Overcoming the world of Sin

•Romans 6:15 15•What then? shall we sin, because we are not under the law, but under grace? God forbid.

Elements of sin

Sin - (Hamartano)

to err,

to miss the mark,

wonder from the path,

torn apart from God

Iniquity (Avon, Aven)

Distortion

Perversion

It is an evil that is present within

Absence of moral law

Transgression (Hrw Pasha)

To rebel

To revolt

act in disregard of laws

to go past as to turn aside from

Psalm 52:1-3

• 2 Wash me throughly from mine iniquity, and cleanse me from my sin.

• 3For I acknowledge my transgressions: and my sin [is] ever before me.

• 4Against thee, thee only, have I sinned, and done [this] evil in thy sight: that thou mightest be justified when thou speakest, [and] be clear when thou judgest.

Sin challenges three areas

Truth is challenged

- Genesis 3:4“You will not certainly die,” the serpent said to the woman.

•Who you are is challenged

- Genesis 3:5“For God knows that when you eat from it your eyes will be opened, and you will be like God, knowing good and evil.”

Continued…..

•What is right for you is challenged

- Genesis 3:6 When the woman saw that the fruit of the tree was good for food and pleasing to the eye, and also desirable for gaining wisdom, she took some and ate it. She also gave some to her husband, who was with her, and he ate it.

Psalms 32:1-5• 1 Blessed is the one whose transgressions are forgiven,

 whose sins are covered.

• 2 Blessed is the one whose sin the LORD does not count against them and in whose spirit is no deceit.

• 3 When I kept silent, my bones wasted away through my groaning all day long. 4 For day and night your hand was heavy on me; my strength was sapped as in the heat of summer.

• 5 Then I acknowledged my sin to you and did not cover up my iniquity. I said, “I will confess my transgressions to the LORD.” And you forgave the guilt of my sin.

Dealing with Sin

1. Acknowledge

2.Take responsibility

3. Confess

4.Repent

5.Get up and move on
