I am a freelance karate instructor and certified personal fitness trainer. I have been actively training inthe martial arts since #une <th, 3<<3, when I enrolled at the >ippon $okusai $arate !enter ?>$$!0location in ake !ity, "!. I took over management of this location in #anuary 3<<5, and obtained therank of shodan ?first degree black belt0 in +ctober of that year. >$$! is affiliated with #apanInternational $arate !enter ?#I$!0. #I$! was founded by the late @irano $iyohisa*soke.

In late -pril 3<<6, I officially split from >$$! because of irreconcilable differences with theinstructors, and founded #ohnston $arate. "ince then, I have had the opportunity to train in variousother styles. 2esides having continued teaching karate over the years, I have trained at various other#I$! dojo as time allows. I trained once or twice a week at a boxing gym in "umter, "!, for about 4years. I also trained once a week for a year and a half in 2raCilian #iujitsu, in !onway, "!.
