100 %With Alsan® flashing®, SOPREMA offers an innovative and comprehensive response that guarantees extremely reliable waterproofing and eliminates the need for cap protections: no more weather strips, tuck-ins, caps...!

The 1st and only liquid waterproofing system for upstands with a European Technical Approval anda CSTB Technical Approval. The Alsan® flashing® liquid waterproofing process for

treating upstands has been awarded CE marking, via the European Technical Approval (ETA-08/0114) issued by

the EOTA (European Organisation for Technical Approvals).10 years of use and its 100 % reliability have truly set the seal

at European level on the reputation of the Alsan® Flashing® process, which offers roof-terrace waterproofing specialists a series of advantages.

POSSIBLE SUBSTRATESThe type of shapes are those usually acceptable

for upstands waterproofing (see DTU series 43), such as masonry, metal upstands, timber as well as insulation materials such as fibre-reinforced perlite, cellular glass…Other substrates: please, consult SOPREMA.

The substrate must be in good condition, clean, dry, free of any greasy substances.

PRESEnTATIOnAlsan® flashing® is a single-component bituminous

polyurethane resin which is applied in situ without a primer, using a roller or wide paintbrush.

InTEnDED USEThe Alsan® flashing® process can be used on all upstands

in new or renovation works. It is used in conjunction with SOPREMA waterproofing consisting of an SBS elastomer bitumen or a sandded or slate-coated APP main surface. Designed for terraces accessible to pedestrians or vehicles as well as non-trafficable and technical roofs. Its variant Alsan® flashing® garden is suitable for waterproofing items in direct contact with soil (green roofs, garden roofs, flower boxes, …) .

no more cap protections on roofs. The outstanding reliability of the Alsan® flashing® process means it can be used without any rainwater runoff device. This exclusive advantage means there is no need for:- masonry features such as drip caps or tuck-ins,- metal flashing strips,- but it also leads to genuine savings of up to 50 % compared to traditional upstands with a flashing strip, more in the case of masonry upstands (about 75 % when the drip cap is not glued).

advantagesFIRE SAFE TOOMost fires start on upstands: upstands

under roof overhangs, at the bottom of shingles, underneath inflammable cupolas, on timber supports or panels made of wood derivatives, upstands on combustible insulation, upstands underneath an air intake, underneath glazing…Alsan® flashing® is a flame-free process that enables upstands to be treated safely anywhere where they constitute fire traps.

OUTSTAnDInG RELIABILITY- Perfect, permanent bonding to the substrate. Adherence

tests carried out in situ by SOPREMA’s Liquid Waterproofing department and laboratory on new and old flashing® sites were done in compliance with standard NF P 98-282. The results showed adherence performances considerably higher than with traditional processes: from 3 to 4 MPa compared to 0.5 MPa for welded membranes.- Liquid, it adapts to any type of shape.- Its elongation capacity of 500 % allows it to absorb movements without cracking.- Applied in one shot, Alsan® flashing® eliminates the lap joints required with sheet products.- The physico-chemical properties of Alsan® flashing® do not alter over time. It is UV-resistant and remains flexible even at low temperatures. No more delamination as with aluminium protection systems or unattractive wrinkling.

Alsan® flashing® can be left visible as it is UV-resistant. However, when the roof is visible, slate chippings - same colour

as the rest of the surface can be added to a layer of freshly applied Alsan® flashing®.The fact that there are no joints also guarantees a regular, homogeneous and attractive effect. The elimination of tuck-ins, drip caps or flashing strips also allows for greater architectural freedom : curves, pure lines. The result is distinctly better roof-terrace aesthetics. An aluminium finish can be obtained by applying a coat of Cural or a coloured finish in the shades in the Curfer range.

SIMPLE, SPACE-SAVInG TOOLS

A SInGLE COMPOnEnT PRODUCTAlsan® flashing® comes ready to use and requires no mixing on

the worksite.

nO PRIMERAfter laying the bituminous waterproofing product on the main surface (a membrane that meets a Technical Approval or SOPREMA installation specifications), the upstand is treated with Alsan® flashing® without a primer.REMInDER: Alsan® flashing® must not be applied on top of existing primer.

A SIMPLE PROCESSThe Alsan® flashing® process consists of only 3 simple stages:• Preparation of the substrate (see preparatory work opposite)• Laying of the Renfort RS®, sticking it in the corners on top of an Alsan® flashing® coat (500 g/m2)• Two coats of Alsan® flashing® (Alsan® flashing® garden) (900 g/m2 + 700 g/m2).

RAPID POLYMERISATIOnAfter polymerisation under the effect of the ambient humidity, Alsan® flashing® forms a truly waterproof coating. Polymerisation generally takes between 2 and 5 hours per coat depending on the weather conditions.

PRACTICAL RAIn PROTECTIOnThe structure is protected against the rain as soon as the Renfort RS® is laid and impregnated.

preparatory workAlthough no primer is needed, the substrate

must still be clean and dry, and haveundergone some preparatory work:

- remove dust from wooden substrates,- remove grease from metal upstands,- trim any aluminium or stainless steel

reinforcements,- sweep away any loose slate chippings using

a metal brush for membranes with mineral protection,

- sweep away any loose sand for sanded membranes,

- remove any thermofusible film.

primerCSTB Technical ApprovalAdopted by most waterproofing contractors across Europe as soon as it was launched, Alsan® flashing has already been used to treat more than 1 million linear metres of upstands. The unique performances offered by Alsan® flashing® have been recognised by the CSTB since 2005, as attested by the élastophène flam/sopralène flam TechnicalApproval, and the Two-layer soprafix Technical Approval awarded in 2006. Other applications are detailed in a set of Technical Guidelines approved by the SOCOTEC technical center.

we recommend applying it in strips at most 5 m long in order to be able to position it on a fresh coat of product.

RECOMMEnDATIOnAlsan® flashing should be used

at temperatures between +5°C and +35°C. Veils and cans should be held in a cool, dry place before use.

TIPFor a perfect finish line on the
