6. Attachments-Do not use attachments not recommended by

the TV manufacturer as they may cause hazards.7. Water and Moisture-Do not use this TV near water-for

8. Accessories-Do not place this TV on an unstable cart,

stand, tripod, bracket, or table. The TV may fall, causing

9. Ventilation-Slots and openings in the cabinet and the back

10. Power Sources-This TV should be operated only from the

type of power source indicated on the marking label. If you

are not sure of the type of power supply to your home,

consult your appliance dealer or local power company. ForTVs intended to operate from battery power, or other

sources, refer to the operating instructions.

larized alternating-current line plug(a plug having one blade

wider than the other). This plug will fit into the power outlet

only one way. This is a safety feature. If you are unable toinsert the plug fully into the outlet, try reversing the plug. If

the plug should still fail to fit, contact you electrician to

replace your obsolete outlet. Do not defeat the safetypurpose of the polarized plug.

12. Power-Cord Protection-Power-supply cords should berouted so that they are not likely to be walked on or pinched

by items placed upon or against them, paying particular

attention to cords at plugs, convenience receptacles, andthe point where they exit from the appliance.

13. Outdoor Antenna grounding-If an outside antenna or cablesystem is connected to the TV, be sure the antenna or cable

system is grounded so as to provide some protection

against voltage surges and built-up static charges. Section

1984, provides information with respect to proper ground-

ing of the mast and supporting structure, grounding of thelead-in wire to an antenna discharge unit, size of grounding

conductors, location of antenna-discharge unit, connection

to grounding electrodes, and requirements for the ground-

ing electrode. (Fig. A)

14. Lightning-For added protection for this TV receiver during

a lightning storm, or when it is left unattended and unused

for long periods of time, unplug it from the wall outlet anddisconnect the antenna or cable system. This will prevent

damage to the TV due to lightning and power-line surges.

15. Power Lines-An outside antenna system should not be

located in the vicinity of overhead power lines or otherelectric light of power circuits, or where it can fall into such

power lines or circuits. When installing an outside antennasystem, extreme care should be taken to keep from touch-

ing such power lines or circuits as contact with them mightbe fatal.

16. Overloading-Do not overload wall outlets and extensioncords as this can result in a risk of fire or electric shock.

17. Object and Liquid Entry-Never push objects of any kind into

this TV through opening as they may touch dangerousvoltage points or shortout parts that could result in a fire or

electric shock. Never spill liquid of any kind on the TV.

18. Servicing-Do not attempt to service this TV yourself as

opening or removing covers may expose you to dangerous

voltage or other hazards. Refer all servicing to qualifiedservice personnel.

PRECAUTIONS

For safe operation and satisfactory performance ofyour unit, keep the following in mind when select-ing a place for its installation:

• Shield it from direct sunlight and keep it awayfrom sources of intense heat.

• Avoid dusty or humid places.• Avoid places with insufficient ventilation for

proper heat dissipation. Do not block the ven-tilation holes at the top and bottom of the unit.Do not place the unit on a carpet because thiswill block the ventilation holes.

• Install unit in a horizontal position.• Avoid locations subject to strong vibration.• Do not place the unit near strong magnetic

fields.

• Do not move the unit from a cold to a hot placeor vice versa.

• Do not handle the power cord with wet hands.• Do not pull out the power cord when discon-

necting it from an AC wall outlet. Grasp it bythe plug.

• If, by accident, water is spilled on your unit,unplug the power cord immediately and takethe unit to an authorized video service center

for servicing.• Do not put your fingers or objects into the VCR

cassette holder.

• Do not place anything directly on top of theunit.

Moisture condensation may occur inside the unit

when it is moved from a cold place to a warmplace, or after heating a cold room or under con-

ditions of high humidity. If playing a tape with aTVCR which has moisture, it will damage the tapeand TVCR. Therefore when the condensation oc-

curs inside the unit turn the POWER button on

and allow at least 2 hours for the unit to dry out.

1 Remote Sensor- Receives the infrared control

signals from the handheld remote control unit.2 RECORD indicator- Lights when in the Re-

REMOTE CONTROL OPERATION

You can operate most of functions from the Re-mote Control (included). The buttons on the Re-mote Control have the same functions as the

corresponding buttons on the unit.

Slide the battery compartment cover by pressingthe cover on the remote unit in the direction of thearrow.

HInsert 2 "AA" penlight batteries into the batterycompartment in the direction as indicated by thepolarity (+/-) markings.

ANTENNA CONNECTIONS

The UHF/VHF Rod Antenna(supplied) is detachable. Push the stem of the antenna into the hole whichis located on the upper back cabinet of the unit.Connect the Rod antenna or VHF/UHF Combination Antenna to ANT.IN terminal of TV as shown in

drawing.For the best reception, extend the rod antenna and adjust its length and position. (Avoid handling thetop section when making adjustments).

With this connection you can record and view anychannel including scrambled channels. Howeverchannel selection must be made at the cable com-

pany converter box. This means that channelscannot be changed using the TVCR Remote Con-

trol. Unattended recording is limited to one chan-nel at a time.

TO RECORD AND VIEW A SCRAMBLED/UN-SCRAMBLED CHANNEL

1. Set the TVCR channel selector to the outputchannel of the Cable Converter Box. (Ex. CH3)

2. Select the channel to be recorded or viewed onthe Cable Converter Box.

Note to CATV system installer

This reminder is provided to call the CATV system installer's attention to Article 820-40 of the NEC

that provides guidelines for proper grounding and, in particular, specifies that the cable ground shall

be connected to the grounding system of the building as close to the point of cable entry as practical.

When handling video tapes, take the following

precautions• Avoid moisture, which can condense on the

tape if it is moved from a cold place to a warmplace. Playing a tape that has moisture in it willdamage the tape and your TVCR. Before usinga tape with these conditions, wait until the tapehas warmed to room temperature and themoisture has evaporated.

• Avoid extreme heat, high humidity and mag-netic fields.

• Do not tamper with the cassette mechanism.• Do not touch the tape with your fingers.

ERASE PREVENTION

You may prevent accidental erasing of a tape bybreaking off the tab on the back edge of the cas-

sette. If you decide to record on the tape again,cover the hole with plastic tape.

Insert the cassette into the TVCR as shown.

Automatic timer recording lets you set the TVCRto start and end a recording while you are away.Your TVCR has eight program timers. You can set

eight events to record on a specific day, daily orweekly within 1 year period. You can set eachprogram to record on a different channel and at adifferent recording speed.

AUTOMATIC TIMER RECORDINGHINTS

• If there a power failure or the TVCR is un-plugged for more than a few seconds, the clock

setting and all timer settings are lost. At thistime, display will automatically return to clockset mode when you choose program set mode.

• If two timer programs overlap, the one thatstarts first has priority. When the first programends, the TVCR switches to record the remain-

der of the second program.• Make sure the channel you want to record is

properly tuned in advance.• The erase-prevention tab on the cassette must

be in place (or you must put tape over the hole).Note: A cassette without erase-prevention tabwill be ejected when in Timer Rec mode.

• It is not necessary to press REC button for timer

recording.• Recording begins automatically at the set Start

time.

• If you are recording using the Automatic TimerProgrammed, you may not operate the unitmanually, but, you may still stop the recordingby pressing STOP button on the TVCR.Note: STOP button on the remote control unitwill not function in this mode.

• If the tape runs out before the end time, theTVCR will switch to the stop mode im-mediately, and tape will be ejected.

• If a tape is not loaded or the erase-protectiontab is removed, the TIMER REC indicator

flashes and automatic timer recording cannotoccur. Press POWER button to stop the flash-ing. Then, load a tape that allows recording.

CHECKING TIMER PROGRAMS

To check a program that is to be recorded using theAutomatic Timer Program when the TVCR is inthe Timer Record mode, turn on the TVCR. PressPOWER button to exit the Timer Record mode.

Then follow instructions in steps 2 to 5 on page 22.Information which was set for program will now

appear.

AUTO REWIND-EJECT

When the end of a tape is reached during record-ing, playback, or fast-forward, the tape will auto-matically rewind to the beginning (or to the 0000counter reading if the memory function is acti-vated), eject, and the TVCR turns off.Notes:

• This function is operative when Auto Repeat isset to the off position.

• The tape will not auto-rewind during timerrecording or One Touch Recording.

• When tape is rewound to the preset memoryposition, tape will not be ejected and TVCR willnot shut off.

VISUAL SEARCH

You may view the video program at a high speedin either a forward or reverse direction. When in

the play mode, press F.FWD button to view thetape at a fast speed in the forward direction. Toview the tape at a fast speed in the reverse direc-tion, press REW button. The sound will be muted.This feature is useful in finding or skipping over

a particular section of a tape. When you wish toview the tape in normal speed, simply press PLAYbutton.

Notes:

• The picture will not be as good as in normalplayback (SP or LP) during Visual Search.

• When video searching a pre-recorded tape, itmay cause noise bars (white lines) to movevertically. Also, the picture color fluctuates onand off. This is not an indication of trouble.

• You will get best results when playing backtapes that were recorded in the SLP mode.

SUPER HIGH SPEED SEARCH(LP/SLP MODE)

For Visual Search in super high speed, press eitherEFWD or REW button while the unit is in the playmode. Then press again. The unit will now searchin super high speed. Press once more either F.FWDor REW button back to high speed search. For

normal playback, simply press PLAY button.Note: Tape recorded in the LP, SLP mode willdisplay a noise bar on the TV screen and thepicture may revert to Black and White. This isnormal.

STILL FRAME DURING PLAYBACK

If you press PAUSE/STILL button during play-back, the picture will "freeze" on the TV screen.Only recorded tape in SLP mode shows clear pic-ture. You may use this feature to study details of aparticular screen. Press PLAY button again to con-

tinue playback.Note: The TVCR will automatically switch to the

Stop mode, if it is left in the Pause mode for morethan five minutes.

NOISE CANCELLING

If you use the PAUSE button to freeze the pictureduring playback with tape recorded in SLP mode,

usually there will be video "noise bars" on the TVscreen. This is normal, however, this TVCR has a

special feature that allows you to reposition or

reduce the lines. Each time you pressPAUSE/STILL button the lines will change posi-tion on the "IV screen.

This enables you to see the picture in its entiretywithout distracting noise lines.If the tape was originally recorded in SP or LPmode, the still picture will, in addition to the"noise bars", be black and white.THIS IS NOT A FAULT OF THE MACHINEBUT MERELY A BY-PRODUCT OF THE TECH-NOLOGY INVOLVED IN PRODUCING A

TVCR WITH LONG-PLAY MODE.

TRACKING ADJUSTMENT

When playing pre-recorded tapes or tapes re-corded on units other than your own, noise lines(black and white streaks) may appear on the play-

back picture. If this occurs, adjust the TRACKINGcontrol by pressing CHANNEL "A" or "V" buttonuntil the streaks disappear.To set to center position, press both CHANNEL"A" and '_r" buttons at the same time. (This func-

tion is operative only by buttons on Main Unit.)

MAINTENANCE

• Wipe the front panel and otherexterior surfacesof the unit with a soft cloth immersed in luke-

warm water and wrung dry.• Never use a solvent or alcohol. Do not spray

insecticide liquid near the unit. Such chemicals

may cause damage and discoloration to theexposed surfaces.

Should your unit become inoperative, do nottry to correct the problem by yourself. There are

no user-serviceable parts inside. Switch power

off, unplug the power cord, and take the unit to

your nearest Sears Service Center for servicing.

Picture playback may become blurred or inter-rupted while the TV program received is clear.This does not mean that the recorded programhas been erased. However, this problem maybe caused by dirt.Being accumulated on the videoheads afterlong periods of use, or usage of rental or oldtapes. In this case, head cleaning requireshighly technical attention, therefore consult thenearest Sears Service Center. Clean heads onlywhen problems occur.
