    • Do these children live in houses like yours?
    • Do they have a doctor like yours?
    • What will they be when they grow up?
    • Do their parents have as much money as yours?
  • 8. Why is this important? Lets look again at the picture - What do you see thats the same as in your life?

    • Do you play football, or know someone who likes playing football?
    • Do you go to school?
    • Do you wear clothes?
    • Do you want to go to the doctor if youre ill?
    • Arent we all human?
    Oxfam thinks that is enough reason to do something about poverty and inequality!
  • 11. These are called the Millennium Development Goals In the year 2000, world leaders made some big promises.

    • Reduce Poverty by .2015
    • Target : halve people who live on less than $1 a day
    • Good progress in Asia, less progress in Latin America and Africa
    • Target : halve people in extreme hunger
    • % children underweight down by fifth. Progress best in Asia, least in Africa

  • 23. Clean-up the Environment by 2015 Target: halve people without safe water and sanitation
    • Good progress on water, but 5,000 children still die every day from dirty water
    • Poor progress on sanitation. Number of people in Africa without sanitation is going up

    • The bad news is that
    we are half-way to 2015 and our world is not half-way towards reaching all the targets The good news is that if rich countries:
    • give more aid,
    • make trade fair and
    • cancel poor countries debts,
    it might still be possible to achieve the Millennium Development Goals by 2015.

    • keep the pressure on world leaders to keep their promises
    • support Oxfam
    • use less, recycle more
    • buy Fairtrade
