• Complete FAFSA (www.fafsa.ed.gov) as soon you can after October 1st of your student’s senior year

• OU FAFSA Workshop is October 23rd, 2018 6:30pm at OHS

• Look for local scholarship opportunities at the start of second semester of senior year

JUNIOR Year Essentials

Fall

• Start researching colleges, attend college fairs, visit colleges

• Take advantage of opportunities at OHS such as visits from college representatives

• Study for the SAT. Consider the PSAT test for practice

• PSAT- Saturday, October 13, 2018 (Qualifying exam for the National Merit Scholarship). Limited space available. Cost $20, First come; first on the list! Sign up by September 11th in the counseling office

• ALL Juniors required to take State Assessments/College Admission Test

• Narrow your college list and start checking their website to arrange for campus visits and tours.

• Retake SAT, if necessary or sign up for an ACT exams in the Fall

• Take AP / IB exams in May if appropriate

• Visit a college campus…or three!

College Entrance Exams

The SAT

• The SAT is part of the MME State Wide Testing, which all juniors are required to take in the Spring and is free of charge. The writing component is required!

• The SAT is one of the widely accepted college entrance exams.

• The multiple-choice tests cover four skill areas: Reading, Writing and Language, Math, and the SAT Essay

• Practice tests are available for students at https://sat.collegeboard.org/practice/ and at www.khanacademy.com

Other TESTS

• PSAT - This is the practice test for the SAT and the qualifying test for the National Merit Scholarship. The PSAT will be administered at Oxford High School Saturday, October 13, 2018. Cost is $20.

• AP (Advanced Placement) tests – Tests specifically related to AP courses taken and administered in May 2019. An opportunity to earn college credit or advanced standing at a college

• IB (International Baccalaureate) tests - Tests specifically related to IB courses taken and administered in the Spring. An opportunity to earn college credit or advanced standing at a college

• ACT – Additional College Admission Examination. Student registration at: www.actstudent.org (Dates available at Oxford High School in October 27th, December 8th, February 9th, and June 8th)
