A LION CAME ACROSS A HARE, WHO WAS
FAST ASLEEP. HE WAS JUST IN THE ACT OF
SEIZING HER, WHEN A FINE YOUNG HART
TROTTED BY, AND HE LEFT THE HARE TO
FOLLOW HIM. THE HARE, SCARED BY THE
NOISE, AWOKE AND SCUDDED AWAY.
THE LION WAS UNABLE AFTER A LONG
CHASE TO CATCH THE HART, AND RETURNED
TO FEED UPON THE HARE. ON FINDING THAT
THE HARE ALSO HAD RUN OFF, HE SAID,
‘’I AM RIGHTLY SERVED, FOR HAVING LET GO
OF THE FOOD THAT I HAD IN MY HAND FOR
THE CHANCE OF OBTAINING MORE.”

Wedding Etiquette and Duties
Etiquette dictates that the Top Table has a set “Seating Format”, as illustrated
below. However, the remaining relatives and friends are normally seated as
you desire, with close relatives nearer the top table.
Front of the Top Table
Traditionally, prior to dessert service, the toastmaster will announce the cutting
of the cake, which will be served with the toast drink ready for the speeches.
However, couples these days often choose to change the order of proceedings.
The toasts will normally take place in the following order:-
1. The Bride & Groom, this toast is usually proposed by the father of the Bride,
close relative or friend of the family.
2. The bridesmaids, proposed by the Bridegroom, following his response to
the first toast.
3. Response to the Bridegroom on behalf of the bridesmaids, this will be
proposed by the best man, whilst congratulating the “happy couple”,
he may also read good wishes from absent family and friends.

Wedding Etiquette and Duties
The Bride & Groom - The Bride selects the type of service, decides on her
dress and the bridesmaids’ attire, whilst the Bridegroom selects his best man
and ushers. He also purchases the ring and pays the church fees. He may also
buy presents for the bridesmaids, best man and ushers as a gesture for their
help. He buys flowers for his Bride, for the Bride’s mother, the bridesmaids,
and buttonholes for himself and the best man. He arranges and pays for
transport for the best man and himself to travel to the ceremony and for the
Bride and himself to travel to the reception.
The Best Man - The best man is the Bridegroom’s right hand man, who keeps
the ring and ensures the Bridegroom gets to the church on time. He pays the
church fees on behalf of the Groom. He checks the transportation for all the
guests to the reception and that any travel arrangements for the honeymoon
are in order. At the reception, it is the best man’s honour to read any
congratulatory messages and of course, make a speech.
The Chief Bridesmaid - The chief bridesmaid assists the Bride to dress, holds
the bouquet during the ceremony and organises the other bridesmaids.
The Bride’s Father - The father gives the Bride away and receives guests at
the reception. Traditionally he pays for the wedding dress, bridesmaids’
dresses, cars, photographs, church and reception flowers, invitations and
press announcements (if any). In this day and age, often the costs are split
with the Groom’s family.
The Bride’s Mother - The Bride’s mother is traditionally in charge of all the
proceedings. She decides on the guest list, together with the Bridegroom’s
mother and the venue for the reception. She handles any catering arrangements
and ensures the wedding cake is ready. After the wedding ceremony, the
Bride’s mother and father, together with the Bride and Bridegroom and his
parents, greet the guests at the wedding reception.

History of Eynsham Hall
On this site for over 300 years has stood one of Oxfordshire’s great country
homes. Built by Willoughby Lacey in the early 1700’s Eynsham Manor was a
typical Georgian house. In 1778 he sold the estate to Robert Langford. On
Langford’s death in 1785 ownership passed to James Duberley. Duberley
remained at the hall until 1799 when the Reverend John Robinson moved in.
In 1805 he sold the estate to Sir Thomas Parker. Sir Thomas’s father purchased
Eynsham Hall to serve as the Dower house for Shirburn Castle. On the death
of Sir Thomas’s mother the estate was sold to Sir Thomas Bazley MP.
1866 saw the arrival of the present freeholder’s great grandfather, James
Mason. After his death in 1903, his son, James Francis Mason and his wife
Lady Evelyn took over the hall and in 1904 the Georgian house was demolished.
Sir Ernest George was appointed as the architect and supervised the
construction to his design of the present day Jacobean style mansion
completed in 1908.
With the onset of WW1 the house was used to assist in the war effort. Eynsham
Hall has also been used by Barclays Bank, the Air Ministry and as a maternity
hospital. For 35 years it was a district police training centre.
In 1981 the hall became a conference and training centre and in April 2005 the
lease was acquired by the Cathedral Group.
Since then substantial work to the grounds, gardens and the main hall have
taken place making this an idyllic setting, whatever the occasion.

Floristry
Flowers have always been part of the beauty and
romance of weddings, right back to Roman times
when couples wore garlands of flowers to symbolise
new life and fertility. The carrying of flowers by the
Bride at weddings has its roots in ancient times when
it was believed that strong smelling herbs and spices
would ward off and drive away evil spirits, bad luck
and ill health.
Flowers create a lasting impression on your wedding
day. The visual effect achieved by carefully chosen
flowers will provide a uniquely tailored experience to
delight your guests.
