VCCDC Homeownership Fair On a sunny Saturday, June 6, 2015
“Ventura County Community Develop-
ment Corporation held their 3rd anual
Homeownership Fair. The event was
attended by many families that had the
opportunity to obtain information
from
lenders,
real-
estate
compa-
nies,
insurance
compa-
nies, investors, Public Housing rep-
resentatives, and other vendors.
Buying a home for the first time is a
major event and a very happy expe-
rience! At the same time, buying a
house can be tedious. For this and
many other reasons these families
attended this free and informative
event. Families are then able to
make well-informed decisions and
know what steps to follow for buy-
ing your home. VCCDC invited
some special friends as guest
speakers, such as State Senator,
Hannah Beth-Jackson, Ventura Coun-
ty Supervisor, John Zaragoza, Author,
Amada Perez, and Ms. Yolanda Ful-
ton, buyer's firs time homebuyer and
graduate of Oxnard Housing Authori-
ty’s Family Self-Sufficiency Program.

In addition, El Centrito is providing
Nutrition classes. Remember that
to have the necessary energy for
the Zumba classes, you must eat
meals that give you a lot of energy.
If you would also like to lose some
weight, you should eat healthy, for
example, more fruits and vegeta-
bles. Come to the nutrition classes
to be informed of some nutritious
dishes that can be prepared at
home. These classes are currently
being held every Thursday at 4:30
pm at the same location.
Strengthening family ties is crucial
to your well-being and that of your
family. El Centrito is also offering
classes for parents and their chil-
dren, “Mama y Yo.” These classes
educate mothers on the teaching
of your child through games, sup-
port your child as his first teacher,
and learn about child development.
The class of "Mama
y Yo” is for chil-
dren from 0-3
years old.
Who’s ready to dance, burn some
fat, and improve your physical
condition?! El Centrito teamed up
with the Colonia Village Tenant
Association and Oxnard Housing
Authority’s Family Self-Sufficiency
Program to provide Zumba Clas-
ses to the community. The classes
are held every Friday at 5:30 pm at
the Colonia Senior Center, 126B
Amelia Court. Come and enjoy
good music and dance to exercise
all your muscles and improve your
physical condition and appearance.

Recent graduate from FSS Program is Guest Speaker at VCCDC’s 3rd Annual Homeownership Fair On June 6, 2015, Yolanda Fulton, a former Section 8 FSS Program participant, was invited
by Ventura County Community Development Corporation (VCCDC) to their 3rd Annual
Homeownership Fair as a guest speaker. As a first-time homebuyer, she told her very
inspiring story to those in attendance. Yolanda’s journey began from being dependent on
public assistance and raising her 4 boys as a single mother. She then obtained a Section 8
voucher, secured housing for her family, and joined the FSS Program afterwards.
Under the FSS Program, Yolanda completed ambitious goals that she set for herself which
included obtaining her B.A. degree and a Masters degree in Psychology. After completing
her goals, she obtained a high-paying full-time job, graduated from the FSS Program in
November, 2014, and received an FSS escrow check for $21,162. With assistance from
VCCDC, she received homeownership counseling and additional down payment assis-
tance, and was pre-approved for a home loan through their lending services. She eventu-
ally purchased a home and became free of Section 8 assistance. Yolanda is not stopping
there, she is now currently pursuing her P.H.D! (Yolanda Fulton, FSS Program graduate)
