It is presently owned and used by the church next door. It has been very well maintained.

● Luna School #32, Sec 30 T23 R12, It has been maintained very well and is a private residense on hwy. AA about .5 mile off the end of the pavement. This one one of the few two story school buildings in Ozark County. It is in a beautiful setting down on Caney Creek.

It is just north of the intersection on the right on private property. Several years ago the building was set on a new concrete foundation to be used as a dairy barn but was never used. The frame is in good condition but needs work on the exterior.

Shiloh School #48, Sec. 6 T. 22, R 15, located at the north end of Bull Shoals Lake, south of Thornfield on Hwy 95 to Hwy D, east end, south on Hwy D, approximately 8 miles (end of pavement) to CR 873, left on CR 873 2 miles. It has been used as a church and is in original condition on the outside with a few changes on the interior. Due to its small size and easy access, this school would be ideal to move and/or restore.

● Silver Shade School #4, Sec.8 T24 R12, From Gainesville take hwy. 181 north to Dora. At Dora take hwy .CC west and south to CR 178, west on CR 178 1 mile to pavement(hwy. AC), continue north on hwy. AC 1 mile, it is on the west side. It is used as a private residence. A short time before the country schools were consolidated it had another room added to the east end making it a two room school.

● Souder School #7, Sec. 2 T24 R14, North of Gainesville on hwy. 5 approximately 14 miles to hwy. 95 North. East on hwy. 95 North 5 miles to CR 138. North on CR 138 about .1 mile on the east side. This is the largest of the country schools still standing. It is in fair to good condition but needs immediate repairs, roof and windows. The original well pump still works. The building is for sale.

● Udal School #80, Sec.35 T22 R12, Located in the little community of Udal east of Norfork Lake on hwy. O. From Gainesville take hwy. 160 east a little over 9 miles, .5 mile past the bridge, to CR 551(Smoke Road). South on CR 551 4.5 miles to hwy. O, Mount Pleasant #81 is on the north/east corner of intersection. Take hwy. O 1.8 miles west on the north side. It is used as a community church, very original and is in very good condition.

● Valley Star School #58, Sec. 26 T23 R11, This beautiful building is located on the Cloud Nine Guest Ranch approximately 18 miles east of Gainesville on hwy. 160 on the north side. It was moved from the original location on the ranch to the headquarters, about 3 miles north of the highway, and completely restored to original condition inside and out. The ranch is private property.

This survey was made of the rural schools in Ozark County, Missouri, conducted in 2011. Where some structures were still on the sites

and owners gave permission, we have photos of the schools. When the schools were consolidated, they were sold. Some are homes,

churches or community buildings if they are habitable. Many are on private property. When you are searching for school locations,

please remember to respect private property and ownership. Ask for permission before entering private property.
