New Youth Program: Read Down Your FinesNew Youth Program: Read Down Your FinesNew Youth Program: Read Down Your Fines

We have instituted a Read Down Your Fines program for youth through the

age of 17. The young person would have $1 of the fine waived for each ½ hour

of reading that he or she does in the Library.

Reading must be done in the library but the child may read independently, be

read to, or read to someone else. This shows a young person that they must "pay"

for not returning items by the due date but allows them to do it without money.

The young person learns a sense of responsibility and increases his or her

reading.

To take advantage of this program visit the circulation desk at either building and

ask for a timer. When 30 minutes have passed, please bring the timer and your

library card to the desk and $1 will be waived from the child’s account.

The path forward to building good

readers 1. Select and check out 10

children’s books

2. Inform the library staff that

this is a 1000 Book Kid. The

10 books will be placed in a

special bag with the receipt

listing the books and due date.

3.When you return your books,

circle the next number on your

child’s card.

Then...start the process over

again!

*When you have circled 100

numbers on the card, your child

will be awarded the special

sweatshirt courtesy of the Malta

Sunrise Rotary.
