PALM BAY PRIMARY SCHOOL NEWSLETTER: 13th September 2019 ‘Loving learning, making a difference’ Dear Parents and Carers Welcome back! I do hope you all had an enjoyable summer. Our new term has started incredibly smoothly and it is a pleasure to see all your children back at school. I am especially proud of our new Reception pupils who are settling so quickly into school life. I have enjoyed seeing the children’s enthusiasm for learning this week. Year 3 teachers set up a ‘crime scene’ for their pupils to investigate, while Year 1 visited the forest on a scavenger hunt to find leaves and twigs for their woodland crowns. Today, Year 2 are going beach-combing on Palm Bay beach to launch their topic. Next week 2 year groups are out on trips – Year 4 to Reculver and Year 6 to Wildwood and the Bug Man will be visiting Year 5. Thank you for the positive feedback we have received about having both gates open in the mornings. We took this decision following lots of feedback from families over the past couple of years about the bottle neck and crowd caused at the small gate, which was quite overwhelming for our little ones. The start of day certainly feels much calmer now and having both gates open means the children can get into class more quickly too. Another change you may have noticed, is that we have changed the entrance to Breakfast Club to the doors at the back of the hall instead of the front. This is so that parents using the drop-off zone drive all the way to the end please, to avoid congestion and keep the children safe. May I remind you not to park on the drop-off zone and to move on as quickly as possible, again for the children’s safety. It has been lovely to see so many of you attending our ‘Meet the teacher’ sessions. We’ve had a great turn-out, especially in KS1 and we hope the sessions have been helpful and informative for you. We are hoping to be more organised this year in giving families more notice of parent/carer events. Mr Cotton will be sending out a list of Autumn term dates in the next week or so to enable you to plan ahead. Finally, I would like to thank the PTFA for their marvellous work organising last Sunday’s boot fair. The weather was on our side and there was a good turn-out – we raised £1,100 in total. Our final boot fair of the year will be held on October 13th and I hope to see lots of you there. If you are interested in joining our PTFA, their Annual General Meeting (AGM) will be held at school on the evening of 3rd October at 7pm. Can we please advise you that we are a nut and sesame seed free school and ask that pupils refrain from bringing any nut/sesame seed based foods into school. We do have a number of children with severe nut and sesame seed allergies and therefore your cooperation and support is greatly appreciated. Don’t forget ‘Jeans for Genes’ day on Friday (20 th ). Children can come to school in denim on their bottom half (skirt, shorts or trousers) and their normal school uniform top for a suggested donation of 50p. We will be sharing our total between Genes for Jeans and The Child Growth Foundation, a charity very close to our hearts. Wishing you all a great weekend. ‘Loving learning, making a difference’

Dear Parents and Carers

Welcome back! I do hope you all had an enjoyable summer.

Our new term has started incredibly smoothly and it is a pleasure to see all your children back at school. I am

especially proud of our new Reception pupils who are settling so quickly into school life.

I have enjoyed seeing the children’s enthusiasm for learning this week. Year 3 teachers set up a ‘crime scene’ for

their pupils to investigate, while Year 1 visited the forest on a scavenger hunt to find leaves and twigs for their

woodland crowns. Today, Year 2 are going beach-combing on Palm Bay beach to launch their topic. Next week 2 year

groups are out on trips – Year 4 to Reculver and Year 6 to Wildwood and the Bug Man will be visiting Year 5.

Thank you for the positive feedback we have received about having both gates open in the mornings. We took this

decision following lots of feedback from families over the past couple of years about the bottle neck and crowd caused

at the small gate, which was quite overwhelming for our little ones. The start of day certainly feels much calmer now

and having both gates open means the children can get into class more quickly too. Another change you may have

noticed, is that we have changed the entrance to Breakfast Club to the doors at the back of the hall instead of the

front. This is so that parents using the drop-off zone drive all the way to the end please, to avoid congestion and keep

the children safe. May I remind you not to park on the drop-off zone and to move on as quickly as possible, again for

the children’s safety.

It has been lovely to see so many of you attending our ‘Meet the teacher’ sessions. We’ve had a great turn-out,

especially in KS1 and we hope the sessions have been helpful and informative for you. We are hoping to be more

organised this year in giving families more notice of parent/carer events. Mr Cotton will be sending out a list of

Autumn term dates in the next week or so to enable you to plan ahead.

Finally, I would like to thank the PTFA for their marvellous work organising last Sunday’s boot fair. The weather was

on our side and there was a good turn-out – we raised £1,100 in total. Our final boot fair of the year will be held on

October 13th and I hope to see lots of you there. If you are interested in joining our PTFA, their Annual General

Meeting (AGM) will be held at school on the evening of 3rd October at 7pm.

Can we please advise you that we are a nut and sesame seed free school and ask that pupils refrain from bringing any

nut/sesame seed based foods into school. We do have a number of children with severe nut and sesame seed allergies

and therefore your cooperation and support is greatly appreciated.

Don’t forget ‘Jeans for Genes’ day on Friday (20th). Children can come to school in denim on their bottom half (skirt,

shorts or trousers) and their normal school uniform top for a suggested donation of 50p. We will be sharing our total

between Genes for Jeans and The Child Growth Foundation, a charity very close to our hearts.

Wishing you all a great weekend.

This week, year five have launched their 'Best Creator' topic with a bug hunt. They searched

areas in the school grounds where they predicted they would find mini-beasts before

recording their results on a bar graph. They're looking forward to a visit with the 'Bug Man'

next week!
