Hopetoun P-12 College is a Child Safe School
Principal’s Report
A lot has happened over the past five weeks while I have been working in Warracknabeal – and all the activities and changes are for the better. There has been a range of activities led by the SRC including the highly successful and hilarious school social at the footy club rooms. I believe the dress-ups were superb. There has been a successful cup-cake sale day raising funds for the RSPCA and student-led activities continue. There has been a Primary Cluster Day involving a number of schools around the area gathering at Hopetoun P-12 for a day of performances and activities. Parents Club has been active with the Love and Money afternoon and the College Council has been active with a range of projects.
The most visible change is, of course, the front of the school where the new electronic watering system is being installed. The pipes have been installed and the weeds removed. The next step is to rotary hoe the area and add some top soil. This will then be planted out and then we watch the area green-up to become a wonderful frontage for our school. The interior of the school has also had a freshening up with the primary end of the corridor re-ceiving a new coat of paint and the Year 12 room being cleaned and painted. The school is look-ing much, much fresher, and tidier. It is pleasing to note that this emphasis on improving the grounds and buildings will continue as we have plans for more painting and freshening-up over the next school holidays. Congratulations to all involved in this important work. Our students can be justifiably proud of the their contribution to improving the surrounds as can the parents and staff who have worked so hard to continuously improve our surrounds.
Thanks I would like to extend a huge thanks to Ms Penman for the work she did over the five weeks of my absence. She ensured that everything ran smoothly as well as continued to press forward with the improvement projects. It is pleasing to note that upon my return I have found that eve-rything is running smoothly and successfully thanks to the work of Ms Penman and the staff team. Thanks Ms Penman.
Congratulations Jacob I was privileged to attend an award ceremony at Warracknabeal yesterday where one of our outstanding young students was hon-oured. Jacob Holm was awarded “The Students’ Citizenship Award” by the Order of Australia Association. This is a school-based award where schools nominate an outstanding young citi-zen to be recognised by this prestigious association. The award is chosen by the school for a student who demonstrates exceptional qualities of citizenship through highly commendable acts of ser-vice to the community. Jacob certainly fits this criteria. Not only has he been exceptional as school captain and leader of many school-based activities, he has contributed to the community through various sports such as tennis, football and table tennis. Congratulations, Jacob, on receiving this prestigious award.
Great News: China Experience 2019 This is really good news for next year’s Year 9 students. Hopetoun P-12 College has been ac-cepted into the Year 9 Young Leaders to China Program going to China in term three, 2019. This is a fantastic opportunity for our students and hopefully as many as possible will be able to take-up the offer. Details will be sent home to parents providing information and asking for expres-sions of interest later this term.

Parent Survey This survey closes on Sunday night so please add your responses to the online survey. The De-partment of Education collates the data and uses it as one measure of school performance. I strongly urge you all to fill in this survey as it also helps and guides us on areas we are doing well in as well as areas for improvement. The link is available in this newsletter and the School Code is being sent out separately to you.

2018 Parent Opinion Survey
The Parent Opinion Survey is an annual survey offered by the Department of Education and Training that is conducted with all parents at the College. It is designed to assist schools in gain-ing an understanding of parents’ perceptions of school climate, student behaviour and student engagement. Our school will use the survey results to help inform and direct future school plan-ning and improvement strategies. This year to access the Parent Opinion Survey will be via your Compass Parent Portal. All parents are invited to participate in this year’s survey. Responses to the survey are anony-mous. This year the Parent Opinion Survey will be conducted from Monday 23rd July to Sunday 26th August.
The survey will be conducted online, only takes 10-15 minutes to complete, and can be ac-
cessed at any convenient time within the fieldwork period on desktop computers, laptops, tab-
lets or smartphones. The link and access code will be available in the Newsfeed on the right
hand side of your home page. Please make sure your child cannot access the link or code. If
you are unsure how to access the Parent Portal please contact the office.

SRC Report and Acknowledgement
Thank you to the parents, teachers, students and staff members who helped raise funds for
the RSPCA Cupcake Day we held Monday & Tuesday this week.
With your help, we were able to raise $198 for the cause. Wow! What an outstanding
achievement for all of us to enjoy…much like the cupcakes we sold!
On behalf of the SRC Exec, I would like to say a massive thankyou to Faye for your incredible
work in the kitchen, leading up to the day. Without you, the icing would not have gone
on so smoothly.
Thankyou also, to the SRC Reps who helped on the days leading up to sale day, your hard work is much appreciated. You all displayed our school values, which was
great to see.
Thank you again,
Maddy Cashill
