Principal’s Report

Cross country

Congratulations to the students who competed in the Little Desert Cluster cross country in Kaniva on Tuesday. There were many very pleasing performances and some of our students managed to be selected to go to the next level which will be held in Warrnambool.

Moves with Healthy Foods.

Our Prep to Year 3 class will be involved in this visiting marionette show next week. Moves With Healthy Foods focuses on healthy eating, exercise and energy. The show will take place at 9am on Friday 31st May in Room 10.

Shearing

The three-day shearing program concluded on Monday with a visit to the Warracknabeal sale yards and the nearby wool store. While at the saleyards the students had discussions around costs to the local wool producers, the number of different jobs around the sheep sales industry and they had a go at some mock auctioneering. At the wool store the students learnt about wool grading, bale pressing, stencilling and despatch to market. It was an excellent three days overall. Thanks go to the Yarriambiack Shire Council, RIST and to all who gave their time to talk to the students over the course of the three days.

Buddies

Our Buddies program continued this week with the focus on bullying. Bullying is an insidious, nasty way of interacting with others. The students watched a video which clearly explained what bullying is as well as approaches to overcome being bullied. The students concluded the session by preparing buntings to advertise anti-bullying. This will be followed up next week with our “Do It For Dolly Day”.

Are you using Your WITS?

One of the acronyms we use here at Hopetoun P-12 College is WITS. When students are run-ning, playing and working together differences of opinion can quickly arise. In most instances, the issue is easily sorted and the students move on. We use the WITS acronym with the prima-ry students to enable them to manage any issue as it arises. W means walk away. This is one of the best options, I stands for ignore. Just ignore the other’s behaviour. Or perhaps use the third, T, talk it out. Yes, talk to the other student and see if you can reach an agreement. Final-ly, if the student has used W, I, T, the final letter takes over – S. S stands for speak to someone, usually a teacher or adult. Before S, all three other need to be considered. Have you used your WITS?

Coming Up

School photos will be front and centre on Monday followed by “Do It For Dolly Day” on Tues-day. Thursday brings Primary winter sport in Horsham followed by the healthy foods marion-ette show on Friday for Prep to Year 3.

June is just around the corner which means we are rapidly heading into mid-year exams for Years 10 and 11 and some Year 12 students and Year 9s will be off to Geelong for their sailing camp.

Over the past few weeks the P- 3 children have been working really hard to prepare for Mother’s Day. During this time we created books about our Mothers. Those that were lucky enough to receive their book will have had the pleasure of reading what their child

thinks about them, however today we wish to show the entire school community how

special we think our Mothers are.
