KunK – ‘No Way’

Music Video Evaluation

Page 2: P Owerpoint

In our filming, we opted for a stereotypical music video direction. This involved having Kyle as the focal point of the video, singing directly into the camera. This close up shot, we felt, creates power and presence for the lead singer. Below is a shot of Chris Martin the lead singer of Coldplay who uses the close up shot in most of their videos.

Developing & challenging forms and

conventions

With most rock videos there is usually a very up-tempo music, this will be shown in the music videos with quick shots and fast pace scenes. With our song being very upbeat we decided on having most scenes of Kyle running. It worked well with the song as the singing and music has a quick tempo.

We did step away from the obvious when filming the video as we didn’t have the band playing. Mainly because they didn’t show up to the shoot. If they did we would of had them playing their instruments. There wasn’t a specific type of costume we wanted Kyle or Jake to wear as I think that would of only be essential with a band or a different genre. Say like pop or gothic music.

• There is definitely more of a relationship when the lyrics in the chorus are concerned, as Kyle is miming ‘ i know why you’re scared of me’ you will see him running away from someone he seems scared of.

• Other than that there is not much relationships between the lyrics and the visuals as we more concentrated on matching the music and the visuals.

• The music is very upbeat and high tempo and that coincides with our video as there is lots of fast shots of running, and a lot of the time the camera will be handheld.

• Also we matched the visual to the visual to the beat of the music, especially towards the end where Kyle is getting followed and is shouting into the camera.

Media Technologies in the Construction, Research & Planning• When shooting the video we were relatively basic in the equipment that we used. We only used a tripod and a handheld camera. We didn’t really need much technology as we wanted ours to have an amateur look about it, so in pretty much %60 of shots our done handheld.

• When it came to the researching for the video, i personally looked at some videos which i thought would work well for our idea, below is some screen shots of videos i looked at. They were relatively the same style of music, and the whole story was similar in some places.
