Red Kangaroo-->Macropus rufus

Habitat- Dry, inland, central part of Australia; this expansive area includes scrubland, shrub-land, grassland, and desert habitats.

Lest Concerned;lowest risk. Does not qualify for a more at risk category. Widespread and abundant are included in this category.

Physical DescriptionThis species is a very large kangaroo with

short, red-brown fur, fading to pale buff below and on the limbs. It has long, pointed earlobes and a squared-off muzzle. Females are smaller than males and are blue-grey with a brown tinge, pale grey below, although arid zone females are colored more like males. It has two appendages with small claws (much like arms), two muscular legs, which are used for jumping, and a tail, which is often used like a third leg for balance.

Red Kangaroo's legs work much like a rubber band. The male Red Kangaroo can leap in full force approximately 9.14 meters in one leap.

Males grow up to 1.8m (6 feet) tall and weigh up to 187lbs . Females grow up to 1.1m (3.6ft) tall and weigh up to 77lbs . Tails can be up to 1m (3ft) along.`

Life Span9-13 years in the wild and up to 20 years in captivity.

-

The Red Kangaroo is mainly active in the cool of the evening or night, and lives alone or in small groups called 'mobs' Membership of these groups is very

flexible, and males (boomers) are not territorial, fighting only after females

(flyers) which come into heat. The largest males are dominant, and control most of

the matings.

Young kangaroos are born partially developed after 30-40 days. They are born hairless and blind and, immediately after birth, they crawl up the outside of the mother kangaroo to the pouch. Once there they start eating. While in the pouch, for the next 225 days or so, they eat, sleep, and develop the rest of the way. Once they reach full development they can leave the pouch. A young kangaroo that can leave the pouch is called a joey.

The clouded leopard has a body that is about 1m long plus a 90 cm tail. It weighs up to 23 kilograms. Its fur is grey to yellowish-brown and it has black spots and dashes on its head, legs and tail. The marks on its side look similar to clouds, which gives the animal its name.

Clouded leopards are excellent climbers and spend a lot of time in trees. They can hang by front or back legs from branches.

Their ankle joints are so flexible that they can climb down trees head first.

The clouded leopard is now endangered. It has been hunted for food and for its beautiful fur. Its forest habitat is being cut down.

The Clouded Leopard Project is dedicated to the conservation of clouded leopards and the habitat upon which they depend by supporting field research, implementing education initiatives in range countries, and bringing global awareness to clouded leopard conservation issues.

Bat-Eared FoxOtocyon megalotis

CHARACTERISTICS

The Bat-eared fox is named for its large ears. Bat-eared Foxes have tawny fur, with black ears, legs and parts of the face.

They are 55 cm in length, head and body, with ears 13 cm long. It is the only specie in the Genus Otocyon.

The teeth of the Bat-eared Fox are much smaller than teeth of other species. This is an adaptation to their diet, insects make up most of their diet, about 80% of it.

Bat-eared Foxes visit termite hills, follow locust swarms or stay close to herds of zebras or locust in order to feed on the insects.

The Bat-Eared Fox ranges through west and South Africa. Bat-Eared Fox, its endangerment status is, least concern.

Ring-tailed LemurLemur catta

Lemurs spend most of their time in the trees, but this species also

spends considerable time on the ground. Ring tailed lemurs prefer gallery forests andEuphorbia bush habitat, but they also live in many other types of forests in Madagascar.

Ring-tailed lemurs breed very well in captivity it says that there are

about 2000 in captivity and in the

wild is unknown

Ring-tail groups are larger than any other lemur group,

containing up to 24 animals Females are dominant over all Females live in one group their entire lives, while males migrate from group to group.

When ring-tailed troops travel throughout their home range,

they keep their tails raised in

the air, like flags, to keep group

members Together.Constant vocalizations among members also keep the

group together.

Lemur catta is an average sized lemur, with a head and body length of 385 to 455

mm. The tail is longer than the body,

measuring 560 to 624 mm. Its tail is black and white and has ringed pattern

on it . These lemurs have gray or rosy

brown backs with lighter gray or brown

hind legs and white stomachs. Their faces are also white with triangular black markings around their eyes and

The White Handed Gibbon

~The White Handed Gibbons live in the forests of Southeast Asia and Sumatra, from lower Burma south through the Malay Peninsula and east throughout Thailand.

~Gibbons are covered with light-colored to very dark brown ( or black) dense hair on most of their body (except their face, fingers, palms, armpits, and bottoms of their feet). Gibbons are very small and lightweight. They have a small, round head, very long arms (the arms are longer than the legs), and a short, slender body

Hylobates Lar

~Gibbons are social animals that are active during the day (diurnal). Gibbons mate for life; the young, born singly, remain with the family group until they are five or six years old. They groom one another.

STATUS: ENDANGERED

~Life Span: 30-40 years

Habitat Rain-forest in SouthEast Asia,Malaysia,Indonesia,

Cambodia

Adults can grow from 5-6 feet;females tend to be larger.Heavily built with extreme muscle. It color pattern consists of beige;tan or grayish-brown blot Fun Facts

A blood python living in its natural habitat will spend most of its time underwater. While submerged in a river or stream, the blood python waits for its meal to cross its path. Python curtus would then stalk the targeted prey and ambush it. This aggressive characteristic is evident in other behaviors of the blood python.

Communication:When orangutans use gestures to communicate, they use the same basic strategy that people follow in playing the game charades, researchers have found. In charades, people act out a word or phrase without speaking. For example, “football” could be broken down into “foot” and “ball.” Players compete over who can get others to understand them most quickly. To help, players often also give their listeners hints to how closely they’ve come to getting it. They tend to repeat signals that seem to be working while stopping those that are creating confusion.

common name: orangutan

scientific name: Pongo pygmaeus

habitat: Tropical and Subtropical Moist Broadleyaf Forestscontry:borean.

Climate: It’s typically hot and humid throughout the year. Rainfall is pretty high.

ORANGUTANPhysical characteristics: known for their intelligence, long arms and reddish-brown hair. A male orangutan can weigh up to 155 pounds. A female can weigh half that much. The length of an orangutan is 44 to 54 inches. The length of a full grown male's arms can be up to 7 feet, when fully apart. As the male gets older and larger they develop cheek and neck pouches. The orangutan has a brown face and orange fur. The orangutan is compared to people. Orangutans protect themselves by swinging from tree to tree. The orangutan is a mammal.

Activity level:

Orangutans spend in different activities varies depending on the availability of food, social conditions, and reproductive status. On average, orangutans spend approximately 44% of their time resting, 41% feeding, 13% traveling, 2% nest building, and less than 1% engaging in other activities, such as fighting, mating, and socializing. Because orangutans are primarily solitary, their activity patterns may be very individualistic.

States of population: Orangutans face extinction. This is because of loss of habitat, illegal hunting, the notorious pet trade, and Palm Oil.Only about 7,000 are left in their habitat today.

danger of becoming extinct

FactsThe sloth bear lives in

india.Sloth bears carry young

on there back.Sloth bears do not have

any front teeth. No on knows how long the sloth bear can live.

The sloth bears are considered more

dangerous then the tiger in India because of its unknown behavior.

Status in the wild

There are only about 10000 to 15000 sloth bears left in the wild of India.

ConservationThere are a number of websites that try to

help conserve the sloth bear all of them try to stop people from making then dance

because in order to make the sloth bear dance they put it through a lotof pain. The websites also encourage you to not watch or support bear

dancing.

Physical description

The most distinctive feature of the sloth bear is the V shaped white mark on its neck. The sloth bear has

black fur always and has no front teeth making it easier to eat its food. The male and females bears

bodys are 150-190 inchs long.

The Meerkat(Scientific name: Suricata suricatta)

By Drew Pinder &Michael Loucks

Physical DescriptionThe meerkat is a small dinural herpestid weighing on average about 731 grams (1.61

pounds) for males and 720 grams (1.58 pounds) for females. Its long slender body and limbs give it a body length of 12 to 35 in (1 to 2 feet) and an added tail length of 17 to 24 cm (7 to 10 inches). Its tail is not bushy like all other mongoose species, but is rather long and thin and tapers to a black or reddish colored pointed tip.

Activity CycleOnly active when the sun warms their

barrows.

HabitatThe meerkat lives in the desert area’s of the country’s South Africa, Nambia,

Angolia, Botswana, and Zimbabwe.

Did You Know?Meerkats hunt with amazing agility. Delicacies such as bugs, lizards, and small rodents prove easy prey for this predator. Meerkats differ from most mongooses because they live in large social communities of more than one family. Using their sharp claws, they dig huge burrows with tunnel systems for the colony. They all watch out for each other, and are often seen on their hind feet with their noses in the air, keeping watch. Meerkats are one of the few predators in the world to attack with absolutely no warning signs.

Panthera Tigris altaica

Habitat: They live in wet, humidand hot jungles as well as icy cold forests. They also live in a variety of habitats, including grasslands, subtropical and tropical rainforests, scrub forests, wet and dry decidous forests and mangroves. They could be found in Bangladesh, Siberia, Manchuria, Bengal,India, And also Nepal.

PHYSICAL DESCRIPTION: Male Bengal tigers measure 8 to 10 ft in length, and can weigh from 440-650 lb. Female Bengal tigers measure from around 8 to almost 9 fT and weigh in around 220 to 400 lb . The white bengal tigers are genetically rare in a family of tigers compared to an orange tiger. CLIMATE CHANGE: Global warming makes the water raise and if the tiger is hunting for fish global warming can drown the tiger. Also global warming causes temperatures to rise so it could affect the tigers travel to places it could cause dehydration.

ACTIVITY CYCLE: The Bengal tiger is Nocturnal, and Diurnal. Mainly activate during night but active during day also.

HUMAN INTERACTION: Bengal tigers have been hunted heavily by poachers for their fur and tigers body parts are sold as medicine in China. So thousands of tigers are dying everyday from hunting them. That’s how humans are affecting Bengal tigers. TERRITORIES:Males have big territories and females just stick around in the males territory instead of making or guarding their own.

Also the gorilla has finger prints.

The conservation status of the gorilla is of least concern. This is such because there are a large amount of gorillas in their

small range as shown above. The gorilla is terrestrial and lives in the mountains, forests, and lowlands.

The gorilla is located in Africa. The Countries Cameroon, Equatorial Guinea, Democratic Republic Of the

Congo, and Libreville.

Life Span 35-40 years in the wild and 50 years in captivity

Gorillas communicate using calls, facial expressions,

physical postures, tactile interaction, and scents. It mainly

uses the calls for communication.

Common Name: Cuban Crocodile

Binomial Name: Crocodylus Rhombifer

Description: The Cuban Crocodile is different from other crocodile because its

brighter colors, rougher scales and longer and stronger legs. Also it is the most intelligent

crocodile species. It has a short, broad head. Scales on the legs are larger than usual. The top part of its body has a pattern of black and yellow

speckles. The belly of the croc is pale with no markings. Cuban Crocodile have a total of 66 to

68 teeth. Unlike other crocodiles the Cuban Crocodile favor freshwater and rarely swims in

saltwater.

Conservation: The Cuban Crocodile is an

endangered species. The Cuban crocodile’s main threat is humans, who have hunted the crocodile extensively and have largely encroached upon their habitats. Today, 3,000 to

6,000 Cuban crocodiles are estimated to live in the wild in a 186-square-mile section of the southwestern part of the

swamp. Cuban crocodiles are strong swimmers and are also adept at walking and leaping. This makes them equally at home in water or on land. Temperature control is important because they cannot generate heat metabolically. They soak up heat from the sun or warm water, generally in the morning, when they are cold and groggy, or after a meal, because the heat raises their metabolisms.

Average temperatures remain at or above 18 °C (64 °F) year roundRainfall in tropical and subtropical grasslands, savannas, and scrublands is between 750 millimeters (30 in) and 1,270 millimeters (50 in) a year, and can be highly seasonal, with the entire year's rainfall sometimes occurring within a couple of weeks.

Conservation status

Vulnerable (IUC

Unlike most other big cats, lions live in groups, roar, are diurnal, and prefer open areas. These characteristics make them vulnerable to humans. The mane of the males protects the neck area during competitive fights. They are the only cat species to live in permanent groups. The group size is dependent upon prey availability. Each pride has a social dominance hierarchy based on strength. The females are all related and do most of the hunting. Their home range may cover as much as 100 square miles. Lions sleep up to 20 hours a day. Their tawny color acts as camouflage to hide them from their prey. They have retractable claws. Their teeth are designed for stabbing, biting and slicing. The tongue is rough enough to scrape meat off bones, and is also used for grooming
