Science – Electrical Safety

LI: To understand the necessary precautions for working safely with electricity

SC: I can explain what electricity is

I can describe how electricity travels to our homes

I can identify the dangers of electricity

I can identify safety percussions when working with electricity

Task: Use the PowerPoint provided and complete the activities within (all activities below are in the PowerPoint)

Electricity Pylons:

Power stations generate electricity, and these pylons transmit electricity all around Britain.

Pylon wires/cables, unlike wires in our houses, do not have protective shells around them (plastic) therefore electricity is exposed and can be very harmful to humans/animals.

Activities :

• Label the 10 dangers on the image of the kitchen and say why you think they are dangerous.

• Illustrate the safety rules you should follow when working with electricity in the form of a poster.

• Design a leaflet for employees of a power station so they can work safely with electricity.
