Portrait Lesson Process: Introduction (art style, artist, keywords): Using information provided on smartartforteachers.weebly.com... 1. Introduce Cubism 2. Introduce the artist: Pablo Picasso 3. Show students images of both Picasso’s abstract pictures as well as his later cubist images. Have students identify the characteristics of Picasso’s art that categorize it as abstract and cubist. Body (art project): 1. Give each pair of students a game board and a die 2. Explain the rules of the game: a. One partner rolls the die, and the number to which they roll corresponds to the face/eyes/ ears/nose/mouth they must draw in pencil b. While the first student is drawing the shape they have just landed on, the other partner rolls the die and then draws what the shape they landed on c. Students continue rolling their die (repeating steps 2a and 2b) until they have a complete face 3. When students have a completed pencil sketch of their Picasso head, they use a sharpie to outline the all of the lines 4. Students colour in their faces using abstract and unrealistic colours
