PAC-12 PLAYERS OF THE WEEK

OFFENSE: Travis Wilson, QB, UtahDEFENSE: Steven Nelson, CB, Oregon State

SPECIAL TEAMS: Kris Albarado, P, USC

Quarterback Travis Wilson of UTAH, cornerback Steven Nelson of OREGON STATE and punter Kris Albarado of USC have been named Pac-12 Players of the Week in football.

Wilson, a sophomore from San Clemente, Calif., completed 24 of 35 passes for 273 yards and no interceptions in leading Utah to a 20-13 victory over BYU, the fourth-straight win over their in-state rivals. His 74-yard second-quarter pass to Dres Anderson was his fifth pass play of more than 50 yards this season and set up a touchdown that put Utah up 13-0 just before halftime. Clinging to a 13-6 fourth-quarter lead, Wilson engineered a 12-play, 79-yard drive that concluded with a 2-yard touchdown pass and extended the Utes’ lead to 20-6.

Nelson, a junior from Atlanta, Ga., stepped in front of a San Diego State pass and returned it 16 yards for the game-winning touchdown in the Beaver’s come-from-behind 34-30 win over the Aztecs on Saturday night. The interception came with 2:31 left in the game with Oregon State down by three after they had faced deficits of 13 and nine points earlier in the second half. Nelson co-leads the na-tion with four picks on the year and is the first player in team history to have four interceptions in his first four career games.

Albarado, a sophomore punter from Lake Charles, La., helped stymie the Utah State offense with his precision punting in the Trojan’s 17-14 victory on Saturday at the Coliseum. Five of his seven punts pinned the Aggies within the 20-yard line, including two inside the five, leading to an average starting field position for Utah State on their own 21-yard line. The first-year punter is averaging 40.3 yards on 23 boots, with more than half (12) of those backing opponents within their own 20. He has a pair of 50-yard punts on the season, including a best of 64 yards.

Also nominated for offensive player of the week honors were quarterbacks Sean Mannion of Oregon State and Keith Price of WASHINGTON; running back Jordan James of UCLA; and wide receivers Jaelen Strong of ARIZONA STATE, Ty Montgomery of STANFORD and Gabe Marks of WASHINGTON STATE. Also nominated for defensive player of the week honors were defensive ends Cassius Marsh of UCLA, Leonard Williams of USC and Hau’oli Kikaha of Washington; defensive back Michael Walker of Utah; and linebacker Darryl Monroe of Washington State. Also nominated for special teams player of the week honors were punters Keith Kostol of Oregon State and Tom Hackett of Utah and UCLA kicker Ka’imi Fairbairn.

AROUND THE PAC-12

OUT OF THIS LEAGUE: The Pac-12 has had an impressive run in non-conference action this season, posting a 29-4 record to date. Since 1934, only one season witnessed the Conference capture more than 29 wins in non-league play - 2002 (32-15) when the league played an eight game conference schedule, allowing an additional 10 non-conference games to be played. Three non-league tilts remain this season against Notre Dame, and potentially a fourth non-league contest should Colorado arrange for a 12th game to be scheduled after its game with Fresno State was postponed. In addition, the Pac-12 is contracted with seven bowl games, so there could be an up to 11 non-league games remaining on the docket.

CONFERENCE ACTION: The Pac-12 kicks into full gear with conference play this weekend. A couple of key match ups this weekend will highlight the air assault of COLORADO and QB Connor Wood (370.5 yards pass-ing per game) at OREGON STATE and QB Sean Mannion (401.0 ypg); and the ground attack of ARIZONA (322.3 yards rushing per game), led by Ka’Deem Carey’s 149.5 ypg at WASHINGTON (303.7 ypg) behind Bishop Sankey’s 148.7 ypg . . . USC travels to ARIZONA STATE with each team looking for their first Pac-12 win of the season after each dropped their conference opener. GOOD HANDS: While Pac-12 quarterbacks have been putting up some big numbers in the first four weeks of the season, the big benefactors have been the receivers. Six Pac-12 receivers have hauled in 10 or more catches in a game eight times this season, led by OREGON STATE’s Brandin Cooks and COLORADO’s Paul Richardson with two each. Meanwhile, 17 different receivers have posted 100 or more receiving yards in a game 26 times, led by Cooks and UTAH’s Dres Anderson with three games each. Cooks leads all FBS players with 43 receptions and 639 yards.

PAC-12 BOWL ARRANGEMENTS - 2013-14

The Pac-12 is in the final year of a four-year bowl cycle. The Pac-12 Conference has agreements with seven bowl partners. The lineup is led by the Rose Bowl presented by Vizio, which is the destination for the Pac-12 champion, unless said champion is ranked No. 1 or No. 2 in the final Bowl Championship Series rankings. If that were the case, the Pac-12 champion would play in the BCS National Championship Game hosted by the Discover Orange Bowl. Regardless of the disposition of the Pac-12 champion, a second Pac-12 team may be selected for an at-large berth in the Bowl Championship Series in any given year and other Pac-12 bowl partner arrangements provide for that occurrence. In addition to the Rose Bowl presented by Vizio, Pac-12 bowl partners include, in order of selection, the Valero Alamo Bowl in San Antonio, Bridgeport Education Holiday Bowl in San Diego, Hyundai Sun Bowl in El Paso, the Las Vegas Bowl, the Kraft Fight Hunger Bowl in San Francisco, and the Gildan New Mexico Bowl in Albuquerque. Following is a summary of the Pac-12 bowl arrangements for the 2013-14 season:
