Front: With smaller needles and MC, CO 71 (77, 83) sts. Rows 1 & 3 (RS): *P2 sts, K3 sts, rep from * across row, end with P1. Rows 2 & 4 (WS): K1, *P3, K2, repeat from * across row. Rows 5 & 7 (RS): *P2 sts MC, K3 sts CC2; rep from * across row. Rows 6 & 8 (WS): *K2 sts MC, P3 sts CC2, rep from * across row.

Repeat rows 1 and 2 until ribbing measures 2” from beg. (RS) P1 row dec 5 sts evenly across row. K1 row.

Body: With larger needles, K 1 row, dec 5 sts evenly across row and place marker as follows for chart placement: K 5 (8, 11) sts, PM, K53 sts (all sizes for chart), PM, K 6 (9, 12) sts. - 64 (70, 76) sts Work Chart 1 until piece measures 12½” or desired length to underarm, end with WS row.

Shape Armhole: BO 4 sts at beg of next 2 rows – 56 (62, 68) sts. Work even until piece measures 4” from armhole shaping.

Shape Neck: Knit 19 (22, 25) sts, join second ball of yarn, BO center 18 sts, Knit 19 (22, 25) sts. Working both sides at the same time, BO 2 sts at each neck edge 1x, then 1 sts at each neck edge every other row 2x – 15 (18, 21) shoulder sts, break yarn. BO 26 neck sts, break yarn. BO 15 (18, 21) shoulder sts.

Back: Work same as for front, omitting Chart 1, to armhole shaping.

Shape Armhole: BO 4 sts at beg of next 2 rows – 56 (62, 68) sts. Work even until piece measures 18½” from beg, end WS row. BO 15 (18, 21) shoulder sts, break yarn. BO 26 neck sts, break yarn. BO 15 (18, 21) shoulder sts.

Sleeves: With smaller needles, CO 37 stitches. Work in K3, P2 ribbing as for front for 2” as follows:

Row 1: *P2, K3*; repeat between *’s, end P2. Row 2: *K2, P3*; rep between *’s, end K2. With larger needles, knit 1 row, increasing 3 sts evenly across row. (40 stitches) Continue in Stockinette stitch, increasing 1 stitch at each end of every 4th row 11 times until piece measures 13” from the beginning ending on a WS row. (62 stitches) BO.

Ribbing: Row 1: *P2, K3, rep from * across row, end with P2. Row 2: *K2, P3, rep from * across row, end with K2. Tail Ridges (Make 5): With smaller needles, and CC2, CO 7 sts. K 1 row. P 1 row. K2tog, K3 sts K2tog. – 5 sts. P 1 row. K2tog, K1, K2tog. – 3 sts. P 1 row. Slip 1 st, K2tog, psso. BO Note: Pockets can be duplicate stitched if preferred.

XO Pockets: With smaller needles and CC1, CO 23 sts. Work Chart 2 in St st. Work 3 rows K1, P1 rib pattern. BO loosely.

A Pocket: With smaller needles and CC1, CO 13 sts. Work Chart 3 in St st. Work 4 rows K1, P1 rib pattern. BO loosely.

O Pocket: With smaller needles and CC1, CO 13 sts. Work Chart 4 in St st. Work 4 rows K1, P1 rib pattern. BO loosely.

Finishing: Join shoulder seams. With circular needles and MC, pick up 30 sts from back neck, 14 sts from left neck, 17 sts from center front, 14 sts from right neck. PM

Work rib as for back for 1”.

With MC, P 1 row. BO in P.

Sew in Sleeves. Sew on pockets. Follow chart 1 to attach eyes. Back Stitch eyebrows using CC1. Following photo, sew ridges to back tail of alligator. Sew side and sleeve seams. Weave in ends. Block as necessary.
