Pastor’s Message

Worship for Sunday, November 24th will be centered around a number of

different hymns, focused on the themes of thanksgiving and the Lordship of

Christ. We’ll sing hymns, hear stories about hymns, and read scripture re-

lated to hymns.

But which hymns?

That’s where you come in. It will be the time of Thanksgiving, and

also will be Christ the King Sunday. So, as you think of how you raise a

song of thanksgiving to God, as you give thanks for the Lordship of Christ in

your life and the life of the world, what favorite hymn(s) comes to mind?

I need to hear from you your hymn choice by no later than Sunday,

November 10th so I have time to put together the service. You can drop a

note to me on Sunday morning or email me at [email protected]. Please tell me the name of

the hymn; what number it is in either the Glory to God hymnal or the Sing the Faith hymnal (if you

know it); and, if you are so inclined, maybe a few notes on what the song means to you, maybe even

a personal story about the hymn that sheds light on why the song is special to you. I’ll try to use as

many hymns as feasible, and, if you turn in multiple hymns, I’ll try to use at least one of your selec-

tions.

Then be sure and be there for worship, Sunday, November 24th as we sing in thanksgiving and

proclaim the Lordship of Christ, “making a joyful noise unto the Lord!”

In Christ,

Bill Vincent

Veteran’s Day Prayer Dear Lord, Today we honor our veterans, worthy men and women who gave their best when they were called upon to serve and protect their country. We pray that you will bless them, Lord, for their unselfish service in the continual struggle to preserve our freedoms, our safety, and our country’s heritage, for all of us. Bless them abundantly for the hardships they faced, for the sacrifices they made for their many different contributions to America’s victories over tyranny and oppression. We respect them, we thank them, we honor them, we are proud of them, and we pray that you will watch over these special people and bless them with peace and happiness. In Jesus’ name we pray; Amen. Thank you to all those that have served. Happy Veteran’s Day!

In honor of all those who have served in the Military, who are currently serving and who have paid

the ultimate sacrifice, there will be a display of military flags from November 10th thru Veteran’s

Day, November 11th in the courtyard.

A PILGRIMAGE IN

PILGRIMAGE: A long journey to a sacred place as an act of devotion

ON THE OCASSION OF 20 YEARS OF PARTNERSHIP

sponsored by:

Red Uniendo Manos Peru, Presbytery of Giddings-Lovejoy Joining Hands Peru Partnership, and the Presbyterian Hunger Program

AUGUST 1-15, 2020

From the Desert Shores of the Pacific to the Andes Mountains and Amazon Jungle beyond, Peru is one of the most ecologically diverse places in

the world, rich with natural resources. Due to its vast territory and gold and silver production, Peru was considered one of Spain´s most important

colonies. Declaring its independence in 1821, Peru continued to exploit the resources and people of the land for economic growth.

Today, the Andes continue to have great mining potential, and the Amazon basin has rich oil deposits. Increased exploitation of such resources,

known as extractive activity, has led to major economic growth in recent decades, yet the gap between rich and poor in Peru is increasing and

remains one of the highest in the Americas. Among the most impoverished peoples are indigenous populations whose health, livelihoods and

way of life are gravely impacted by contamination. Furthermore, Peru is one of the most vulnerable countries in the world to climate change. It is

in this context that the Presbyterian Hunger Program, Presbyterian World Mission, and Presbytery of Giddings-Lovejoy join in ministry with its

global partner Red Uniendo Manos Peru (Peru Joining Hands Network).

On this very special occasion, we will celebrate 20 years of this sacred partnership as we embrace our call as Presbyterians to be a Mat-

thew 25 Church - followers of Jesus engaged in the world today, practicing an ethic of love and deepening our reverence for this one

Common Home we share.

COST for full two weeks (August 1-15): $2100 plus airfare to/from Peru (based on double occupancy)

tion including a carbon emissions offset)

Commitment: Pre trip study and orientation session(s) and post-trip follow-up session and covenant to use knowledge and experience gained

from trip to share Joining Hands work with churches, presbytery, others.
