Welcome to the 20th Pacific Rim Real Estate Society (PRRES) Conference hosted by the Faculty of Commerce at Lincoln University in Canterbury, New Zealand. It is particularly pleasing to be hosting this year’s conference, as the predecessor to PRRES, the Australasian Real Estate Educators (AREE) conference was first convened at Lincoln University in December 1990 by Professor John Baen. Over 75 delegates attended the inaugural meeting, 42 papers were presented, and the scene was set for future growth in collaborative academic research projects in the region. The annual PRRES conference circuit has since become an established forum for regional and international property researchers.

The 2014 PRRES meeting is an International Real Estate Society (IRES)-branded conference. Strong links have grown between the members of the IRES that include PRRES. Other members of the IRES network include the American (ARES), European (ERES), Asian (AsRES), African (AfRES), Latin American (LaRES) and Middle Eastern and North African (MENARES) Real Estate Societies.

The 20th PRRES Conference offers a friendly and welcoming professional development and networking opportunity for current undergraduates, postgraduates, academics and industry professionals, including:

• Over 75 academic papers covering a variety of property research

• A mentored PhD Colloquium programme

• The Estate Master Case Study competition

• Social functions including the welcome reception, women’s breakfast and conference dinner

• An opportunity for members to promote their research.

The venue

Christchurch is the largest city in the South Island. With a population of just over 400,000 it provides many wonderful attractions without being too big to get around. Served by a modern international airport, Christchurch gives visitors the best of what New Zealand has to offer. In a comparatively unspoilt corner of the world, residents and visitors enjoy urban living and

wilderness adventure. January is summer time in Christchurch with average daytime temperatures of 22°C. The annual International Busking Festival provides first-class, free street theatre for two weeks from mid-January. This event, together with the Garden City Summer Times (www.summertimes.co.nz) – a diverse, three-month-long summer festival of music, arts, culture and sporting events across the city – makes Christchurch an excellent holiday choice for all the family. In keeping with the inaugural 1990 conference, this year’s conference will be hosted at Lincoln University, in the township of Lincoln, some 23km south-west from Christchurch City.

Transport will be provided daily to/from the designated city hotels to the conference venue, for those wishing to stay in town. Plentiful student accommodation is available on campus. Other accommodation will be shown on the PRRES website conference page www.prres.net.
