BioShaft Water Technology Inc. Based in California, USA owns the BioShaft SYSTEM patent worldwide. The Company designs and manufacturers both domestic and industrial treatment plants using the Bioshaft patent. The design of the BioShaft SYSTEM is elegantly simple. Within the heart of our system is the BioShaft Turbo Reactor. It works by emulating and accelerating a natural process found in rivers utilizing 100% attached growth process that generates high concentration of Biofilm eliminating the production of sludge and odor. Conventional wastewater treatment produces significant amounts of sludge which must be additionally treated and disposed of at tremendous cost. “Over 35% of the operating costs and 25% of the capital costs of a conventional wastewater treatment plant are devoted to the pressing, dewatering, transportation and disposal of sludge.” The BioShaft System technology successfully overcomes many of these types of problems that have confronted prior attempts on wastewater Treatment.

It is known that a conventional suspended growth system requires large aeration and sedimentation tank volumes. These volumes can be reduced significantly with use of Biomass carriers which have a high specific surface area. It enables the aeration tank to be operated at high Biomass content (15-30Kg/m3) compared to the conventional aeration process (2.5-3 Kg/m3).

Screened waste

BIOFILM

Pretreated waste is fed to the Aeration digestion (AD) tank after screening particles bigger than 10mm and separating oil and grit. The AD tank is equipped with fine bubble diffused air system which provides Oxygen and efficient mixing of concentrated biomass. Rapid digestion of organic matter occurs at this stage of treatment.

The wastewater then flows towards the BioShaft Turbo Reactor where it flows through the biological aeration chamber which contains the hollow plastic media (biofilm carriers.)The unique design of the carriers results in anoxic decomposition taking place on the inner surface, while on the outside corrugated surface, the process is aerobic. The oxygen demand for the decomposition process is provided by the central air lift aerator shown providing an enormous number of micro bubbles inside the central pipe which saturate the wastewater with oxygen and simultaneously force the wastewater up to the surface. This oxygen rich fluid then passes downward into the aeration chamber in intimate contact with the carriers. Because the carriers have a Relative Density less than one, they will always try to rise towards the surface, but are constantly forced downward under the pressure of the aerated wastewater. These two forces ensure that there is constant upward and downward motion of the carriers within the aeration chamber. Collision between the carriers will occur which will remove the excess microbial biomass by means of the down current. This self-cleaning feature will protect the biological reactor against any possible clogging, and makes the unit virtually maintenance free. This active biomass is then recycled back to the AD tank continuously.

Purified water rises up the outer compartment of the Turbo Reactor and flows by gravity to the Clarifier tank for final settlement and polishing before discharge. Excess biomass settles to the bottom of the clarifier and re\cycled back to the AD tank.

Recycled biofilm & SS

The effluent produced by the biological stage is very low in biological content, odorless and contains minimum quantity of suspended matter

The final effluent is then disinfected by chlorination and polished by filtration
