NEWSLETTER ISSUE No. 4 2020
Welcome back to the new school term. The finish to last term and the start of this one have been challenging for staff and parents alike and our school staff are extremely appreciative of the support we have received to date from our entire school community. Like every school in WA, we have needed to make ongoing adjustments to school processes to accommodate the challenges faced. We continue to make adjustments to processes as advice/instructions from the government, Health Department and Department of Education is updated and are endeavouring to communicate these as soon as possible for parents. I would like to remind and/or advise parents of the following:
Parents are currently not permitted on the school grounds Students who are unwell should be kept at home. Teachers have been
instructed to contact parents if children present at school and are clearly unwell. In some circumstances, I may require parents to provide a medical certificate attesting to their child’s fitness for school. This is to ensure that we minimise the risk of any infections being passed on at school.
Students should arrive at school between 8:30am and 8:40am. Whilst I have
previously advised parents of this, I had overlooked advising staff, who were still operating on our initial decision to have students arrive at 8:40am. This was an oversight on my part and I apologise for any misunderstandings this may have caused.
We have been allocated approximately 10 hours per day of additional
cleaning for the school site (PPS and LDC). The cleaning is being coordinated by Mrs Tan and all classrooms are being cleaned daily on a rotational basis. The focus for our cleaners is cleaning high contact items and surfaces.
All classrooms have been provided with hand sanitiser, hand soap and paper
towels. The school is very supplied with these products and the students have been using them as required. Some students have brought in their own sanitiser and this is kept on their desks for their personal use.
Playground equipment and sports equipment is available to students on a
restricted basis and these are cleaned following each recess and lunch break. Playground equipment is also cleaned before school.
Large gatherings such as assemblies, carnivals etc will not be held until we
are advised otherwise
2
The school library will be open and children can borrow books on a weekly basis. Books with plastic or contact covers will be cleaned on their return. Books without plastic or contact covers will be quarantined for 24 hours on their before being made available. This will be undertaken by the Library Officer.
The quarantining and cleaning of home reading books on a daily basis is
problematic. Like library books, there are some which have been covered and some which have not. In the interests of minimising risk to students, home readers will not be sent home for the time being.
Birthday treats should not be sent to school for the time being. As with all the
current advice, this decision has been taken in the best interests of student wellbeing in the current circumstances.
It is hoped that, as restrictions and circumstances change, much of the above will return to “normal”. We will keep parents advised of changes and seek your continued support for these measures we have put in place to make our school as safe as possible. ATTENDANCE Because of the disruptions faced last term, we will not be awarding attendance certificates for the term. However, I am pleased to advise that our attendance rate for this week has risen from 84% on Monday to 94% today. We are optimistic that we will soon be back to full attendance. TERM 1– 2020
Year 6 Grip Leadership Conference
On Friday 13th March our year 6 students
attended the Grip Leadership Conference
at the Perth Convention Centre. The
students had a fantastic time, interacting
with students from other schools and
learning valuable skills like how to be a good leader and what it means to
be a good leader. Thankyou Mr Gillett and Mrs Holmes for making this
opportunity available to our students.
Art with Mrs Reid
Last term our Year 3/4 class made clay
fish hanging ornaments in Art. They look
fabulous well done everyone.
WELCOME BACK TO TERM 2
It is great to see all the students returning this term and settling in well. There are a lot of
happy faces in classes and we are seeing fabulous peer support with the Year 6’s buddying up
with the Year 4’s for a Science experiment. Our Library is looking so colourful with the addition
of our new shelving and fabulous world map mat.
