ICT at Duncraig

ICT is used as a tool for learning which enables all students to have the opportunity to become competent, discriminating, creative and productive users of ICT. Students develop the knowledge, skills and capacity to select and use ICT to inquire, develop new understandings, create and communicate with others in order to participate effectively in society and achieve their academic goals. All students need to be able to operate, communicate, create, inquire, and recognise the ethical use of ICT in order to apply for jobs and to be a participating member of our community. Duncraig Senior High School is a BYOD school, students are requested to bring a parent funded device complying as closely as possible to the following specifications -

• Apple device with at least a 10 inch screen, approx. 8 hour battery life OR • Windows 10 device at least a 10 inch screen, approx. 8 hour battery life.

While we allow tablets, a laptop integrates more effectively into our ICT workflow. Duncraig Senior High School strongly recommends students bring a pen enabled laptop. The pen allows them to easily annotate electronic notes, maintain hand writing skills and actively participate in lessons to embed learning. Several are available on the Winthrop portal below. Students will be able to connect to our wireless if they complete a BYOD agreement. Parent Funded 1:1 Bundles are available through our partner in ICT Winthrop Australia. This package has been specifically arranged by Duncraig Senior High School. To purchase go directly to the Winthrop portal . Password 4129. Please note: Loan computers are available for families experiencing financial hardship or technical issues with their device. Please email [email protected] to request support.

installation, use the ‘Troubleshoot installation’ link located under the Install button on the

screen shown above, or else follow the links given in any error message.

• You may need to relaunch the installation a couple of times if it at first fails to make the required connections but, with perseverance, the process should eventually complete – as long as you are not trying to do it over the school network, which definitely won’t work.

• Once the installation has finished, you should have a full suite of MS Office applications available on your computer. These programs can be launched in the usual way (e.g. from

Who can use these downloaded applications? Once the MS Office suite is installed

on a computer or tablet, it is available to any user of that device. The Department of Education’s licence with Microsoft allows for this as long as 50% or more of the usage is

FEEDBACK Teachers may print out work and write feedback or give electronic feedback via SEQTA. SEQTA, Microsoft Word and Adobe Reader allow comments to be added and the document can be sent back to the student.

Internet usage Personal Computer Usage policy (Extract) Internet access is expensive and has been provided to assist students' education. Students must use it only with permission, and not in any unauthorized way. Students will have a monthly limit and risk losing access if they go over that limit. Students will be allocated 5Gb per day with a 2GB limit on Youtube. Certain subject areas may be granted additional access. Ultimately, it is the responsibility of individual students to ensure their behaviour does not contravene school rules or rules imposed by parents/guardians. The school is aware that definitions of "offensive" and "inappropriate" will vary considerably between cultures and individuals. The school is also aware that no security system is perfect and that there is always the possibility of inappropriate material, intentionally and unintentionally, being obtained and displayed. Students must not deliberately enter or remain in any site that has any of the following content:

• Nudity, obscene language or discussion intended to provoke a sexual response • Violence • Information about committing any crime • Information about making or using weapons, booby traps, dangerous practical jokes or

"revenge" activities Students must:

• Follow school guidelines and procedures when preparing materials for publication on the web

Page 13: Page 1 Go to Contents - Duncraig SHS€¦ · Page 1 Go to Contents This document is best viewed in the latest version of Adobe Reader. Adobe Reader is available free of charge, and

Page 12 Go to Contents

• Not use material from other websites unless they have permission from the person who created the material. If unsure, they should check with their teacher

• Not access any other material that their parents or guardians have forbidden them to see. If students encounter any such site, they must immediately turn off the personal computer and notify a teacher. They should not show the site to their friends first.

Cybersafety Staying safe online

• Keep your profile set to private and check your settings regularly. • Don't share personal information, and protect yourself from strangers online. • Think about your personal safety before you 'check in' or use location based services. • Manage your digital reputation responsibly. • Respect others and look after each other online. Dealing with cyberbullying

• Block the cyberbully. • Take a screenshot as evidence of the cyberbullying. • Report offensive material to your teacher or parent/guardian. • Talk to a friend or trusted adult. • For more help, call the Kids Helpline (1800 55 1800) or

contact the police (131 444 for non-urgent matters or 000 for emergencies).
