May 13, 2018 The Ascension of the Lord
MISSION STATEMENT
Today we celebrate Christ's ascension into heaven and His commissioning of the disciples to carry on His mission in the world. First we hear Luke's description of those events in the opening verses of the Acts of the Apostles. Next we hear words of encouragement and guidance from the Letter to the Ephesians. Finally we hear Mark's account of the Ascension, foretelling the mighty words and acts the Christian community would do in Jesus' name. Together these scriptures give us a vision of the mission of the church of Jesus Christ--a mission statement of sorts. Like mission statements in our parishes and corporations, this mission statement can help us set priorities and focus our activities. It can guide and support us as we strive to continue Christ's messianic mission on earth. Copyright (c) J. S. Paluch Co., Inc.

Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ,
His Holiness has encouraged us, "to engage in constructive forms of communication that fosters a culture of encounter." The main goal of the Catholic Communication Campaign (CCC)
is to provide funding so that different forms of communication can do precisely that. The CCC helps enable communication in areas unable to receive the Gospel. Live streaming of events empowers Catholic News Service with teams of reporters, editors, photographers, and videographers, ensuring coverage of events has a global reach. With support of the CCC, a radio station in the Democratic Republic of Congo has been established to share the Gospel with those living in the North Kivu province, on the far eastern border of the country. This radio station will provide people with quality, faith-filled programming to encourage spiritual growth and evangelization. Through your generosity this project, and others like it, can spread the Gospel around the world. Generous support on your part of this collection, helps others encounter Christ each and every day. Your gifts will not only support projects on a national and international scale but also here in our own Diocese. Of the funds we collect, one-half will remain here in the Diocese to assist our evangelization efforts through local Communications projects. I take this opportunity to assure you and your families of my continued consideration as well as my prayers. Thank you for your generosity!
Sincerely yours in Christ,
Bishop Frank Dewane Bishop of the Diocese of Venice in Florida

Are Refugees a Security Risk?
1. The most difficult way to enter the United States legally is as a refugee. No other category of traveler to the United States undergoes such
a rigorous and detailed screening process. Source: White House
2. The screening process typically takes 18-24 months and involves numerous federal
intelligence and security agencies, including the Department of Homeland Security, the
Department of State, the Department of Defense, the National Counterterrorism Center,
and the Federal Bureau of Investigation. Source: The U.S. Department of State
3. Fewer than 1% of all refugees are even considered for resettlement. Refugees undergo
biographic and fingerprint security checks to confirm their identity. They are also extensively
interviewed by specially trained officers from U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services.
The Lasting Impact of
Endowment Funds
Would you like to make a significant difference in the lives of others for years to come?
Are you interested in mak-ing sure your parish, school or favorite ministry
continue well beyond your lifetime? Consider cre-ating an endowment fund with the Catholic Com-
munity Foundation. Endowment funds help provide long-term stability
and sustainability by investing your original donation and using the earnings to support the
Catholic organization of your choice. If you would like more information about
endowment funds, please contact the Catholic Community Foundation at

Blessing Prayer for Mother ’s Day
God of Love, listen to this prayer. God of Holy People, of Sarah, Ruth, and Rebekah;
God of holy Elizabeth, mother of John, of Holy Mary, Mother of Jesus, bend down Your ear to this request and bless the mother of our family.
Bless her with the strength of Your spirit, she who has taught her children how to stand and walk.
Bless her with the melody of Your love, she who has shared how to speak, how to sing and how to pray to You.
Bless her with a place at Your eternal dinner table, she who has fed and nurtured the life that was formed within her
while still helpless but embraced in her love.
Bless her today, now, in this lifetime, with good things, with health.
Bless her with joy, love, laughter, and pride in her child/children and surround her with many good friends.
May she who carried life in her womb be carried one day to Your divine embrace:
there, for all eternity, to rejoice with her family and friends.
This blessing and all grace, we pray, descend upon the mother of our family:
in the name of the Father, and of the Son
and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.
