Principal’s Report Amanda Williams Congratulations to FPS students on their Student-Parent-Teacher Conferences Another term has come to an end and it has definitely ended with some great celebrations. It was wonderful to hear our students discuss their learning with parents/carers and teachers with such positivity and knowledge of what they have learnt and what their goals are going forward. In feedback from students, they have said that whilst they were initially nervous, they enjoyed the experience. Parents have commented that they liked seeing their child’s work books, they were impressed by how articulate their child was, they didn’t realise that their child knew so much and also that it was good to have 10 minutes instead of the usual 5 minutes. Congratulations to all of our students from Prep to Year 6 who ALL prepared and presented a 10 minute discussion of their learning and goal setting! What a great effort! Please remember that if you have any concerns about your child or their learning, please contact your child’s teacher who is more than happy to meet you at a suitable time to discuss concerns. Student Leaders at School Council Monday evening was a history-making event for the FPS School Council with students being involved for the first time! Congratulations to Claire, William, Abbie, Kobe, Nura, Hannah and Thomas who described how students are providing feedback into curriculum development and design of learning spaces. In Nura’s words… “In our learning and learning spaces we want to feel ready to learn, relaxed, proud, inspired, awesome and unstoppable!” Our Senior Education Improvement Leader Allana Bryant also attended and complimented our School Councillors on their vision in incorporating student agency and leadership in our meetings. Allana commented on how articulate our students were discussing their input and plans with parents. Evolvi-Con Art Exhibition Last Thursday was our Art exhibition “Evolvi-Con” organised by our Art extension students and Art teacher Surbhi Kumari. Ove 50 families attended to view Art works exhibited. A huge thank you to Surbhi for her work this term. >>>>cont.. School Council News

The last meeting of the FPS School Council in the evening of Monday 25th June, was an exciting and historical one. Student Representative Council members from Grades 5 & 6, representing the school body, came to present to the School Council and were welcomed by President, Peter Horman. They explained how they are going to encourage all FPS students to have their say in how the curriculum is delivered and taught. Their aim is to help improve participation, interest and engagement in learning of all students at FPS. Senior Education Improvement Leader from the Department of Education & Training, Allana Bryant, was also in attendance to proudly witness this significant occasion, which will happen 4 times per year. Also discussed, was the new student area being set up outside the Art Room next to the stairs, which had been previously used for storage. The School council approved the replacement of water-damaged carpet in this area in readiness for the students to design this space to their requirements, which was explained, will be collaborative effort. Congratulations to all students who presented. They were confident, professional and informative. We look forward to their involvement in future meetings. Students and their families were also in attendance when the School Council discussed progress with our Grounds Masterplan. We thanked Bart Sbeghan from the School Council, who recently met with our local MP, Danny Pearson, to discuss our Grounds Masterplan. It was mentioned that involving the student “voice” in the form of presentations, and/or writing persuasive letters to the MP, would be a powerful means of asking for some financial assistance for our grounds makeover. Also discussed was the important subject of safety with respect to traffic management in Padman Lane and Flemington Street, particularly in the morning drop-off. The safety of children, families and teachers is paramount, and it was agreed that a working party be formed to collaborate with experts and the school community to ensure we are all working together and doing our part to make drop-off and pick-up times as safe as possible for everyone. Garth Hardiman, President of the FPS Parent & Carers Association (HUB), also presented to the School Council. The work of the HUB is an important part of the school community and to help raise funds for our school. He discussed the importance of recruiting volunteers. Joining the HUB is a wonderful way of socialising and meeting other FPS families and to promote a feeling of community and belonging. The School Council thanks all members of the HUB in their continued efforts to provide wonderful events like the Trivia Night, and the School Fete, all of which take a lot of work to organise and run. Special thanks go to Ellen Connor for all her hard work in organising a very successful School Fete, which despite the horrendous weather, raised an amazing final value of $18,419.39, all of which goes towards the Grounds Masterplan. Student leaders commented that they loved the “water slide” at the Fete!! Ellen was also instrumental in organising the wonderful Trivia Night held at the Flemington-Kensington Bowls Club last Saturday evening. Again, special thanks to Garth, Ellen, Danielle, Janine, Lucy and all the wonderful HUB team! The School Council would also like to welcome Shari Manley as our Community Member. Together with Ayan Mohamed, she founded & established the FPS Family Play Group pilot program in November 2017 to promote the development of cross cultural relationships. It involves children [ and their families] who are younger siblings of existing students or are enrolled to attend FPS the following year and helps them to be involved and connected to the school environment. The School Council has now endorsed the program to continue its community-building activities. The School Council would like to farewell and thank Natalie MacLaren, outgoing Business Manager, for all her work at FPS and wish her every success in her future endeavours. We warmly welcome Amy Mullins as her replacement. We would also like to extend our gratitude to Sandra McOrist for her many years of tireless work. She has made an invaluable contribution to our school, and we hope to be able to thank her formally in the near future.

The next School Council meeting is scheduled for Monday 30th July at 7pm. Should you wish to attend as a visitor, please register at the office beforehand.

If you can help, please contact us via the email [email protected] or contact us in person. It can be difficult for us to approach people directly to ask for assistance, so we rely on you coming forward. If a lot of us can do a little… No prior experience needed, just enthusiasm.

Canteen Friday after school – Thanks Lisa and the team – what a great term!

Trivia Night – Thanks to Ellen for organising, Danielle, Tim and Luke for assisting and to everyone who came along – it was great fun and we raised almost $1500, which will go toward grounds improvements. It is official that watching Love Island dulls the IQ, as we came last – convincingly… even my paper plane bombed out, but because we have a positive mindset, we turned adversity into a good time, and I now have a lot of work to do on my proficiency scale! – ooh, I won 2nd prize in the raffle… Term 3 HUB meeting – Probably Monday 23rd July, 7.30 in the staff tearoom. As always, everyone is welcome to attend, and you won’t be cornered into organizing everything – though if it does go quiet and everyone is staring at you, you may feel you want to raise your hand (hehehe).
