    FIRE COORDINATOR’S OFFICE

For the last few months, Hot Topics has featured the goals that our associations Presidents have established for their organizations. This month’s issue is from the Rockland County Volunteer Firemen’s Association, as prepared by our new president, his officers and the Board of Directors. As the largest firemanic & oldest Association in Rockland County, the Rockland County Volunteer Firemen’s Association has tremendous resources, especially when joining forces with all the other organizations in our county. Congratulations to the new President, the Vice-Presidents and the other elected officers. I look forward to working with you in conjunction with the other associations to make the volunteer fire service in Rockland County stronger than ever. The Association was organized in 1912. The object of this assoc is the advancement of the interest of the volunteer firefighters, companies and fire service, promoting and strengthening the bonds of unity, which should properly exist among the various fire depts. and co’s throughout Rockland County and to render assistance, encouragement and in general, everything that would tend to enhance the efficiency of volunteer firefighters and further their cause. The Assn. sponsors an annual Day at the Home for State Firefighters Home in Hudson, NY. It provides bus transportation and food & drink for the day trip. The Assn. and member dept./cos. collect funds and make a presentation to the Home that day. The Assn. annually recognizes and celebrates length of service for all Rockland firefighters with 50 or more years of service as well as companies with significant anniversaries. It also provides two $1250 scholarships annually to graduating high school seniors of members. The Assn. publishes an informative, free newsletter monthly know as “The Trumpet” and distributes it to all volunteer fire co. and members. The Assn. also provides a free equipment link on it’s website for the Rockland County FCA where departments can inventory and swap/sell or give away used equipment within the county. The RCVFA sponsors the annual Firefighter of the Year and Unit Citation awards program. We provide informational and educational programs at our monthly meetings and look forward to assisting in sponsoring any future seminars as needed by any other county fire associations. John Kryger, RCVFA Corresponding Secretary.
