Do you remember the school bus ride in our early days? When we were young and foolish, we thought we would never change our ways Someone would save a seat, so with your best friend you could sit And that ride to school was a joyful fun-filled trip We talked about the future and we talked about the past And never a thought came to mind, that these wonderful times wouldn’t last But we were young and foolish, and everything we did was fun Nothing was taken seriously, as our young lives had just begun The old bus was cold as ice; the heater didn’t work the best If we were cold it didn’t show, no one would have ever guessed But we were young and foolish and our cares were very few If we couldn’t find something to laugh about, we would pick something from the blue The bus driver would catch us in the mirror, and sometimes he would laugh with us It’s a wonder we didn’t rear-end someone, and wreck the old school bus But we were young and foolish, and good times were soon to end Our care-free days would leave us, like rose petals in the wind Then the day finally rolled around, when we would ride the bus no more And now all that’s left is the memory, of riding School Bus Number Four Evart School Bus Ride in the thirties and forties SCHOOL BUS NUMBER FOUR Leland Wilson INVASIVE PLANTS OF MICHIGAN Date: Friday, October 4, 2013 Time: 10:00 am - 12 noon Location: Paris Park Fish Hatchery 10:00 am - Welcome & Introductions, Charmaine Lucas, Osceola-Lake & Mecosta Conservation District Administrator 10:10 am - Impacts of Forestry Invasives, Rick Lucas, Osceola-Lake & Mecosta Conservation District Forester 10:30 am - Autumn Olive and Spotted Knapweed ID and Control Measures, Jerry Lindquist, MSU Extension Agriculture Educator 11:15 am - Chemical Handling & Safety, Tony Wernette, Mecosta and Montcalm County MAEAP Technician 11:30 am - Beyond Invasives: Land Management and Financial Incentives, Jennifer Taylor, Mecosta County USDA-NRCS 11:45 am - Questions & Discussion 12 noon - Lunch provided Presented by the Osceola-Lake & Mecosta Conservation District

On August 6th hundreds of Evart residents were ticketed by local law enforcement officers at our 7th Annual National Night Out Block Party at Riverside Park. These tickets gave people a chance to win gift certificates for free pizzas, bowling, golf or one of the one hun- dred school ready backpacks that were donated for the event. Of course, at the end of the night our traditional grand drawing was held in which six bicycles complete with helmets were won. The true purpose of this event is to focus on making our community a safe place in which to live, getting to know our local law enforcement offi- cers and getting to know our neighbors better. So in addition to winning prizes everyone had the opportunity to meet and talk with Evart Police officers, members of the Evart Area Fire Department, Officers from the Osceola Sheriffs Department, members of the Osceola County Emergency Management Department and even officers from the Michigan State Police. Local community services such as Big Brothers/Big Sisters, Youth Attention Center and Eagle Village were also on hand to meet atten- dees. The Evart Masons provided complete child ID kits to parents and the Evart Lions offered early retinal screenings for youngsters preparing to enter school or in the early stages of their school expe- rience. 1016 Recovery Network was there with their vision impairing glasses and pedal cars and a smoke house was available to learn about house fires. But the night wasnt all serious stuff. Once again this year the fire department provided water activities, there was a dunk tank and even a scavenger hunt with popsicles! Lets not forget all the food! Thanks to the Evart Moose, hot dogs, chips and drinks were available to everyone and what would the night be without Erics cotton candy? A big thank you goes out to all who participated and worked to make the evening a success. Special thanks to the local businesses that supported this event. Thanks also to the Evart Chamber of Commerce, Hinkle Witbeck Insurance, Taylor Insurance, Fosters and Meijer; with everyone working together we can make Evart a safer community. Event sponsors: GFWC Evart Womans Club, Evart Police Department and Evart Area Fire Department.
