Martin & Hightower Heritage Chapel of Carrollton was in charge of the arrangements. Have you ever been so sure that something was going to happen, that when it didn’t you were shocked? I was in the middle of a spelling bee in my elementary class at school. It was a team game, so if you missed a word, it didn’t just affect you, but your team as well. I was given the word “chaos” to spell. I remember that I was so sure I knew how to spell it that I turned to my team and gave them a look that said “don’t worry, I’ve got this.” I then spelled it “k-a-y-o-s”. Of course, that was wrong and I was literally shocked to pieces. I find that in my Minister’s Corner Christian life, there are times when I know God is going to do something a particular way, and then He does some- thing different and it shocks my socks off. And He warns us that this can happen. In Isaiah 55 the Lord says “My thoughts are completely different from yours…and My ways are far beyond anything you could imag- ine. For just as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are My ways higher than your ways and My thoughts higher than your thoughts.” In Proverbs 16 it says “we can make our plans, but the Lord determines our steps.” Can you see it is important that we keep talking with God and living our lives by His ways, so that when God sur- prises us with an unexpected outcome, our faith in Him will stay strong?
