Covid-19: India reports 37,154 cases, 724 deaths in past 24 hrs NEW DELHI: India recorded 37,154 new Covid-19 cases during the past 24 hours, push- ing the country's case- load to 3,08,74,376, while the death toll soared to 4,08,764 with 724 more fatalities, the Union Health Ministry said on Monday. The active cases de- clined by 3,219 to stand at 4,50,899. It is now 1.46 per cent of the total caseload. The past 24 hours saw 39,649 people recovering from the deadly virus, taking the total recovery count to 3,00,14,713, which is 97.22 per cent of the case tally. Gold plunges by Rs 169; silver tanks Rs 300 NEW DELHI: Gold in the national capital on Mon- day dipped Rs 169 to Rs 46,796 per 10 gram with a fall in global precious metal prices, according to HDFC Securities. In the previous trade, the precious metal had closed at Rs 46,965 per 10 grams. Silver also went lower by Rs 300 to Rs 67,611 per kilogram from Rs 67,911 per kilogram in the previ- ous trade. In the international mar- ket, gold was trading low- er at USD 1,804 per ounce and silver was flat at USD 26.01 per ounce. AGENCY SHIMLA, JUL 12 Incessant and heavy showers on Monday wreaked havoc in several parts of Himachal Pradesh, includ- ing Dharmshala, Mcleodganj, Bhagsunag, Shahpur and parts of Shimla district. Many vehicles parked at Bhagsunag got washed away and buried in the muck as very heavy rain lashed high reaches. The water level of a rivlet rose above the danger mark at Chauntra area of Dharmshala flattening four to five shops on the bank of river. A portion of highway was also damaged by the flash flood and rising of water level. Reports of very heavy rain also poured in from Shahpur area of Kangra district and other places where loss of properties have been reported. Deputy commissioner Kangra Mr Nipun Jindal has issued an emergency alert warning people to take precautions as very heavy rainfall is to create a flood-like sit- uation in the district for next three to four days. He said that heavy rain and in- clement weather could snap the power, telephone and other com- munications services in next two days. State administration has ad- vised the tourists and local people against venturing out from their residence and hotels without veri- fying the condition of roads and flood situation. Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar, while launching this new single integrated emergency num- ber Haryana 112 for police, fire and ambulance emergencies at Panchkula, said that from tomor- row any person in distress will need to call only 112 which will immediately direct his call to con- cerned department ensuring the re- quired help within a time span of 15-20 minutes only. Expressing happiness over the launch of the system, the Chief Minister said that the new Emer- gency Response Support System (ERSS) is certainly a historic step taken towards empowering the cit- izens of Haryana with round-the- clock Police assistance. This was for the second consecutive year and the second time in the history of the 12th- century shrine that the annual mega-festival, considered one of the biggest religious events in the country, was held sans devotees. The entire 3-km stretch of the Grand Road in front of the temple wore a deserted look as only some selected priests and police personnel were allowed to participate in the festival. Only those servitors, po- lice personnel and officials who have tested negative for COVID-19 have been allowed to take part in the festival, Puri Collector Samarth Verma said. Gatherings on streets or rooftops have been prohibited. The curfew has been imposed in the interest of public health, he said. The elaborate rituals started from Sunday night and the sibling deities, Lord Balabhadra, Devi Subhadra and Lord Jagannath, along with Lord Sudarshan, were carried to their re- spective chariots in a step-by-step procession called 'Pahandi'. Ten people died due to lightning in Uttar Pradesh's Kaushambi, Fatehpur and Firozabad districts on Sun- day, officials said. Prime Minister Naren- dra Modi expressed pain at the loss of lives in various parts of the country due to light- ning and announced an ex-gratia of Rs 2 lakh each to the next of kin of the de- ceased. In a tweet quoting Modi, the PMO said, "Saddened by the loss of lives due to lightning in parts of Madhya Pradesh. The State Government will provide all possible assistance to the affected. From the PMN- RF, Rs. 2 lakh would be given to the next of kin of the deceased and Rs. 50,000 would be given to the injured: PM Modi." Corona recovery rate 98.55 pc in Karnal R R SHELLY KARNAL: For the last several days, the spread of corona infection in the district has been under control. On Monday, 1 new positive case of Corona was found while 5 people were cured. Deputy Commissioner Nishant Kumar Yadav said that according to the report of the Civil Surgeon, samples of 420692 persons have been taken so far in the district, out of which the reports of 380238 persons were negative. 1656 samples were taken in the last 24 hours. So far 39930 positive cases have been reported in the district, out of which 39353 patients have recovered and gone back home. He informed that the district's positivity rate is 7.48 per cent while recovery rate is 98.55 per cent and death rate is 1.37 per cent. Along with this, 1 case of co- rona infection was reported in the dis- trict on Monday. There was no death due to corona infection in the district to- day. So far 547 corona positive patients have died in the district. There are 30 active cases of coronavirus in the dis- trict. DC said that all citizens should fol- low the rules of lockdown and stay at home and should not panic.
Online Paper bag competition held in Doon Public School
RAVI KUMAR BABAIN: Online paper bag competition was organized in Doon Public School. School Principal Dr. Anita Sharma told that the main objective of the competi- tion was to develop artistic talent among the children and motivate them to use paper bags. In the competition, children from class I to VIII displayed their handicraft by making paper bags and they made beautiful paper bags one after the other. Along with this, chil- dren supported the use of paper bags and highlighted the ill-effects of plastic bags. Counterfeit notes racket busted RANVIR PARASHAR KAITHAL: Under the guidance of SP Lokendra Singh, the criminals indulging in various types of illegal acts were constantly being monitored by the police, in the late evening while exposing the racket running counterfeit currency notes by the CIA-II police. 3 accused were arrested. Five counterfeit currency notes of two thousand rupees each have been re- covered from their possession. The three accused were roaming around in the evening with the intention of making purchases through fake notes on shopkeepers and contract liquor, taking advantage of the darkness. The three accused will be produced in the court and the police remand will be obtained from the court for comprehensive interrogation in- cluding the arrest of the remaining members of the gang.

This book showcases the extraor- dinary and gallant work by officers and men of Haryana Police during the past 16 months of Covid pandemic, and pay tribute to the 49 police mar- tyrs who succumbed to the pandemic, after having been infected during the course of their duty, through pictures. The book specially features the ‘Karamveers’ of the Police depart- ment - those officers and men who have made extraordinary efforts be- yond the call of duty, in enforcing the lockdown, providing assistance to the public or making them aware of COVID-19 safety measures in the past 16 months.
On this occasion, Chief Minister Sh. Manohar Lal said that the dedica- tion, hard work, and resilience dis- played by the Haryana Police and its leadership during this challenging pe- riod is commendable. The Police not only performed capably in various tasks aimed at controlling the pan- demic but also handled the additional challenge of various law and order sit- uations in the state.

Director fishery inspects hatchery

Haryana Director of Fisheries Department, Prem Singh Malik inspected the projects RAS and hatchery of Sultan Singh and Global RAS Nisha Rani and Panchayati pond project of Sad- hir village under the Pradhan Mantri Matsya Sampada Yojna. During this, District Fisheries Officer Shakuntala Devi was also present with him. Director Prem Singh said that RAS is very important to provide protein rich diet to the growing pop- ulation in which intensive fish farming is done. He informed that the Pradhan Mantri Matsya Sampada Yojana is being im- plemented in the district since last year. Like last year, this year also, ponds will be dug in about 20 hectares under this scheme and assistance will also be given for the dosage of fer- tilizers.
Under this scheme, applicants can get financial and tech- nical assistance from the department for setting up fish feed hatchery, biafalac, RAS, feed mill, cold store etc. in private land or by taking land on lease.
Under the Pradhan Mantri Matsya Sampada Yojana Scheme, 40 percent financial assistance is provided to the gen- eral caste applicants and 60 percent to the scheduled caste/fe- male applicants on all the projects. He informed that the Scheduled Caste Welfare Scheme is being run by the depart- ment of the Scheduled Castes.
Corona restrictions extended till July 19: DC PARDEEP MEHTA PANIPAT, JULY 12
Sushil Sarwan, Deputy Commissioner and Chairman, District Disaster Management Authority said that the pe- riod of Haryana Epidemic Alert-Safe Haryana has been extended till 5 am on July 19-2021. In view of this, new instructions have been issued by the district administra- tion. Anganwadi centres and creches running under the Department of Women and Child Development will re- main closed till July 31. Giving information, he said that permission has been given to open university campuses for research scholars, practical classes in laboratories and remedial classes/doubt classes, but for this, necessary so- cial distancing, regular sanitization and rules of Kovid-19 in universities. will have to be obeyed. He said that ac- cording to the new instructions, permission has now been given to open all the shops in the district from 9 am to 8 pm. Also, following the rules of Covid-19, malls can also be opened from 10 am to 8 pm. Restaurants, bars (locat- ed in hotels or malls) are allowed to open from 10 am to 10 pm with 50 per cent seating capacity, but will have to ensure compliance with the COVID guidelines. Home delivery from hotels, restaurants and fast food establish- ments will be allowed till 10 pm. Religious places locat- ed in the district can open with the presence of 50 people at a time and during the said period, proper social dis- tancing, use of masks and other health safety standards will have to be taken care of.

MP Sanjay Bhatia informed that special ef- forts are being made for the supply of drink- ing water in the state. For this, not only is the attention being paid to adequate availability of canal wa- ter, but work is also being done at a fast pace to reach every house- hold through tap water. Eight dis- tricts of Haryana have been fully covered under Nal Se Jal Yojana’ and soon Haryana will be the first state in the country to cover all the districts. Under Atal Bhujal Yojana, meters will be installed in 1,669 villages of Haryana to record the level of ground water and plans for full utilization of water will be prepared.
He said that the Haryana Government at the Center has been appreciated for the speedy work being done to achieve the target of providing functional household tap con- nections to all the families under the 'Jal Jee- van Mission'. Under this scheme, Rs 1,119.95 crore has been sanctioned for Haryana by the Central Government. It is noteworthy that Haryana is included in the first three states of
the country in the successful implementation of Jal Jeevan Mission.
The MP said that water is an important re- source of life. Life cannot be imagined with- out it, don't waste it. In the last few decades,
there has been indiscrimi- nate exploitation of under- ground water, due to which the water crisis has arisen on the earth.
According to a report by NITI Aayog, the water crisis will get worse by 2030. Delhi, Chennai, Ben- galuru and Hyderabad have the biggest problem of drinking water in India. Drinking water is being available in ration card in Cape Town. He also in-
formed that the Chief Minister, Manohar Lal, meeting with the Union Minister of Jal Shak- ti on the issue of water, directed towards pro- viding drinking water and sewerage facility at the rate of 130 liters per person instead of 55 liters in 130 villages under Mahagram Yojana. A proposal has been made to the Central Gov- ernment to provide a total of Rs 3,250 crore at the rate of Rs 25 crore for each Mahagram in the state, he said.

Under the Smart City Mission, 3,300 plants of a special species have been planted in vertical garden being set up in the foreground of Mini Secretariat to enhance building’s aesthetics.
Karnal Smart City Limited has worked on many projects considering the present nature of the city and the lifestyle of the people liv- ing in it. One of these is the Green Wall or Vertical Garden. Although this project will be adopted in many buildings of the city to make them aesthetic, but its first example can be seen at the entrance of the Mini Secretariat, which is almost ready. Deputy Commissioner and CEO of KSCL Nishant Kumar Yadav gave this information on Monday.
The Deputy Commissioner said that Ver- tical Garden or Green Gate have been con- structed both inside the building and outside the buildings. The maximum potential of an area can be utilized by applying this tech- nique. Along with beauty, it is beneficial for the environment and human health. At pres- ent, it has been implemented on Mini Secre-
tariat building under Smart City Mission, but this project is proposed to be replicated on Dr. Mangalsen Auditorium and new building of Municipal Corporation. He said that the green wall built on the exterior of the building pro- tects it from the direct heat of the sun, which reduces the energy consumption during sum- mer and also reduces the temperature inside the building and its green view gives peace to the heart and mind.
The Deputy Commissioner while explain- ing the construction, said that for this project, 3300 plants have been planted in small pots made of fibre with the help of a technique tak- ing 95 square meters of space in the front of the mini secretariat.

Disclosing this here today, Chairman-cum- Managing Director (CMD) Punjab State Power Corporation Limited A Venu Prasad said that all industrial consumers in districts falling in cen- tral and border zones have been al- lowed to operate at full capacity from today. Only the Continuous Process Industries including Textile, Chemicals, and Spinning Mills, which undertake round the clock op- erations would now be required to follow restrictions as applied earlier. He said that these guidelines would be reviewed once again after three days to take fresh decision. It may be recalled that owing to unprecedent-
ed rise in demand of power, the PSP- CL had as a temporary measure or- dered restrictions on Industrial con- sumers of the State in order to pro- vide continuous power supply to Domestic consumers and 8 hours power supply to the Agriculture sec- tor for paddy operations.
Continous process industries, as of now, have been asked to operate at 50% of continuous process load, a department spokesperson said. The department, despite high de-
mand for consumption had not im- posed any restrictions on small and medium supply industrial con- sumers, rice shellers, cattle feed units, call centres, mushroom farms, food processing units and other es- sential Industries/services from the beginning, the spokesperson further revealed. Punjab has 99,834 small power industrial consumers besides 30,176 medium power consumers upon whom no usage restriction has been levied at all despite rising de-
mand for power across domestic sector. To meet up demand supply, large supply consumers (5071 in number) which use 1000 KVA SCD had been asked to use 100 KVA for 12 hours a day. Large supply arc fur- naces of which 282 operate in state, had been restricted to 5% of SCD only. The spokesperson said that de- spite the failure of TSPL Plant, PSP- CL had successfully met highest ever energy demand of 3066 lakh units on July 1.

Nearby shopkeepers brought the fire under control in time, due to which major damage was averted. People told that the electric wires caught fire in the market at 10.30 pm. Two drug peddlers arrested in Baramulla BARAMULLA: Two drug peddlers were arrested and brown sugar and poppy straw recovered in this north Kashmir. A police spokesman said on Monday that a police party arrested a drug peddler identified as Arshed Ahmad Mangral, resident of Uri near a petrol pump at Sheeri on Srinagar-Baramulla highway. He said six grams were recovered from his possession. He said another drug peddler identified as Zahoor Ahmad Lone, a local resident was arrested at Behrampur, Baramulla after one kg and 700 grams of poppy straw like substance were recovered from his possession. Govt initiated several schemes to empower women, girl child: CM

Presiding over a meeting of Saksham Gudiya Board here today, Chief Minister Jai Ram Thakur stressed the need for creating awareness amongst the girls about their rights besides socio-economic empowerment. He said that Government was committed for safe and secure environment for women and girls in the State. He also felt the need for taking strict action against the teachers involved in abuse of the students. Chief Minister said the Saksham Gudiya Board was constituted in the year 2018 with an objective to ensure empowerment of women and girls, making recommendations on Acts, Rules, Policy and Programmes related to safety and security of the girl child. He said that the Board also aims to review implementation of various programmes being run by departments for upliftment and empowerment of the girl child in the State. He said that Board also envisages to make recommendations for qualitative improvement in health and nutritional aspects of girl child. Scheme has been launched which provides Rs. 31,000 as grant to girls from BPL families at the time of marriage. He said that Government has also launched Swaran Jayanti Naari Sambal Yojna to provide social security cover to eligible elderly women in the age group of 65-69 years. He said that social security pension of Rs. 1000 per month was being provided to over 60,000 elderly women of this age group. Chief Minister said that as the government came into power Gudiya Helpline was launched to provide immediate assistance to girls at the time of distress. He said that about 6400 complaints were received on this helpline. He said that the main objective of the State Government was to provide a fearless and best environment to the girl child so
that they could excel in the desired field. He said that the Board must also come forward to give its suggestions regarding steps to be taken to ensure safety and security of the women and girls. Jai Ram Thakur said that the State Government was committed to strengthen the Board. He said that regular meetings of the Board must be held to monitor the schemes initiated for the upliftment of women and girl child. He said that special awareness campaign must be launched to sensitize the masses about the safety and security of women. Special Justice and Empowerment Minister Sarveen Chaudhary said that the main objective of this board was to ensure security and safety of the women and girls. She said that it was
unfortunate that several cases of sexual harassment were being reported from different parts of the State. She also detailed various welfare schemes launched by the Department for empowerment of the women and girls on the occasion. Due to which Seema Biswa is practicing these days in Solan, Himachal Pradesh. Seema's main purpose of practicing in Solan is to get relief from the hot weather. Seema told that it is very hot in Haryana, the weather of Solan is cool and suitable for her practice. According to Seema Bisla, he got inspiration for wrestling from his father and uncle. Earlier in Haryana, she used to fight riots, but now with the support of her family, she will participate in the Olympics which is going to be held in Tokyo. He said that the
climate of Solan is very clear ,cool and the weather here is favorable, if the players here get facilities like Haryana, then they can also bring laurels to the country. Indian player Seema Bisla, who is going to participate in the Olympics, told that her eyes are on gold, for which she is sweating in Solan. Rural Development, Panchayati Raj, Agriculture, Fisheries and Animal Husbandry Minister Virendra Kanwar today laid the foundation stones of projects worth Rs 30 lakh at Kyriyan of Palata Gram Panchayat, up-gradation of Panchayat Community Center at Kyriyan at a cost of Rs. 11 lakh, Panchayat Training Center to be built at a cost of Rs. 5 lakh, Lok Mitra Center to be constructed at a cost of Rs. 4 lakh, in Palhata at a cost of Rs. 5 lakh. He laid the foundation stone of additional rooms to be constructed at a cost of Rs. On this occasion, Kanwar said that Government Primary School Kyriyan would be made a model. In addition to the rooms to be constructed with Rs 5 lakh, he announced Rs 15 lakh to the school. He also
said that Rs 23 lakh would be spent on the construction of Panchayat Bhawan, in which guest room facility would also be available. A massive tree plantation drive will soon be launched to make Punjab green and clean. This will be part of the Rs 5,466.82-crore Green Punjab Mission for the current fiscal 2021- 22 approved here on Monday.
The approval was granted at the meeting of the Steering Committee of Green Punjab Mission, chaired by the Chief Secretary, Ms Vini Ma- hajan. The Chief Secretary asked the Forests department to plan free distribution of 25 lakh plants to the public to involve the people in the mission to increase green cover in the state.
The Chief Secretary also direct- ed the Forests department to create 101 new bagichis (nurseries) after the name of first Sikh Guru Nanak Dev ji in urban areas, 128 pavittar van (forest areas) after the name of ninth Sikh master Guru Tegh Ba- hadur ji on the panchayat and forest lands in the state’s hinterland, and 12 forest and nature awareness
parks during this financial year. Re- ferring to the revamped Mission Tandrust Punjab launched by the Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh on the World Environment Day, the Chief Secretary said Green Punjab Mission was one of the most important sub-missions to achieve the objective of health and well-be- ing of the citizens of Punjab by mit- igating the effects of impending cli- mate change. “All the plantation ac- tivities must be completed in the current monsoon season with the maximum involvement and support of people, communities and various stakeholders,” she asked. apprised the Chief Secretary that the department had planted one lakh tall trees last year in collaboration with the NHAI and this year also, efforts were being made to plant one lakh more trees on 5 different stretches of highways passing through Punjab. It was also informed that Mata Amrita Devi Bishnoi Memorial in Abohar was completed at a cost of Rs 3.15 crore and opened to the public. In another greening project, Green In- dia Mission, which specially target- ed Kandi and Shiwalik foothills in the state, assisted natural regenera- tion works in 2375 hectares of area spread across Mohali, Ropar, Nawanshahr and Hoshiarpur will be
carried out to increase the green cover in the Shiwalik foothills. In order to improve the income status of local communities putting up in Shiwalik foothills, a sum of Rs 1 crore has been earmarked for in- come generating activities such as skill development training of local youth so that their livelihoods can be improved. MCM holds online workshop on compost CHANDIGARH: Swachhta Committee (Arts) of Mehr Chand Mahajan DAV College for Women, in collaboration with MCM Eco Club, organised an online workshop on the topic ‘How Food Residue can be turned to Compost’. Organised as a part of the 75-week long celebration of Bharat Ka Amrut Mahotsav, the workshop had Mrs. Saranjeet Kaur, Eco Club Incharge, Bhavan Vidyalaya Junior, Chandigarh as the resource person. The workshop received enthusiastic response as staff and students joined in to gain knowledge regarding compost making. Mrs. Saranjeet shed light on the step by step process of making compost at home including pit making, layering the pit and also highlighted the things that should not be put in these pits like onion peels or anything citrus. Throughout her informative lecture, Mrs. Saranjeet reminded the participants of their responsibility towards the environment and advocated adoption of sustainable practices in everyday life. The workshop was well received by the participants, whose queries were suitably answered by the expert. Principal Dr. Nisha Bhargava lauded the efforts of the college's Swachhta Committee and Eco Club for promotion of sustainable practices. She informed that MCM is an environmentally conscious institution and its initiatives like compost making, vermicomposting, biogas production from mess food waste, installation of sewage treatment plant, rain water harvesting.
