Union School Marching Band accompanied by a cadre of youthful baton twirlers. Makala Perkins rode her pony and John Gordon drove his powered parachute. Numerous groups, floats, politicians and emergency vehicles contributed to a nice parade. Harold Puffer and his family rode on a 1938 fire engine. Chicken pie and all the trimings was served to 800 people by the Community Club. A Hymn Sing at the Methodist Church ended the celebration for the day. olors were brilliant in and around Groton on Fall Foliage Day, October 7th. A large crowd enjoyed the day visiting with old friends and meeting new ones. The day started with the Lumberman’s Breakfast at the United Methodist Church where 350 hungry leaf peepers” were fed. Local people displayed their crafts and wares at many places along main street for visitors to peruse and purchase. The Historical Society had Open House all day and entertained visitors with pictures and information about Groton. Nathan Puffer and his crew of volunteers demonstrated Timber Frame Construction with hand tools from 10AM to 5PM. They ended the demonstration with the erection of the timber frame for a future blacksmith shop at Russell Butler’s next door to the Historical Society. Russell plans to demonstrate blacksmithing next year during fall foliage day. McLure’s Alumni Band played a concert at the Band Stand before the parade and Dan Gandin’s Galusha Hill Gang played after the parade.
