CARROLL COSLOW Carroll Birchell Co- slow, 71, died Wednesday, June 27, 2012 in Denver, Colo. Born Nov. 15, 1940 in Wil- lisburg, he was the son of the late Calvin Turner and Nellie James Peavler Coslow. He was a 1958 graduate of Harrodsburg High School, A 1962 graduate of the Univer- sity of Kentucky and a graduate of the University of Kentucky School of Law in 1970. He was a Lt. Col. in the Air Force, senior navigator and assistant Judge Advocate. He was a member of the Harrodsburg Historical So- ciety, a lifetime member of the Kentucky Genealogical Society, a Kentucky Colonel and a pri- vate pilot. He is survived by one neph- ew, Kenneth Wayne Sallee of Lexington. He was preceded in death by an infant brother, Kenneth Ger- ald Coslow and a sister, Violet Gayle Coslow Sallee. Born Sept. 11, 1930 in Milwaukee, Wis., she was the daughter of Joseph G. and Kath- erine L. (Schneider) Struve. She married Hubert E. Sircy, Jr. on June 17, 1950, a marriage that lasted until his death in 2004 and that produced seven chil- dren. While excelling in her role as wife and mother, Pat lived a life dedicated to things spiritual, educational, creative and com- munity-focused. She was an active member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Libertyville, Ill. for 25 years and St. Andrew Catholic Church in Harrodsburg for 33 years, serving on the building com- mittee that oversaw the comple- tion of the current St. Andrew complex. Pat had a deep, abid- ing faith in God that she shared freely with her family and all in the community with whom she came in contact. Education was important to Pat, who attended the Universi- ty of Wisconsin at Madison and Lake Forest College in Lake Forest, Ill. She was active in PTA for the thirty-four years her children were in primary and secondary school, and was a driving force behind the Mercer County Senior High Academic Excellence Committee. In ev- erything from the varied books she read to her ability to solve the most difficult crossword puzzles, she instilled in her chil- dren and grandchildren a love for learning that has endured to this day. Pat’s creative ability was manifest in a number of pur- suits. She invented an eye glass repair device that was featured on QVC, aptly named “Nu- Screw”, which replaced the screws which frequently fall out of a pair of glasses. She served as CEO of Sir-C, the firm that manufactured the Nu-Screw. Her skills in a variety of crafts were legendary; Pat excelled in knitting, crochet, sewing and upholstery, and added basket weaving and chair caning to her repertoire in recent years. She found a very personal out- let for her creativity by making unique Christmas ornaments for her children and grandchildren each year from 1975 through 2010. Photography was a fa- vorite pursuit, and Pat was an avid student and exemplar of the art, with two of her photos featured at the University of Kentucky Department of Archi- tecture. Appropriately, the two photographs were of the oldest and newest churches in Mercer County. She was a gifted art- ist in the medium of greeting cards, selling her horse-themed hand-crafted works nationally and having them featured at the Kentucky Horse Park in Lex- ington. As a calligraphy expert, Pat was called upon to prepare many wedding invitations and lettering for other important documents. Not stopping with the use of her hands, Pat re- corded several children’s stories on tape that were distributed re- gionally. Moving to the farm in Har- rodsburg was the fulfillment of a lifelong dream of Pat and Ju- nior, who shared a love of hors- es. It was there that they raised fifteen Thoroughbreds and Ara- bians. She was an expert Eng- lish rider, so much so that she gave lessons when the family was in Libertyville. Pat loved to see things grow, so one year she dedicated a portion of the farm to raise bell peppers, and in so doing she became the primary source of this vegetable for vari- ous outlets in Mercer County. Pat was incredibly active in her community. She was a member of the Countryside Manor Women’s Club in Liber- tyville. When the family moved to Harrodsburg, she volunteered at the Red Cross Blood Bank and served as the President of the Haggin Memorial Hospital Auxiliary for two of her four- teen years of service to the Aux- iliary. As the Haggin Memorial Hospital Gift Shop Manager for thirteen years, Pat oversaw a major remodel and moderniza- tion of the gift shop. Her love for the community caused her to get involved in the Mercer County Fair, serving in the Sec- retary’s office for twenty-nine years. She loved Harrodsburg and wanted all newcomers to feel welcome, which made her a natural in working with Wel- come Wagon for many years. She also enjoyed her stint as a “food sample” lady at the local Gateway Supermarket. Pat’s community focus in- cluded a desire to get involved in the political process. She was elected as a delegate to the Republican State Convention, and served for twenty years as an Election Sheriff for the poll- ing station on Bohon Road just down from the farm. Pat leaves behind two daughters, Kathi Sircy (David Wright) of Des Moines, Iowa and Karen Sircy, of Norfolk, Va.; five sons, Joseph of Cary, Ill., James of LaTuna Canyon, Calif., John (Debbie) of Pa- ducah, Jay (Tina) of LaTuna Canyon, Calif. and Justin of Burbank, Calif.; one brother, William Struve (Lacey Ann) of Wilmington, N.C.; 13 grand- children; Judd, Jacob, Jonathan (Britt), Elisha (Rachel), Asher and Kayla Sircy; Kendra (Eric) Stone, Khyl (Ryan) Berndt, Kaitlyn, Briana, Arthur Wright, Bo (Samantha) Stephenson, and Roni Rae (Chris) Foy and seven great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her brother, Joseph G. Struve. The family would like to ex- tend special thanks for the love and care given to our mother by Billy and Shirley Taylor, Raul and Kathy Ledesma, Joann Martin, Judy Joyce, Noreta Royalty, Dr. Richard Dartt and the people of Harrodsburg who have shared her life here for 33 years. Survivors include: a son, James Edward Taylor of Har- rodsburg; five sisters: Irma Ryan of Indianapolis, Ind., Fay Latham of Greenwood, Ind., Frances McQuery of Liberty, Brenda Weddle of Franklin, Ind. and Patsy Elmore of Liberty. While excelling in her role as wife and mother, Pat lived a life dedicated to things spiritual, educational, creative and com-munity-focused.

She was an active member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Libertyville, Ill. for 25 years and St. Andrew Catholic Church in Harrodsburg for 33 years, serving on the building com-mittee that oversaw the comple-tion of the current St. Andrew complex. Pat had a deep, abid-ing faith in God that she shared freely with her family and all in the community with whom she came in contact.

Education was important to Pat, who attended the Universi-ty of Wisconsin at Madison and Lake Forest College in Lake Forest, Ill. She was active in PTA for the thirty-four years her children were in primary and secondary school, and was a driving force behind the Mercer County Senior High Academic Excellence Committee. In ev-erything from the varied books she read to her ability to solve the most difficult crossword puzzles, she instilled in her chil-dren and grandchildren a love for learning that has endured to this day.

Pat’s creative ability was manifest in a number of pur-suits. She invented an eye glass repair device that was featured on QVC, aptly named “Nu-Screw”, which replaced the screws which frequently fall out of a pair of glasses. She served as CEO of Sir-C, the firm that manufactured the Nu-Screw. Her skills in a variety of crafts were legendary; Pat excelled in knitting, crochet, sewing and upholstery, and added basket weaving and chair caning to her repertoire in recent years. She found a very personal out-let for her creativity by making unique Christmas ornaments for her children and grandchildren each year from 1975 through 2010. Photography was a fa-vorite pursuit, and Pat was an avid student and exemplar of the art, with two of her photos featured at the University of Kentucky Department of Archi-tecture. Appropriately, the two photographs were of the oldest and newest churches in Mercer County. She was a gifted art-ist in the medium of greeting cards, selling her horse-themed hand-crafted works nationally and having them featured at the Kentucky Horse Park in Lex-ington. As a calligraphy expert, Pat was called upon to prepare many wedding invitations and lettering for other important documents. Not stopping with the use of her hands, Pat re-corded several children’s stories on tape that were distributed re-gionally.

Moving to the farm in Har-rodsburg was the fulfillment of a lifelong dream of Pat and Ju-nior, who shared a love of hors-es. It was there that they raised fifteen Thoroughbreds and Ara-bians. She was an expert Eng-lish rider, so much so that she gave lessons when the family was in Libertyville. Pat loved to see things grow, so one year she dedicated a portion of the farm to raise bell peppers, and in so doing she became the primary source of this vegetable for vari-ous outlets in Mercer County.

Pat was incredibly active in her community. She was a member of the Countryside Manor Women’s Club in Liber-tyville. When the family moved to Harrodsburg, she volunteered at the Red Cross Blood Bank and served as the President of the Haggin Memorial Hospital Auxiliary for two of her four-teen years of service to the Aux-iliary. As the Haggin Memorial Hospital Gift Shop Manager for thirteen years, Pat oversaw a major remodel and moderniza-tion of the gift shop. Her love for the community caused her to get involved in the Mercer County Fair, serving in the Sec-retary’s office for twenty-nine years. She loved Harrodsburg and wanted all newcomers to feel welcome, which made her a natural in working with Wel-come Wagon for many years. She also enjoyed her stint as a “food sample” lady at the local Gateway Supermarket.

Pat’s community focus in-cluded a desire to get involved in the political process. She

was elected as a delegate to the Republican State Convention, and served for twenty years as an Election Sheriff for the poll-ing station on Bohon Road just down from the farm.

Pat leaves behind two daughters, Kathi Sircy (David Wright) of Des Moines, Iowa and Karen Sircy, of Norfolk, Va.; five sons, Joseph of Cary, Ill., James of LaTuna Canyon, Calif., John (Debbie) of Pa-ducah, Jay (Tina) of LaTuna Canyon, Calif. and Justin of Burbank, Calif.; one brother, William Struve (Lacey Ann) of Wilmington, N.C.; 13 grand-children; Judd, Jacob, Jonathan (Britt), Elisha (Rachel), Asher and Kayla Sircy; Kendra (Eric) Stone, Khyl (Ryan) Berndt, Kaitlyn, Briana, Arthur Wright, Bo (Samantha) Stephenson, and Roni Rae (Chris) Foy and seven great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her brother, Joseph G. Struve.

The family would like to ex-tend special thanks for the love and care given to our mother by Billy and Shirley Taylor, Raul and Kathy Ledesma, Joann Martin, Judy Joyce, Noreta Royalty, Dr. Richard Dartt and the people of Harrodsburg who have shared her life here for 33 years.

Services will be at St. An-drew Catholic Church, with visitation on July 7, 2012 from 9 to 10:30 a.m. and the funeral Mass will follow at 11 a.m.

HAZEL TAYLORHazel Deloris Taylor, 69, of

Harrodsburg, widow of James Thomas “Tommy” Taylor, died Tuesday, June 26, 2012, at her residence.

Born Feb. 17, 1943 in Lib-erty, she was the daughter of the late John and Ruth Mae (Peck) Miller. She was raised by Willie Crawley. She was retired from Mercer Dress Company and worked at Wal-Mart.

Survivors include: a son, James Edward Taylor of Har-rodsburg; five sisters: Irma Ryan of Indianapolis, Ind., Fay Latham of Greenwood, Ind., Frances McQuery of Liberty, Brenda Weddle of Franklin, Ind. and Patsy Elmore of Liberty.

She was preceded in death by a brother and sister: Ron-nie Crawley and Annetta Rose Crawley.

Funeral services were held Friday, June 29 at the Ransdell Funeral Chapel with Henry Johnson officiating. Burial was in the Spring Hill Cemetery. Pallbearers were: Con Baker, Bruce Bowman, Stuart Holt, Larry Molnar, Bruce Latham, Aaron Uhrig and Stephen Burb-erry.

BUDDY YEAGERBuddy Yeager, 73, of Har-

rodsburg, husband of Nancy Lillian Brown Yeager, died Thursday, June 27, 2012, at Saint Joseph Hospital in Lex-ington.

Born Feb. 1, 1939 in Wash-ington County, he was the son of Marshall “Fish” and Flora Robinson Yeager. He was a re-tired supervisor from Eaton and Signet companies.

Survivors in addition to his wife include a daughter, Tammy (Mark) Doughty; three sons, Jimmy “Yogi” (Lisa) Yeager, Billy (Ann) Yeager and Gary (Nancy) Yeager, all of Harrods-burg; one sister, Myrtie (Frank) Henry of Louisville, 12 grand-children and nine great-grand-children.

Funeral services were held Saturday, June 30 at the Rans-dell Funeral Chapel with Lewis Walters and Caleb Penwell of-ficiating. Burial was in the Spring Hill Cemetery. Pall-bearers were: Buddy Yeager, Derrick Doughty, Matthew Yeager, Andrew Yeager, Trey Yeager, Brandon Sutton, Justin Ellis, Tanner Powell, and Jo-seph Brown.

Honorary bearers were: Co-rey Yeager, Jessica Doughty, Nickie Bailey, Danni Sutton, Staci Brown, Angelia Doughty, Jessica Powell, Megan Ellis, Amanda Yeager, Connie Gillis, Jimmy Sexton, Roger Dotson, Tony Warner, Charles W. Sims, and Elwood Byrd.
