Franklin Township receives a Safety and Loss Control Awardfor their commitment to safety

Statewide Insurance Fund Chairman, Thomas S. Russo Jr. presented Franklin Township(Hunterdon) with a plaque recognizing their commitment to safety throughout 2014.

The presentation was held at the Statewide Insurance Fund’s annual re-organizationmeeting on February 5, 2015, at the Olde Mill Inn in Basking Ridge. Fund Chairman Russo noted “The core mission of Statewide is to provide affordable,

comprehensive insurance coverage to NJ public entities. This mission is achievable by eachmember’s participation in Statewide’s safety and risk management programs, which aretailored specifically for the public sector. Insurance claim costs are the single largestexpense of providing insurance coverage. A reduction in claims through a commitment tosafety results in savings for all Statewide Fund members. This savings provides public entities budget relief which is moreimportant today than ever before. Thank you for your commitment.” The Fund was formed in 1994 to address the insurance crisis that was facing public entities. Their insurance coverages were

becoming restrictive and their insurance premiums were escalating out of control.

Today, the Fund has 86 membersthroughout the State and provides property, liability and workers’ compensation coverage to its membersContacts: Additional information Franklin Township (Hunterdon) • (908) 735-5215 Additional information on Statewide Insurance Fund: Caroline Conboy, Fund Administrator www.swfund.com • Email: [email protected]

Did you know that Franklin is one of only 137New Jersey towns that are Sustainable

Jersey certified? Franklin achieved SustainableJersey certification at the bronze level inprogram year 2014.

Across New Jersey, hundreds of townsare now working on sustainabilityprograms to help the environment andtheir bottom lines. Efforts to curb carbonemissions, protect natural resources and reducewaste are happening at the local level. Through thevoluntary program, communities are implementing solar power and windturbine projects, rain capture and reuse efforts, new walking and bikingprograms, building and operating community food gardens, launching communityoutreach programs on recycling and energy, and dozens of other initiatives.

To become Sustainable Jersey certified, Franklin, led by the Township’sEnvironmental Commission, had to complete a rigorous program ofsustainability actions. In addition, Franklin created a green team and did 4priority actions by completing an 1) energy tracking & management of themunicipal buildings, 2) inventory & energy upgrade all municipal buildings, 3)sustainable land use pledge, and 4) natural resource inventory. This informationis available to Township residents.

To get involved with Franklin’s Environmental Commission and sustainabilityinitiatives, contact Diane Burgess ([email protected]) or the TownshipOffice (908-735-5215, [email protected]).
