PHOTODESIGNDescription: Design focused on bettering my understanding of photography and Photoshop basics.

Date: October 17, 2015

Course: Comm 130 Section 6Ben Pingel

Programs/Tools: Photoshop

Objectives:Gain basic photography skillsAdjust levels, saturation, color balance, sharpen tool on imageDesign text using graphic elements

Process:The first thing I did was take my picture. I decided that the type of picture I wanted to take was one that was based on focusing the foreground. I used my Canon Rebel t2i for this. After deciding on a photo to use, I chose my color scheme – split complementary. My photo had red, green, and yellow in it which did not work for split complementary, so I used the selective color tool on Photoshop to change my red to violet. After finalizing my color scheme, I decided on what words I wanted to put on my design that could somewhat relate to my picture. Finally, I decided on right aligning everything and chose a font that worked best. Lastly, I chose to make the words, “kindness,” and, “judgement,” stand out more than the other words. I put the finishing touches such as my color swatch and green lines on the design and finally finished.

MONTAGEDescription:This design focused around the spirit using two different photos on Photoshop.

Date:October 24, 2015

Course:Comm 130 Section 6Ben Pingel

Programs/Tools:Photoshop

Objectives:Blend two or more images together using the masking tool on PhotoshopApply filter to one part of image using maskUnify with spiritual message

Process:First, I chose my two photos and made sure that they would not overpower one another. Then, I uploaded both photos to Photoshop, blended them together as well as I could, and turned up the levels on my family photo to make it pop more. Then I chose a quote based around family and pulled the colors I used for my larger words and lines from the family photo. I blurred out the smaller words a bit to make the larger words the main focus. Lastly, I blended together the legs of my family and mixed them with the trees so the difference in photos was not so obvious.

BUSINESS CARDDescription: Original new logo and stationery items for a specific company.

Date:October 2015

Course:Comm 130 Section 6Ben Pingel

Programs/Tools:IllustratorInDesign

Objectives:Create new logo to fit companyUse logo to design business card and letterheadUse basic InDesign and Illustrator skills

Process:First, I looked on Pinterest for some insipiration and to get some ideas flowing. I immediately had this idea for a bunch of polygons in similar colors and thought it looked really modern. I created that on Illustrator then stuck with the modern theme throughout my

font choice and business choice. I made up a business and name and was really happy with the final product of my business card.

LETTERHEADDescription: Original new logo and stationery items for a specific company.

Date:October 2015

Course:Comm 130 Section 6Ben Pingel

Programs/Tools:IllustratorInDesign

Objectives:Create new logo to fit companyUse logo to design business card and letterheadUse basic InDesign and Illustrator skills

Process:Making the letterhead was fairly simple. I just used repetition with the polygon design on my business card and added it onto the corner of my letterhead. Then, I made it transparent so that anythning that would later go on top of the page (body copy) would be perfectly visible. I continued with the repetition by adding the information from my business in the same font and color at the top corner.

Course:Comm 130 Section 6Ben Pingel

Programs/Tools:Adobe Illustrator

Objectives:Create three completely different logosRefine one logo with different variations of color

Process:First, I decided on a color scheme (analogous) and one color – teal. After that I tried to make my design send a message that my business is modern. I did this through modern looking fonts and triangles. Then, I finalized my design and created three different versions of it. The first was my original, the second was shades of black and white, and the last was one color and white.

EVENT ADDescription: Colored flier made for local company sponsoring benefit event made with Microsoft Word.

Date:October 10, 2015

Course:Comm 130 Section 6Ben Pingel

Programs/Tools:Microsoft Word

Objectives:Learn to use Microsoft Word design featuresScan and import quality imageUse FOCUS principles to create original flier

Process:First, I decided on an image that I wanted to use from a magazine that I found on the kitchen counter of my apartment and scanned it onto my computer. The image focused mainly on fashion, so I decided that I wanted to incorporate fashion into my charity event somehow. Originally, I had a boring name for my event named “Music For Clothes” but then found a way to make the name fit my younger audience a little more and named it, “Rock For Rags.” I chose a color scheme and pulled as many colors as I could from my picture and loved how the colors turned out. Lastly, I chose a font, font color, and body copy plus added a few minor details to finish it entirely.
