Although I am creating and sending out this February newsletter, I'm thrilled to announce Joyce Rule has stepped up as our newsletter editor for future editions. It's also exciting that Carol Grismore is our new membership lead, and that Sandy Main is our Open Juried show lead. Thank you all for stepping up to continue PAL going strong! We are going to change some things up, so take note! We will no longer be making calls prior to each meeting to remind members about the meeting. Instead we will announce the meeting in our newsletter and also will be sending out a separate meeting reminder email. Also, there are many working PAL members who can't attend our meetings held during the day.We are going to explore having every other meeting at 7pm, in the hopes that it will allow other artists to participate in our organization as well. Please see the program schedule in the newsletter below as many meeting slots are now booked with great content, including a marketing session. Also be sure and send me information about your shows, and other news, so we can include it in our newsletter. Finally, we are securing the Lincoln Arts Center as our juried show venue, after much exploration of other venues. It has worked well for us in the past, and they are very eager to have us there. A Big Thank You to Pat Lucas for doing the newsletter for the past 10 years, and for all the great folks on our steering committee who have provided leadership for PAL for many years. Cheers, Gia McNutt PAL Steering Chairperson ___________________________________________________________________________ February 3rd PAL Meeting: Pastel Demo with Pat Aragon Our February 3rd meeting will be instructional and informative, with Pat Aragon providing a pastel demo. Pat has been an artist most her life, and works in oils and pastels. Pat is nationally known for her horse and dog portraits, but paints "anything Western!". The demo will be held at 10am on February 3rd at Auburn City Hall, 1225 Lincoln Way, Room 10. This room is on the top floor and there's even an elevator for those whose knees don't like stairs. There's plenty of parking at the back of the building. Pat has a studio and paints at the Newcastle Packing Shed Artists Studios and Gallery in historic Newcastle, where her art can be seen. She welcomes visitors! ________________________________________________________________________________________________ Member of the Month: Kris England Kris England began studying art at Placer HS with Toby and Mario, then art and art history at Santa Rosa Junior College. After a career in cardiology, Kris was diagnosed with MS in 2007 and began doing needlework as therapy. Kris moved to Newcastle in 2012 and became a member of PAL her mom, equine artist B.K. England, has been a member since 1977. Kris finds inspiration for her work through hiking and nature walks. "Besides needlework I enjoy working in collage, drawing and watercolor. My art has evolved from an exercise in physical therapy to a life fulfilled by creativity and gifting others with my work." _____________________________________________________________________________________________________________ News & Events Auburn Friends of the Library presents:Rudy Brown's Faces of Jazz Exhibition, January 1 February 28, 2015 Art Talk with Rudy: Faces of Jazz, an Art Odyssey, Friday, February 20, 12 Noon, Free Auburn Library, Beecher Room Gayle RappaportWeiland will be offering her "Create the Business of Art" marketing workshop at Sierra College, Thursday, February 5th, from 5:309:30pm.
