PALM SCHWENKFELDER CHURCH SUNDAY, AUGUST 5, 2018

Chimes Welcome and Announcements Prayer Prelude *Call to Worship

I beg you to lead a life worthy of the calling to which you have been called.

There is one Lord, one faith, one baptism, one God who is

above all and through all and in all.

Each of us was given grace according to the measure of Christ’s gift.

Speaking the truth in love, we must grow up in every way

into him who is the head.

Let us worship God!

*Hymn #259 “A Hymn of Glory Let Us Sing” Call to Confession Prayer of Confession

O God, our transgressions are many. We have sinned against

you, and done evil in your sight. We have wandered far from

your truth. You alone know the extent of our guilt. You are

justified to pass judgment and sentence us. We are crushed by

the wrong we have allowed and the good we have avoided. We

plead for mercy. Wash us thoroughly and cleanse us deep

within. Put a new and right spirit in us and restore to us the

joy of your salvation. Help us to lead lives worthy of your call

to us, in Jesus’ name. Amen.

Time of Personal Confession Assurance of Pardon Special Music “The Old Rugged Cross” Bill Ludlow Scripture Exodus 16:2 – 4, 9 – 15 (NRSV p. 55; LP p. 109 – 11)

Psalm 78:23 – 29 (NRSV p. 468 – 469; LP p. 914) Ephesians 4:1 – 16 (NRSV p. 951; LP p. 1831 – 1832)

John 6:24 – 35 (NRSV p. 867 – 868; LP p. 1668)

Children’s Sermon *Hymn #708 “Blest Be the Tie That Binds” Sermon Special Music “Where He Leads Me I Will Follow” Bill Ludlow Pastoral Prayer and the Lord’s Prayer

Our Father, who art in heaven,

hallowed be thy name.

Thy kingdom come,

thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven.

Give us this day our daily bread,

and forgive us our debts,

as we forgive our debtors.

And lead us not into temptation

but deliver us from evil:

For thine is the kingdom,

and the power, and the glory, forever. Amen.

Call to Offering Offertory *Doxology

Praise God, from whom all blessings flow;

Praise Him, all creatures here below;

Praise Him above, ye Heavenly Host;

Praise Father, Son and Holy Ghost. Amen.

*Prayer of Dedication

We dedicate our offerings, not alone for the good they can

accomplish and the mission they will support, but also because

giving helps us to gain perspective on what really matters. We

would stop working only for food that perishes, seeking for all

the food that endures for eternal life. May our lives and all we

give perform the works of God. Build us up in love for one

another and for all your children everywhere. Amen.

*Hymn #735 “One Race, One Gospel, One Task” *Benediction Postlude

August Youth Birthdays Happy Birthday to… Jovia Kinsler (8/13), Nicholas Pence (8/19), Briana Kratz (8/25), Job Kinsler (8/30). Happy 18th Birthday to Kaitlyn Mundy (8/22). VBS Thank You Thank you, youth leaders, volunteers, donors, and everyone who had a part in making this year’s Vacation Bible School a fun-filled and God-centered weekend. Children’s Church Children’s church is over for the season and will begin again in the Fall. Thank you to everyone who volunteered their time for Children’s Church and to everyone who donated snacks. We couldn’t keep this ministry going without you. Recycling Update It has been decided that we will continue to provide paper recycling here at Palm. As you may have noticed, though, our two paper recycling bins have been moved. This was done in an attempt to prevent paper from flying out of the bins and into the fields and cemetery, which unfortunately had been a rather frequent occurrence where they were previously located. Security System Update We are in the process of updating the building-access component of the church security system. The majority of the steps necessary for this upgrade have already been taken; however, in order for some people to retain their ability to gain access to the church, they will need to take an additional step. If you have a flat white security key-card, you will need to come to the church and swipe your key-card on the key reader. At that point Dan will be able to enter your key-card into the new system. If you do not swipe your key-card before the old system is deactivated, your key-card will no longer work. Please contact the office to come in and have your key-card updated. If you have a key-fob, you do not need to do anything.

A fully accessible restroom is located in the hallway, across from the office. A baby changing table is there, also.

There are greeting cards on the podium as you enter the sanctuary. Anyone is invited to sign – you don’t need to be a member of the congregation to add your name to the well wishes.

Donations of greeting cards to this project are welcomed and needed, especially Get Well and Sympathy cards. Please see Nancy Hoffman with your donations, or place them on the podium shelf.

Did You Also Know…? If you are away this summer, or any time, don't forget that the Church's expenses continue and that your financial support is still needed.
