From the proclamation of the Gospel at the beginning of the litur-gy, we know that today is different, not only because we hear two Gospel passages, or because we hold palms and process. Today begins Holy Week, a time set apart, a week in which to listen, pray, reflect, and take to heart the truth of Christ ’s passion, cruci-fixion, death, and ultimately, resurrection. It takes a week, and a lifetime, to truly hear the message of Christ ’s love. It is difficult for us to comprehend that Jesus willingly sacrificed himself, so we must hear the story again and again. Let this week be for us a new moment of faith in which we, together with the criminal who was crucified with Christ, cry out, Jesus, remember me when you come into your kingdom. JESUS ANNOUNCES GOD S KINGDOM OF LOVE Jesus had walked, healed, forgiven sins, performed miracles, and eaten with the people. His message was simple yet profound: in Christ, the kingdom of God is at hand. Jesus announced God ’s kingdom of love, teaching all who would listen. In God ’s king-dom, the greatest is as the youngest; the leader is the servant. Those who follow Jesus are called to wash feet, attend to the last and the least, show mercy to the sinner, and love enemies. Even in the hour of his passion, Jesus did not turn away from his mis-sion of love. He healed the ear of one who had come to arrest him, did not lash out at Pilate or Herod, consoled the women who wept, and forgave those who crucified him. He heard the cry of the criminal who called out to him from the cross, and promised him a place in Paradise. Jesus shows us that God ’s way is the way of love at all costs, even when it means giving more than we think appropriate or possible. WE SHARE CHRIST S MISSION Let us not be mistaken. Jesus mercy and forgiveness led him to the cross, and we who follow him will surely experience trial and be misunderstood in our determination to live as disciples. We will be called to make difficult decisions about the way we live our lives, serve others, give of our time and money, show pa-tience, and favor those who are poor and vulnerable. Friends may turn away, family members may question our commitment to Christ above all else. Jesus remained singularly focused on God ’s will. And so must we. Jesus gave without counting the cost, and so must we. In Christ, we also have a mission of love. We, too, are called to stay focused on God ’s will. In this, we will an-nounce God ’s kingdom and be assured of our place in it when Christ returns in glory. Holy Week Activities – 2019 Monday, April 15 7 pm Chrism Mass at St. Simon & Jude Cathedral.

Monday thru Wednesday: Adoration Chapel will be open normal times. The Adoration Chapel will be CLOSED Holy Thursday through Easter Sunday. It will reopen for Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament Monday, April 22 at 8:30 a.m. Thursday, April 18 7 PM. Holy Thursday Bi-Lingual Service Prior to the Opening Prayer of the Mass, the Holy Oils from

the Chrism Mass will be presented to the Parish. Mass of the Lord’s Supper. This service includes the Wash-

ing of the Feet, which is a representation of Christ washing the feet of the 12 Apostles at the Last Supper.

After the Prayer After Communion, the Most Blessed Sac-rament will be transferred to the Altar of Repose in McFad-den Hall. Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament will continue in the Hall from the end of Mass until Midnight. All mem-bers of the Parish are invited to spend some time with the Blessed Sacrament.

Friday, April 19 10am to 3 PM. Church is open for individual devotions. 3PM - Good Friday Service (English) in the Church.

This Service involves a Reading of the Passion, Veneration of the Cross, and Communion. It is not a Mass.

6 PM. Via Crusis (Multicultural Way of the Cross) 7 PM – Good Friday Service – Spanish. Again, there is a

reading of the Passion, Veneration of the Cross and Com-munion.

Saturday, April 20 8:00 PM- Easter Vigil Mass (Bi-Lingual Mass) This is the first official celebration of the Resurrection of Jesus. The Holy Saturday Liturgy begins with the Service of Light, which includes the blessing of the new fire and the Paschal can-dle that symbolizes Jesus, the Light of the World. The Celebra-tion of the Sacraments of Initiation takes place during the Easter Vigil Liturgy on Holy Saturday when the Elect receive the sac-raments of Baptism, Confirmation and Holy Eucharist. Now the person is fully initiated into the Catholic Church.

JESÚS ANUNCIA EL AMOR DEL REINO DE DIOS Jesús ya caminó, sanó enfermos, perdonó pecados, hizo milagros y comió con las personas. Su mensaje fue simple pero muy profundo; en Cristo, el reino de Dios está cerca. Jesús anunció el amor del Reino de Dios, enseñando todo a quien escuchaba. En el reino de Dios, el más grande es como el más joven, el líder es el servidor. Aquellos que siguen a Jesús están llamados a lavar los pies, atender a los más abandonados, ser misericordiosos con el pecador y amar a los enemigos. Aún en la hora de su pasión, Jesús no rechazó su misión de amor. Él sanó la oreja de Malco, uno de los que habían ido a arrestarlo, no atacó verbalmente a Pilato o Herodes, consoló a las mujeres que lloraban y perdonó a los que lo crucificaron. Él escuchó el gritó del criminal que le hablaba desde la cruz y le prometió un lugar en el Paraíso. Jesús nos mostró que el camino de Dios es el camino del amor a toda costa, incluso cuando signifique dar más de lo que pensamos es apropiado o posible. COMPARTIMOS LA MISIÓN DE CRISTO ¡No nos equivoquemos! La misericordia y el perdón de Jesús lo guío a la cruz y nosotros quienes lo seguimos seguramente experimentaremos una prueba y no seremos comprendidos en nuestra decisión de vivir como discípulos. Seremos llamados para tomar decisiones difíciles acerca de la forma en que vivimos nuestras vidas, servimos a nuestro prójimo, a lo que dedicamos nuestro tiempo y dinero, mostramos paciencia, apoyamos a los pobres y más abandonados. Los amigos pueden darnos la espalda, familiares pueden cuestionar nuestro compromiso con Cristo sobre todas las cosas. Jesús permaneció centrado en la voluntad de Dios. Y también nosotros debemos hacerlo. Jesús dio sin considerar lo que costaba, y también lo debemos hacer nosotros. En Cristo, nosotros también tenemos una misión de amor. Actividades de Semana Santa - 2019

Lunes, 15 de abril. 7 pm Misa de crisma en la catedral de San Simón y Judas. Jueves 18 de abril 7 de la tarde. Jueves Santo Servicio bilingüe

Antes de la oración de apertura de la misa, los santos acei-tes de la misa del crisma se presentarán a la parroquia.

Misa de la Cena del Señor. Este servicio incluye el lavado de los pies, que es una representación de Cristo lavando los pies de los 12 apóstoles en la última cena.

Después de la Oración Después de la Comunión, el Santísi-mo Sacramento será transferido al Altar de Reposo en McFadden Hall. La adoración del Santísimo Sacramento continuará en el Salón desde el final de la misa hasta la medianoche.
