PALS Adult Program Newsletter

Edition 94: February 16, 2018

Hello and Welcome to Edition 94!

Lots of exciting things happened these past month

at PALS Adult Program. Here is a look...

I baked a chocolate cake. I put a pink and red heart. It was hard. I had fun. I feel happy and I am proud of myself. –

Chris O.

I pedalled a bicycle, with my feet, at the gym. It was a little hard. I stayed in the green zone. It was fun and I felt

happy. I worked hard with Nicole and Bethany. – Abbie

I enjoyed Reading class. I read the cards that had vowels, like a, e, i, o and u. It was easy. I did not ask for help.

Reading is fun. I really like the class. – Fraser

I was taking an order for PALS Café. We had coffee, tea, herbal tea and hot chocolate. We also had carrot cake.

Wow! I had fun! I worked hard. I like PALS Café. - Tanya

I did typing with Luisa. It was fun. I read letters and words. I like it. – Chris C

I painted yellow and purple sticks in Art. I feel happy and surprised. It was fun. I like it. – Charlie

My goal for the week was to be flexible. I was flexible in all my classes. I worked hard to earn a proud badge. Boris

said I did a great job being flexible. He is proud of me, too. – Jamie

Doug had Baking classes with Ally. They cooked pizza and baked chocolate chip cookies. Doug had so much fun.

He helped mix the dough, put the cookies in the oven and clean up afterwards.

We had an earthquake drill at PALS. I dropped down on the floor and went under the table. I also covered my head

with my arms and held on to keep myself safe. Earthquakes are kind of scary but I am calm and I know what to do.

I read the Weekly Schedule to the class. There were a lot of changes in the schedule this month. I am very proud of myself for being super flexible. I also told my friends to be flexible and stay calm. Changes are okay. We don’t need

to be nervous about it. – Nicole

I went to Save On Foods. I bought creamo, milk, little fruits and sparkling water for Karin’s meeting. I stayed in the

greeeeeen zone! No red zones at Save On Foods! It was fun. I like shopping! – Ariel

I enjoyed vacuuming the floor in Cleaning Program. It was my first time to use the vacuum cleaner. It was a bit hard

for me at first, but I figured it out. It was good. I feel happy about it. – Melissa

Laila went for long walks around the neighbourhood. She also went to the café. She was calm and happy. She had so much fun!

I cleaned tables and chairs at White Spot. I bussed dirty dishes. I feel good and excited to work at White Spot every

week. The people there are nice and I like them. The smell of the food makes me hungry. – Karl

I did a lot of typing at EFAP. I had fun. I like EFAP. I prepped files, scanned files and copied files. I feel tired because I

work hard. – Julia

I’ve been working hard at Greens Market for a long time. I front face the items on the shelves. Working at Greens is

okay. It is hard-work, because I’m standing all the time, but front-facing the items is easy. – Bethany

Music Therapy with Michaela

I like singing Taylor Swift and Lady Gaga songs. I like dancing

to the songs. I feel happy when I sing! I am a good singer! -

Ariel

I like to play guitar with Michaela. I like the songs “Reindeer”,

“Sunshine” and “Twinkle, twinkle little star”. I like the drums,

too. – Julia

I played the piano with Michaela. I like it. I like “Heal the

World” and “Hero”. I am happy. – Chris O.

I had fun with Michaela. I am happy. – Charlie

Doug enjoyed his Music Therapy session with Michaela. He

had fun strumming the guitar.

The Social Enterprise Team created a limited edition

Valentine’s Day Gift Set!

I labelled Rose Garden candles. I put tissue paper inside boxes. I put cherry rose tea inside the container and I put

the tea labels. I also tied a string around the gift boxes. It looks good. It was fun. I can do everything by myself. Nikki

and I are a good team. – Tanya

Karl & Nicole worked extra hard and earned

their treats!

I liked my treat. I got a large

chocolate Frosty from Wendys. I

worked for 500 tokens. It was hard to

earn it. I feel happy. – Karl

I worked hard to earn this treat. I had

fifteen days of complete tokens. I had

to be a good leader and focus on my

work. It was a cheesy day! – Nicole

Proud Badges were earned!

I am very proud of myself because I don’t have Red Zones for fifteen days! Can you believe it? I did it! I feel happy!

I am proud of myself for labelling the candles and working so hard. I felt happy wearing the proud badge. – Tanya

My goal for the week was to always look both ways when I crossed the street. I did it! I am proud of myself. I need

to look both ways because it is safe. I don’t want to have an accident. – Gabby

I was really happy and a bit surprised when I got the proud badge for doing a good job at work. I worked at the daycare at Kits House. I see a lot of the kids. I play with them, have fun with them, give them their snack and help

them clean up. I have a good time. I am excited to go back next week. – Melissa

Bethany worked so hard and earned her

certificates!

I earned two Certificates of Achievement for two straight weeks of not having any

minuses on my tokens. I feel really excited and nervous. All I had to do is follow all rules, listen to instructors, do

my work tasks, be flexible and be a good leader. It was easy! Karin told me she likes me and that she is proud of me, of

course. – Bethany

We had our Red Robin Lunch to celebrate the success of the

Christmas Bake Sale!

I took the cab to Red Robin with Chris C. I liked the

menu. I ordered hamburger, French fries, pop and

strawberry cheesecake. I had fun with my friends! –

Tanya

I took the train to Red Robin with Ariel. I got scared

when an ambulance passed by because it was too loud.

It made my ears numb. I like Red Robin. The food

tasted yummy. I had fun chatting with my friends. –

Abbie

I went to Red Robin with Abbie. I had fun when I took

the transit. I like the sky train. I like Red Robin, too! I

ordered onion rings, chicken burger, chocolate milk

shake and a chocolate brownie. It was good, huh! –

Ariel

I had chicken strips, fries and black ice pop. I drank a lot

of black pop. It tasted good! I like it. I was full. – Julia

Waiting for the food was hard because I was so hungry.

I had a cheeseburger, French fries and ice cream cake

at Red Robin. It was soooo good! I had fun talking to

my friends and teachers. – Nicole

I went to Red Robin with the Fraze-man and Karl. The hamburger was so good, man! I saw a blue

motorcycle. It was so cool! I really liked it! I found it hard to keep my body in the group, but I was

flexible. – Jamie.

I had chicken strips, fries, bacon, chocolate and hot

tea. I like it. I had fun at Red Robin. – Chris O.

I went to Red Robin with Bethany. I had mac &

cheese with beef. I like it. – Charlie

Doug had hamburger with guacamole and fries. He loved it.

I had lunch with Fraser and Jamie. I had mac &

cheese and mud pie. It was good. I had fun. I like

going out for lunch. – Karl

I ordered chicken strips and fries at Red Robins. It

was yummy! – Fraser

Laila had chicken strips and fries. She enjoyed it.

I went to Red Robin with my friends. The best part was the food. I ordered shrimp & chips, diet coke

and chocolate cake. It was really good. The

restaurant was good. – Bethany

I liked the Onion Rings and the Fish & Chips. I took

the taxi with Helen. – Chris C

Happy Family Day!

My family help and love me. They make me feel happy. –

Aldyne, Simon and Rachy are my family. We will go out for

lunch on Family Day. Pretty cool, huh?! - Ariel

There are five people in my family. I feel happy when I go

swimming at Cultus Lake with my family. - Julia

My family is nice to me. They are kind and helpful. I miss my Mom and Dad when they are at work. My sister went

to Australia for school. I miss her. - Abbie

I love Mommy, Daddy, Kana & Julie. I feel happy. - Charlie

I like talking to Eva about Hakuna Matata. I like going out for dinner at McDonalds with my Mom. My family makes

me happy, sometimes. How cool is that? – Jamie

My family is happy. I like going to Japan to see my Dad. I

like Mom’s curly hair. – Chris O.

My Mom is my family. She is the best family because she helps me, teaches me and has good feelings for me. She cooks macaroni and cheese for me, on some occasions. –

Nicole

I have two brothers, one sister, one nephew, one mom and one dad in my family. My family is pretty great actually.

Sometimes we go out for supper and have a good time. –

Bethany

I feel happy when I am with my family. I like going out with

them. – Karl

My Mom and Dad are my family. I like going vacations together. Spending Family Day at Disneyland was the best

part of my weekend. – Fraser

I love spending time with my family. They are the best. –

Gabby

I really like hanging out with my Mom. I am excited to have

my sister in town. We had a great Family Day. – Melissa

I like going on an airplane with my family. – Chris C

In bed, is where I would sleep the whole day and lay.

Oh hey! It was a great day!

I also wish I could pay at The Bay or see Coldplay.

That’s ok, maybe next year on Valentine’s Day.
