student Fall 1998 Teaching Practicum, SW 626; Iris Phillips, Doctoral student Research Practicum; Linda Taylor, Doctoral student Chair, Research Sequence 2004 to 2015; Course chair, 2016 to present In the last 11 years, 44 instructors including full-time and part time faculty have taught in the research sequence. Fifty percent of the instructors have been doctoral students. It is one of the sequences at Kent School with the fewest full time faculty members and is characterized by the greatest amount of turnover, largely in part to the doctoral students graduating and to the great deal of work required when instructing students on implementing independent projects connected to their practicum. As sequence chair, I have presented at several meetings per year to Kent’s MSSW students at Dean’s Forums, practicum faculty and practicum supervisors to sustain partnerships and dialogue. The research practice sequence provided numerous examples to demonstrate how critical thinking was infused through the curriculum for Kent’s 2008 MSSW’s CSWE reaccreditation. Two of the four areas of Kent’s award winning 2008 Paul Weber Application for Departmental Excellence were built on the advanced research curriculum achievements. The evidence-based practice projects of the research sequence were pivotal in Kent’s unit report to support the University’s nomination for the 2008 Carnegie Community Engagement and Outreach classification. MSSW students’ final 669 reflection papers and the qualitative comments in their course evaluations consistently indicate that their advanced research courses were the most difficult but one of the most influential on their professional development. Curriculum Development In the last 8 years, I have re-designed all of the research courses in the MSSW programs at Kent. I am also responsible for developing the master syllabi, the design of the Blackboard shells for 668 and 669 including providing all necessary handouts, assignments, rubrics and powerpoints. I am happy to share all of my course products, websites, course syllabi and coursepaks with every instructor of our sequence. In 2015, I redesigned the SW 668 and 669 courses for online instruction.
