Pan-American University Championship 1. General Regulations & Rules 1.1. The Championships shall be governed by the General Regulations for CCACompetitions and these Rules. 2. Participation 2.1. All chess players, who must be studying at University level and shall not have reached the age 27 before January 1st of the year in which the Championships are held, are eligible to participate. 2.2. All participants must have written accreditation from their University. 2.3. The Universities intending to participate shall send their entries to the organizing federation at least two months before the start of the Championship. Copies of the entries shall be sent to the Continental President giving: names and birthdates of participants, FIDE 10 and email address, required information if visa required. 3. Schedule and System 3.1. The Championships must not exceed 10 days including official day of arrival and departure. 3.2. When there are 10 or fewer participants, a round robin Tournament shall be held. 3.3. When there are 11-16 participants, the Championship shall be played with preliminaries and final tournament. 3.4. When there are more than 16 participants, the Championship shall be a 9 round Swiss tournament. 3.5. Participants must be present at the opening ceremony that shall be held in the evening of the day of arrival. The closing ceremony shall take place not later than the day after the end of the Championships. 4. Designation of the Winners. 4.1 The final ranking order of the players is determined by the number of points scored. If at the end of the tournament, two or more players are tied for the first place or for any prize, the tie shall be broken in accordance with the following tiebreak systems: A. In a Swiss System Championship a. Results of direct encounters between the tied players (applies only if all tied players have played each other) b. The greater number of wins c. The greater number of games with black (un-played games shall be counted as played with white) d. Buchholz cut 1 e. Buchholz f. Sonneborn-Berger.

S. Prizes5.1. The top three placed players shall receive trophies.5.2. The three best ranked Universities shall receive trophies. To determine the final ranking,

The total number of points scored by each University shall determine the final ranking.

6. Financial Regulations6.1. The travel expenses, board and lodging of the players and accompanying persons shall be

paid by their National federations or themselves.6.2. In addition to the requirements in the General Regulations, the Chief Arbiter shall be paid a

stipend USD1000 and the Appeals Committee President shall be paid an honorarium ofUSD500.

6.3. The Organizer shall offer free board and lodging for one coach per team with a minimum of3 players in the event. .•••4!? :>
