1 Kallambalam Vishnu (Janardhanaswami) temple Wynad which requires protection as National Monument by Archeological Society of India. (The last few photographs are the gates of Sri Kaleeswari temple which also needs protection. It is a twin temple of Lava and Kusa and of Sita ( as Kali) where Lakshmana left her , according to the instructions of SriRama. ) Kallambalam Janardhanaswami temple represents Rama’s presence and Thirunelli represents Lakshmana’s presence (as Anantha) to protect Devi and the twins. These 2 Vishnu temples are located on either side of the Kaleeswari temple. Thirunelli overlooks an observation point on top of the hill. Pakshipathalam and the deep Kalindi river with evidence of Lava which had flown through its basin shows its antiquity. Only Thirunelli is listed in Kerala Govt census of temples and the other two are unlisted ,unprotected . Janardhanaswami temple is on level ground, en route to Thirunelli on Panamaram Thirunelli Road . Kaleeswari temple is visited only by Adivasi tribes because it is in the thick forest which is the place of wild animals, like elephants, tigers etc. Kallambalam Vishnu temple and Kaleeswari temple are not having any daily pooja and needs protection as National Monuments. Kallambalam is on the roadside and is approachable to visitors. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dj6JIXaCREQ&feature=c4overview&list=UUCQIVO4zAEwFK7o5K9N4RmQ Kallambalam Vishnu part 1 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BhIps8tj88&list=UUCQIVO4zAEwFK7o5K9N4RmQ kallambalam Vishnu part 2.

DESCRIPTION

Wynad in North Malabar abounds in ancient abandoned temples of rare archeological and artistic beauty . This particular temple needs to be protected as a National Monument because it has several features which are very rare elsewhere in temples of Malabar. Nature has taken its toll on the Gopuram of this structure and on courtyard . In the forest of Wynad, this abandoned structure still stands as a forsaken monument of India's past history. Vaasthu sasthra at its best , with Bharathamuni's karana postures demonstrable in each pillar, Dasavathara of a rare type which includes Avathara like Hayagreeva and Mohini as well are seen here. The pictures here also show the rare Lajjagouri Sculpture with a slightly erotic tempo, which is not seen in other Kerala temples .This figurine has Mudra of hand and feet which resemble IVC/Harappan dancing girl.IVC/Harappan scripts are also seen scattered.
