Understanding PG&E Electrical RatesNet Energy Metering (NEM)Net energy metering (NEM) is a unique billing arrangement that provides credit to clients with solar systems for the full retail value of the electricity their system generates. Your electric meter keeps track of how much electricity you consume, and how much excess electricity is generated by the system and sent back into the electric utility grid. PG&E credits your account for the extra power that goes back out onto the grid. At night when you’re not producing energy, you buy power from PG&E using those credits. Then, once a year, PG&E bills or refunds you for the net difference.

E6 - Time of Use (TOU)Switching solar customers from E1 to E6 pricing can lower your electric bills up to 25%. The cost of the electricity is also determined by the time of day it is used. Cost will rise during Peak and Partial-Peak hours. • Summer Season: May 1 – October 30• Baseline rates increase as clients rise above pre-determined measurement markers. On TOU, you are selling extra power to

the utility company during the Peak hours for 29₵ to 52₵ per kilowatt-hour (kWh), and then buying power back during Off-Peak hours from 8₵to 32₵ per kWh.

EVA - Time of Use (TOU)This EV rate option includes EV charging costs into your total household electric bill. This rate plan is not tiered. The price per kWh is based only on the time of day you use electricity: Peak, Partial-Peak and Off-Peak. • Summer Season May 1 – October 30

On EVA, clients have a year-round “Peak” period from 2pm-9pm. For some families this rate schedule may be more cost beneficial.

E1 - Residential Tiered PricingThe cost per kWh increases on a tiered schedule as the electricity usage increases. There are no peak periods.
