Uttarakhand RRD Program Update 6 (December, 2013)
Working with the underserved communities
for over two decades now, PSP continues to
make significant contributions and a
genuine difference in peoples lives.
In view of the recent catastrophe at
Uttarakhand and the resulting devastation,
and as part of its commitment towards the
communities, PSP has started a
comprehensive 3-phase `Relief-
Rehabilitation-Development Program in
the state. A base-camp is being set up and
a dedicated team is being created to
alleviate the sufferings of the local
inhabitants, help them overcome the loss &
trauma and then restore normalcy in their
lives and the region.

PSP-Uttarakhand Relief-Rehabilitation-Development Program : Update-6
PSPs Uttarakhand-RRD Program has completed six months of active intervention of reducing the
daily struggle of the flood-affected communities in the most affected District of Rudraprayag and
slowly but steadily helping the direct program beneficiaries (around 150 children and 300+
women & young girls) to rebuild their lives.
The RRD Program has now reached its consolidation stage with the 2 Shelter Homes established in
the state (at Ukhimath & Fata) serving as a loving abode to the children who lost their parents /
guardians in the June-2013 (and previous) catastrophe.
The compassionate hands of our project team incl. the caretakers locally employed ensure that
every need of these children is taken care of, every single day. So every child at the VATSALYA
Centres receives our standard package (common across all VatsalyaGram locations) of below
mentioned benefits:
1) Shelter
2) Food & Nutrition
3) Education
4) Healthcare
5) Overall Wellbeing
With Schools being closed for the winter break during this period, the children were kept warm
and engaged indoors through a variety of indoor activities such as board games, story-telling
sessions, other fun activities and exercises.
Child care & development has always been central to our mandate and forms the crux of our
interventions at Uttarakhand also.

PSP-Uttarakhand Relief-Rehabilitation-Development Program : Update-6
The seven (7) Vocational Training Centres established across the same number of villages are now
imparting skills around
Tailoring & Stitching to more
than 300 women & young
girls. The latest Sewing
Machines and other tools
have been supplied at each
of these centres together
with the raw material &
other inputs, and which are
replenished on need basis.
Training these women & young girls is naturally
the key agenda of this initiative, however, the
other significant aspect is that ten (10) Trainers
& Supervisors, all from the affected villages,
have been provided employment at these seven
centres. In doing so, they are not only
meaningfully involved but also able to support
their families through an otherwise extremely challenging phase of their lives.

PSP-Uttarakhand Relief-Rehabilitation-Development Program : Update-6
The PSP Uttarakhand-RRD Program has completed six months and is in its second phase of
rebuilding & rehabilitation with focused interventions. Not only has the project received inspiring
contribution from individuals, but it has also received support from like-minded and socially-
responsible organizations.
ADOBE Systems a leading and globally respected computer software company
has partnered with PSP to assist in the rebuilding of Uttarakhand. As an
organization, ADOBE has always acknowledged and carried out its responsibility
towards the society at large. This philosophy has been shared by its workforce as
employees of ADOBE Systems India contributed 1-days salary for the PSP RRD Program and which
will be matched by the ADOBE Management in the ratio of 2:1. This contribution will solely be
utilized for `Construction of the School-building to be built on the piece of land acquired by the
organization in the state for which the necessary permissions and approvals are already under
process with the concerned authorities.
Friends of Navdanya Inc. a US-based not-for-profit organization engaged in
eradicating hunger, malnutrition and rural poverty from India selected PSP
as its grass-root partner for distributing blankets amongst the victims.
It was an extremely thoughtful gesture considering
that winters would add to the woes of the affected
people and communities. FoN provided 1000
blankets, while another 500+ blankets plus woolens
for children were locally sourced by PSP and then
free-distributed amongst population of six (6)
different villages.

Buoyed by all the encouragement & support, and in keeping with our mission & mission, we stand
committed in our pledge to continue to serve the children, women & other community members
