    Jessies The June Callwood Centre for Young Women is a multi-service resource centre for

    pregnant young women, young parents and their children. Jessies work includes a broad

    spectrum of services addressing issues related to the social determinants of health. Jessiesoperates from a feminist perspective and is a pro-choice organization that supports a womans

    right to make choices about her sexual health and pregnancy options. We strive to demonstrate

    our commitment to feminism, anti-discrimination and positive social change in every aspect of our

    structure and functioning. Jessies staff and participants (clients) come from diverse cultures and

    sexual orientations. Having a rich history in working with diverse populations is fundamental to

    this role.

    The Parent-Child Centre Program Assistant will ensure consistent, high quality care for the infants and

    toddlers in the Parent-Child Centre and will contribute to a safe and stimulating environment that is

    welcoming and supportive of parents. The Parent-Child Centre Program Assistant will work in

    conjunction with the Parent-Child Counsellors.

    Responsibilities:

    Plan and implement age appropriate activities which will support childrens emotional, social,physical and cognitive growth

    Provide childcare and programming for children in the Parent Child Centre/Drop-In Provide a stimulating, safe and supportive environment for children and parents in a respectful,

    and non-judgmental manner

    Provide direction to placement students and volunteers Participate in regular scheduled meetings and provide information related to childrens

    development and parenting interactions

    Physical Demands of the Parent-Child Centre Setting:

    Multiple demands and constant interruption in tasks Lifting, carrying and holding children up to 35lbs. while standing and seated Sitting and standing for prolonged periods of time

    Kneeling and squatting on the floor during play and supervision of children Outdoor supervision of children and parent activities Exposure to cleaning products i.e. bleach solution Exposure to bacterial and viral infections Exposure to noise

    Qualifications:

    ECE Certificate or equivalent 3-5 years experience caring ,coordinating and programming directly with infants and toddlers Knowledge and experience of attachment theory along with skills in supporting the

    development of a secure parent and child attachment

    Understanding of issues related to poverty, housing, welfare, discrimination, child protection,parenting

    Knowledge of resources available to young parents Demonstrated capacity of strong interpersonal skills working within a holistic and collaborative

    approach

    Demonstrated ability to take initiative, be self-motivated and self-directed within a teamatmosphere

    Strong organizational and computer literacy in Word, Outlook, Excel Flexibility and availability to work evening programming
