Charter Renewal Process - New

• Kingsley’s charter will need to be rewritten to meet new state charter requirements.

• The new requirements are so different that the renewal should be considered a ‘start from scratch’ effort.

• As a conversion still no appeal process if DCSD denies petition

• There are open state, legislative, and district issues greatly affecting this process.– Flexibility Advisory Committee– Strategic Planning – Legislative decisions

– DCSD presentation available on Kingsley Website

Charter Renewal ProcessMain Areas of Change

• DCSD to provide an ‘above the line, below the line’ list of items that can and cannot be autonomous at the school level – 2-3 months for further clarification of what these will be

What Does it All Mean?

• We must decide:– Are we willing to put in the time and effort,

now and moving forward, in exchange for potential of MUCH greater flexibility?

– Do we request an extension now to give time for DCSD definition of successful petitions? (if so, due by March 15th)

– Should we let our charter lapse and try to start from scratch in 2015-16 cycle? DeKalb may have declared they will be a Charter system and Kingsley will have to present a strategic plan any way
