There are a number of computer laboratories and several clusters of computers in other locations around the school. Pupils in Y7-Y9 are requested to bring a digital learning device to school. From august 2015, they must have a laptop, and from august 2016, it should be an apple. We recommend a macBook air.

all pupils will need to sign an acceptable Use agreement and are required to follow agreed rules to protect the security of the schools network. Usernames and passwords will only be issued once this agreement is signed by students and parent(s).

conceRns & comPlainTs:For PupilsPupils are encouraged to talk directly to their teachers whenever an academic problem arises. They should approach the teacher at a suitable time (e.g. at the end of the day) or make an appointment. issues dealt with as soon as they occur are usually straightforward to solve. However, if the concern is not resolved or is of a pastoral nature, pupils should approach their Form Tutor or the Head of Department of the subject area or Head of school.

For ParentsClassroom issues• if you have a concern about a classroom matter, you should contact the Form Tutor

in the first instance and discuss the matter with him/her. Contact can be made by phoning the school Reception Office 02 497 0100 and leaving a message for the Tutor concerned or by emailing the relevant Tutor. all teacher emails are listed at the front of this booklet and your child’s planner email is the preferred method. another method of contact is to write in your child’s planner.

• Teachers will, wherever possible, return calls/emails by the end of the next school day. You should ensure that you supply information about how and when to contact you. contact numbers should also be included if the complaint has been made in writing. The school will endeavour to respond to written complaints within 3 days.

• if the response provided by the Tutor does not fully address your concerns, you may wish to take the matter further by making contact with the relevant Deputy Head or Head of school. should matters not be resolved, you may wish to then contact the Headmaster. Formal complaints are hopefully in exceptional circumstances, as we endeavor to resolve all matters at the appropriate level.

cURRicUlUm:our teaching programmes are aligned with the vision, values and principles of The British curriculum and cranleigh UK. We foster a learning environment in which all pupils work together, supporting each other to become confident, connected, innovative and resourceful life-long learners.

While meeting the academic needs of the pupils, we also provide for their healthy physical and emotional development and encourage responsibility for self, others and the environment.

if you have questions about subjects you can contact the Heads of Department and subject teachers for advice.

DamaGe To scHool PRoPeRTY:any damage to school property must be reported to the Heads of school immediately. if there is evidence of deliberate damage and/or if the person responsible fails to report it, the school may require the pupil to pay for the repair either in part or in full.

FaceBooK:Cranleigh has an official FaceBook page where we advertise and promote the activities and upcoming events in the school. There is also a parents’ FaceBook page which has proved very useful for parents to interact. There is also a cranleigh lost Property FaceBook page. We strongly recommend to engage with FaceBook at cranleigh as it is an instant and very useful tool when communicating informally with parents.

FoRm TUToR:Your son’s or daughter’s Form Tutor /Class Teacher is the first point of contact for any information parents wish to pass on to us, or for any concerns you may have. The Form Tutors’ e-mail addresses are found in the front of the calendar and on the website.

GaP sTUDenTs:Gap students spend a year with us. They help with sports and activities. They have usually just left school and are planning to go to university next year.

any planned absences during term time should be approved by the Headmaster in advance. Please email [email protected] and cc in [email protected] Judith has a standard phrase for this somewhere along the lines of 'absence will be marked as unauthorised unless Brendan allows it for exceptional circumstances such as special family occasions'.

Home: Please do show an interest in what your child is learning. ask to see their books and their prep. What have they done in class today? Whilst it is important that your children see you are interested, please don’t try to take over from the teachers or question everything they are doing. They are the experts, so please trust them!

lUncHes:We operate a self-service system with members of common Room supervising the lunch tables. There is a choice of main courses and desserts and salads are always on offer. We insist upon good table manners. The weekly menu is always published one week ahead on the Parent Portal.

maTHs WaRRioRs – maGna HiGHevery school in the north africa & middle east region who subscribes to manga High is automatically entered into a monthly competition. The pupils do the tasks set by their math’s teachers and if they do well they can win medals and points for the school (bronze = 1, silver = 2, gold = 3). at the end of every month the school with the most points wins. In our first two weeks, Cranleigh have placed first in over 5000 schools.

meDicines:all medicines shall be kept in the clinic. The school nurse is responsible for administering the medicine either prescribed by a doctor, or over-the-counter medications. senior students (Year 7 – Year 9) may self-administer the medication (oral meds – syrup, tablet, capsule) with their parents’ consent.

For prescribed and/or over-the-counter medications, the parent should inform the school nurses and sign the consent form in the clinic. This will help the nurses to be aware of the medicines taken by the pupils.

Regarding the routine in the clinic, each pupil who comes in to the clinic will have a School Clinic Visit. A Parent Notification Slip will be provided as proof that the pupil attended the clinic. The pupil will present the slip to the teacher and will give it to his/her parents after school. For preschoolers, the form tutor or Teaching assistant will attach the slip to the pupil’s planner so that it will not be misplaced.

For pupils who can’t resume his/her class or school activities due to sickness, or underlying medical condition, the school nurse will call the parent to collect the child from school. The early leaver slip will be given to the parent before leaving the school premises. if the parent is not available to collect the child, he/she should inform the nurse and give the information of the guardian/person who will be responsible to collect the child.

In cases of emergency, the school nurse will be the first line of contact. Based on the type and severity of the injury or illness, the nurse will determine if external medical assistance is required. For pupils who have standby medicine in the clinic, the school nurse can give it right away and inform the parents regarding the condition. The school nurse will call an ambulance for help and send the pupil to the hospital accompanied either by a Teaching assistant, or the nurse himself/herself.

meDical cenTRe:situated at the Junior & senior schools, the medical centre is staffed from 7am to 6pm daily by fully qualified nursing staff. Injured or sick pupils may be treated there: 02 497 0199.
