School Responses to Perceived Weaknesses#1 Informed Regularly of Progress / Communication from teacher to parent● At the beginning of each school year, the school will update Jupiter settings

so that parents of students in Grades 4-8 will automatically receive emailed grades each week.

● Beginning in the Fall of 2018, Parent Teacher Conferences are now led by students explaining their data.

● Assessment Data (STAR and AIMSweb) will be sent home three times per year (Beginning of year, Winter, End of year) so parents can see academic progress over the course of a year and from one year to the next.

● In the Spring of 2019, parents will be surveyed to better understand preferred methods of communication.

● In the Spring of 2019, parents will be surveyed again using this same satisfaction survey.

School Responses to Perceived Weaknesses#2 Clear Expectations for Learning

● Teachers communicate daily Learning Objectives for each class to students.● Students have data meetings with teachers at least 3 times per year to

discuss results from STAR/Aimsweb and standardized tests. Each student has a data folder with all of their major assessment data from every year that they have been a student at St. Bartholomew School. Students and teachers set goals together and review progress.

School Responses to Perceived Weaknesses#3 Variety of Teaching Strategies● Teachers discuss, learn and develop new teaching strategies through

Professional Learning Communities that meet weekly.● Professional Development in 2018 and 2019 included the following:

○ Cultural Sensitivity Training provided by Phil Gonzales from the Archdiocese○ SIOP (Sheltered Instruction Observation Protocol) - enhances lessons with building

vocabulary and using other new strategies in the classroom that are especially helpful to English Language Learners and struggling students

○ Master Teacher - Research Based Weekly PD program with lessons on strategies to use with students and a variety of other topics

○ Improving our Professional Learning Community model (Additional Training in March 2019)○ Catechism Study and Catholic Social Teachings Information for Faculty○ Training on topics such as Contacting Child Protective Services, Homelessness, Human

Trafficking and Suicide Prevention (March 2019)○ Teaching Assistants have also received PD training through monthly meetings

School Responses to Perceived Weaknesses#4 Access to Support Services

● Beginning in 2018-2019, we now have 4 Resource/Title I Teachers who work with students who are struggling in reading and/or math.

○ One teacher is specialized to work with students who have reading disabilities. ○ One is also a Title III Teacher who is specially licensed to work with English Language

Learners.

● School Social Worker is hired through Catholic Charities and is here 4 days each week to work with students individually and in small groups.

● Students who meet certain criteria are invited to Homework Help tutoring that is provided 2 days per week after school.

● Beginning in 2018, we applied for and receive additional funding for Support Services through Title IV Grant funds.

School Responses to Perceived Weaknesses#5 Effective Use of Financial Resources

● In 2018-2019, School Commission has been dedicated to increasing sources of school revenue. Their work is transparent by providing agendas and notes from each School Commission Meeting on our school website.

○ Established Endowment Fund for St. Bartholomew Catholic School○ Increased communication with Alumni to build relationships and potential new donors○ Increased marketing for the school in general and for SGO Scholarship funding

● In 2018-2019, the school has received additional funds through Grants○ Increased Title I and Title IV Grants - as mentioned earlier○ School Safety and Security Grant from Indiana Homeland Security ($70,000 matching grant)○ Early Literacy Grant from the IDOE/State of Indiana ($1,935)○ Formative Assessment Grant (STAR/Aimsweb) from the IDOE/State of Indiana ($5,396)○ PTO obtained Grants from the Raskob Foundation and Archdiocese

● School Principal has established relationships with Parish Finance Committee, Buildings & Grounds Committee, and the Capital Campaign Committee so that the school receives generous funding.

● PTO is also transparent with regard to finances. A budget summary is provided by the Treasurer at every quarterly meeting. They hold a yearly budget meeting that is open to parents and teachers.

● Athletics has increased funding through projects to support their own program○ Golf Outing fundraiser○ Tournament fees ○ Event entrance fees○ Additional Concessions

Additional School Responses to Survey Results

Carline Improvements in 2018:● School staff members park outside of main parking lot at church or facing

Northside Middle School.● One staff member goes out before dismissal to direct better traffic flow into

our lot. ● Students are released earlier - before 3:00pm. ● More staff members on parking lot duty in afternoon.

In Conclusion

We are happy with and proud of the positive feedback, especially in the areas of communicating our mission and providing rigorous religious studies. These were areas that we have worked on improving over the last few years, and the survey shows we have been successful! Several years ago, we established a faculty Catholic Identity Committee that works very hard on creating activities and events that support our school’s Catholic Identity and help our students and staff to grow in their faith and spirit. We also renewed our school’s Mission Statement.

We are pleased that parents want us to have high expectations for students and that parents perceive our learning environment to be safe for their children. We are also excited that so many parents choose to be involved in improving our school community. We are glad that you enjoy all the different opportunities to be involved and that you are having fun too! Thank you for offering your time and talent!
