Parent Teacher Association Executive Board Meeting

March 7, 2016

The meeting was called to order at 6:40pm

Board Members present: Marquis Benton, Ima Veal, Principal Newman; and one parent

volunteer

Minutes from the February 1st Board meeting were read and approved.

Marquis reviewed the current financials: $11,875.57 minus $422.42 going to 5th grade

reserve equals $11, 453.15 as our current balance.

Financial items pending:

Field Day. Teachers are asking for small and extra small t-shirts.

We need to buy a mascot. We discussed getting a parrot pirate.

We need EOG books.

Staff Appreciation Week

April 11 is volunteer appreciation day. Will have a volunteer breakfast.

Family engagement vs family involvement was discussed and how to move parents into

engagement where they commit to participating. Idea posed: parent pledge

May 5th teacher appreciation- Carolina Ale will provide dinner for teachers. Alisha

reported that PTA must provide drinks.

Tijuana Flats will provide lunch that week. Alisha will contact Olive Garden about

contributing.

Monday, May 2nd make a card for your teacher

Tuesday, May 3rd-bring a supply needed for the classroom

Wednesday, May 4th- bring a $5 gift card to your teacher for her favorite place

Thursday, May 5th- remember the Specials/Extracurricular and ASEP teachers

Friday, May 6th- sweet treat day.

Planning phase: Chickfila breakfast- Monday, Twin Peaks- email sent for Wednesday,

Three Amigos- Thursday, Hickory Tavern Mallard Creek- Friday.

EduKit will send us info-contact them directly. We just need supply list from teachers.

The sales start in May-June. We may want to ask churches to sponsor supply kits for

grade levels.

Milestones:

K-2 reading night was great.

The Book Fair was a success again.

Art Expo went well. Chickfila supplied breakfast.

Fun Run is on hold.

We want to ensure every child has a (Fundraiser)Tile. Donna is helping Principal

Newman keep track of who has bought/not bought Tiles.

International Bar was a success!

Dr. Suess Week. PTA sponsored Chickfila breakfast.

Principal Newman wants to discuss next year’s calendar with the Board.

Marquis discussed bounced checks. Mrs. Kraft will reach out to those parents whose

checks were returned unpaid.

3/21/16: New and prospective parents of Parkside can attend Open House 8a-9a. Flyers

have been sent out to local daycares. Hosted by the school.

3/23/16: PTA Social at 6pm: all Board members need to be present. Ideas: Offer

childcare, refreshments, short presentation about PTA, icebreakers/games, set up stations

where parents can go around and get a card punched. Raffle. Name tags.

Potential game: Find Someone Who? (attended a PTA function) Principal Newman will

put that game together. Invitation flyers go out on Friday.
