The Music ProgramThe Music Department at Mater Dei College is committed to offering a high quality music education with the support of our specialist peripatetic music tutors who offer 1:1 tuition on a variety of instruments, including vocals.

We cater for those who have music experience and for those who are keen to learn an instrument for the first time.

These students will become part of the College Ensembles which currently include: Flute Ensemble, Clarinet Ensemble, Concert Band, Swing Band and Choir with Rock Bands planned for 2019. These are all free of charge and rehearse either at lunchtimes or before/after school.

There are a variety of performance and competition opportunities throughout the year where students can showcase their skills and talents including, assemblies, concerts, Music Camp, the Catholic Performing Arts Festival and various community performances.

Students are also encouraged to complete graded music examinations through the AMEB or ABRSM examination boards. These qualifications can be credited towards their WACE as an Endorsed Program.

The College offers assistance to a limited number of Yr 7 students every year under the Band Development Assistance Scheme. Please see separate application form for more details.

Private Tuition Conditions

• Lessons are 30 minutes and take place during the school day on a rotating timetable to ensure students do not miss the same class every week.

• Students are required to purchase or hire their own musical instrument. The College has some woodwind and brass instruments available for hire, these will be allocated on a first come first served basis. The cost of hire is $125 per year and charges will be billed on the second account for the year.

• All students undertaking music tuition are expected, as part of their role within the Mater Dei Music Community and under the discretion of the Director of Music, to be involved in at least one ensemble.

• Private tuition is a year-long commitment. Should a student decide they wish to discontinue their lessons part way through the year, one full term’s notice is required in writing to the Director of Music. Please note the hire fee is non-refundable.
