ADMISSION TO SCHOOL

A child must reach age five prior to September 1 to be eligible for kindergarten. Likewise, a child must reach age six prior to September 1 to be eligible for first grade.

ARRIVALS AND DEPARTURES

Classes begin at 8:45 a.m. Upon arriving students should report directly to the playground. Students should arrive no later than 8:40 a.m. as teachers bring the children in at 8:45 a.m. Students are welcomed on our campus after 8:15 a.m. Supervision will not be available until that time, and student safety is our primary goal. Breakfast will be available to all students beginning at 8:15 a.m. in the cafeteria. We request that students eat breakfast as soon as they arrive on campus prior to going to the playground. This will help them arrive on time to class.

Students arriving after 8:45 a.m. parent will need to escort and sign them in at the front office prior to going to their assigned class.

Children in grades one through six are dismissed at 3:15 p.m. For safety reasons, we request that students leave school immediately unless they have written parental permission to be involved in a school sanctioned activity after hours.

If for any reason you wish to pick your child up from school before dismissal, you will need to come to the office in order to have them paged. Parents or guardians will be asked to “sign-out” their child in a notebook kept in the office. Please remember students will only be released to individuals listed on the Emergency Card already filed in the office with proper identification unless the office receives prior written notification from the parent or guardian.

ATTENDANCE AND ABSENCE PROCEDURES

The Governing Board believes that the attainment of academic excellence requires attendance on a regular basis. Attendance is the responsibility of the students, parents or guardians.

Regular attendance is the key to much of the success a student may gain from his/her school program. Students should remain out of school only when absolutely necessary. When a student has to be absent from school, the parent or guardian shall notify the school on the morning of the absence by 9:30 a.m. Parents are requested to call the school attendance line at 602-449-4401. Failure to do so will result in the student being marked truant. Students who arrive late must report to the school office before going to class. A student whose absences (excused/unexcused) total more than 10% or 18 days of the school year and whose absences have affected academic progress may be retained due to the negative effect on the grade and may be cited and reported to the courts (A.R.S. 15-802; A.R.S. 15-803).

All students are expected to remain on campus from the time school convenes until dismissal time. Exceptions will be made for students whose parents have made special arrangements such as doctor’s appointments. A parent or other designated

person is required to come into the office and sign the student out prior to his/her release from school. Parents may not go directly to the classroom to release a student.

Parents will be informed as to their child’s attendance record on each report card. Parents will be notified if their child is missing an excessive

number of school days. If correction is not brought about through parents and school cooperation, the proper state agencies will be notified by the school.

BICYCLES ONLY students in grades 3-6 may ride bicycles to school unaccompanied by an adult. First and second grade students may ride bikes to school ONLY if accompanied by an adult from door to door. 1. The bicycles are walked in crosswalks, in automobile areas and on campus. 2. Students and PARENTS make the decision to ride to school. Quail Run assumes no responsibility for loss, injury or

damage. The bicycle compound cannot be observed from inside the building; therefore, during the day it is NOT supervised. Bikes may be susceptible to theft even when locked in the bike rack.

3. Failure to obey rules will result in the loss of the privilege to ride bicycles to school. 4. Please do not leave bikes in rack overnight. 5. Students are encouraged to wear helmets. *If your child’s bike is stolen, it is the parent’s responsibility to call Crime Stop (602- 262-6151) to report the theft. BIRTHDAYS, GIFTS, CELEBRATIONS, ETC. We understand that friends and parents like to celebrate various occasions. However, balloons, presents, and bouquets cause many distractions, and are not allowed on the bus or on the campus. Classroom treats may be distributed if pre-approved by the classroom teacher. In an effort to comply with the Maricopa Department of Environmental Services, food brought into the classroom for snacks and parties must come from a commercial source and cannot be homemade. If you have any questions, please contact the school office. Individual invitations may not be distributed on campus, unless every child in the classroom receives one. This policy helps protect instructional time and ensures that all students are treated equally. CHANGE OF ADDRESS OR PHONE NUMBER It is imperative that our files contain accurate information so we can locate you should an emergency arise. If a change in any information should occur, please notify the office by phone or in writing of those changes. We thank you in advance for helping us in this matter. The following guidelines and policies apply to: 1. Students who use computers belonging to the Paradise Valley

Unified School District. 2. Students who access network resources available through the

Paradise Valley Unified School District. 3. Students who bring personal electronic devices to Paradise

Valley Unified School District schools/events. Network access, including the Internet, is available to students. Official PVUSD student email accounts, complete with internet services, are also provided to enable more effective and efficient teacher/administrator communication with students and parents. PVUSD also maintains contact information (home phone, email, cell phone, address, etc.) for appropriate communication business. Our goal in providing this is to promote instruction and learning. The district has taken technical and organizational precautions to restrict access to controversial materials; however, on a shared network it is impossible to control all controversial materials. The district believes the valuable information and interaction available on our network and the Internet far outweigh the possibility that users may experience material inconsistent with the educational goals of the district. Guidelines for acceptable use ● Only devices (computers, phones, PDAs, drivers, etc.) approved by PVUSD administration may be connected to the PVUSD

network. ● Computers, telecommunications and network resources are to be used for educational purposes only.Students shall not

purposely submit, publish, display or retrieve any defamatory, inaccurate, abusive, obscene, profane, threatening, sexually oriented, racially offensive or illegal material.

● Students shall abide by all copyright and trademark laws and regulations. ● Students shall not reveal personally identifiable data unless authorized to do so by designated school authorities. ● Students shall not reveal their personal logins/passwords or attempt to discover the logins/passwords of others. ● Students shall not use the network in any way that would disrupt the use of the network by others. ● Students shall not attempt to harm hardware, software or data, nor interfere with the security of any computer,

telecommunication or network resource. ● Students shall regularly read and respond to communication received via district- provided email accounts according to

the timeline expectations established by their school authorities. Privileges and Responsibilities The use of Paradise Valley Unified School District computers, telecommunication and network resources is a privilege, not a right, and may be revoked at any time. Violations of this privilege may result in disciplinary action under the guidelines and through the authority of the Governing Board and its policies. Services The Paradise Valley Unified School District reserves the right to monitor the use of district computer, telecommunications and network resources. In particular, electronic mail or direct electronic communication is not private and may be read and

monitored by school personnel. The Paradise Valley Unified school District is not responsible for any service interruptions, changes or consequences resulting from system use, even if these arise from circumstances under the control of the district. The Paradise Valley Unified School District may make rules, as needed; for the operation of the system.

CONFERENCES Conferencing is a positive way to develop two-way communication between home and school on the student’s academic and social progress. Two formal parent- teachers conferences are held during the year. As the conferences approach you will receive notification of your scheduled time. We encourage parents and teachers to hold conferences with each other when necessary throughout the year. We request that parents set up an appointment rather than “drop in” as teachers often have before and after school commitments.

DISCIPLINE POLICIES Quail Run sets high behavioral expectations for all students. We realize that students make mistakes and often learn valuable lessons from those mistakes. We encourage students to be risk-takers. Taking risks teaches students to be innovative, have confidence and show initiative. Proper behavior in the classroom, playground and at school activities makes our school a safe and orderly place to learn and play. Students will learn about the IB Student Profile and the IB Attitudes and are expected to use this learning to guide their behavior and decision-making. Students will often find themselves in situations that are inappropriate. When those mistakes happen, students experience consequences. Each teacher has their own organized behavior management system for addressing student behaviors within their classrooms. (Please review the district Parent Handbook for further information regarding district policies for discipline.) DRESS AND GROOMING GUIDELINES A person’s dress and grooming should reflect upon the “society” in which the individual is located at the time. The school houses students who make appropriate and responsible choices in regard to attire, grooming, and neatness. Quail Run teachers, parents, and volunteers should model all expected behaviors. Although we recognize that each student’s manner of dress is a manifestation of personal style and individual preference we believe that the educational mission of our school will be enhanced if students dress appropriately to maintain an environment conducive to learning. Our students should treat coming to school as their job and should dress accordingly. Student dress, personal appearance, or conduct shall not disrupt nor distract from instructional procedures, school sanctioned social functions, or disciplinary control of the teachers. Any garment allowing undergarments to show is inappropriate. Also, any clothing that allows for viewing of or exposure to private body areas is not acceptable. We ask that parents use their own discretion, and help enforce our modest guidelines. These guidelines, except for religious articles of clothing, include the following: ● All articles of clothing worn at school must have at least 4 fingers (index to pinky) of coverage at the top of the shoulder.

Anything less is considered a tank top. ● Any attire that is sexually suggestive, exposes cleavage or extremely brief is prohibited. ● Shirts must cover the waistline of shorts, slacks, and skirts with no midriff or back skin showing at any time. Tank tops

backless or halter tops, sheer garments, and torn or cut garments are not permitted. Any clothing allowing undergarments to show is inappropriate. Pajama type clothing should not be worn to school.

Page 7: Parent/Student Handbook · 2019-06-26 · *If your child’s bike is stolen, it is the parent’s responsibility to call Crime Stop (602- 262-6151) to report the theft. BIRTHDAYS,

● No “short-shorts”. The school reserves the right to identify shorts as “too short” on a case-by-case basis relative to the level of modesty displayed. The rolling of waistbands is generally inappropriate, as are short shorts that have revealing slits or torn sides.

● No clothing with inappropriate language. ● Clothing shall not promote, advertise or picture tobacco

products, alcohol, drugs, or illegal, sexual, or violent behavior. ● Student footwear, tennis shoes or regular shoes, should have an enclosed heel or back strap, and must be worn at all

times. Girl’s sandals or shoes of any kind should not exceed a 1 (one) inch heel. During PE, students must wear tennis shoes with laces or Velcro straps. No slip-ons permitted.

● Hat and sunglasses may be worn outside only. Wearing hoods over the head or bandanas are not allowed in the building. ● Attire, hairstyles, or any unnatural hair color that attracts undue attention to the wearer and causes disruption in the

school are not acceptable. Wearing makeup at the elementary level is discouraged.

The responsibility for making determinations concerning dress and grooming rests with the school principal or designee. Students who violate the school’s dress standards may receive or be asked to do any of the following, depending on the specific circumstances:

● Verbal warning ● Communication with parent ● Change into clothing that may be provided by the school, or ● Call a parent and have other clothing brought to school. ● Repeated violations of the dress standards may result in appropriate disciplinary action being taken. Parent requests for exceptions (for religious, health-related or other reasons) to dress code policies shall be submitted in writing to the school administration. Parents may appeal a building level administrator’s decision regarding dress code to the area assistant superintendent for instructional support or designee at district office, and such requests will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis. FOOD SERVICES Breakfast will be served starting at 8:15 a.m. Money may be added to each student’s lunch account by either parents or students before each school day or visit https://www.ezschoolpay.com/Login.aspx. If unable to do so, cash may be used to purchase a meal. Menus are available with listings for breakfast and lunch. Applications for free and reduced lunches will be available in the office. Parents may apply at any time during the year by completing the form and returning it to the school. For further information please contact District Office Food Service at 602-449- 2274. FOOD FOR CLASSROOM EVENTS In an effort to comply with the Maricopa County Department of Environmental Services, we request donors provide only food

items in the following forms: individually sealed drink containers, prepackaged foods, or bulk items prepared by a vendor like a grocery store or restaurant. If you have any questions, please contact the school office. HARASSMENT, BULLYING, HAZING, AND THREATS OF HARM

Quail Run is committed to providing all students and staff with a safe school environment in which all members of the school community are treated with respect. Accordingly, students have the right to be free from any form of harassment, bullying, intimidation, or threat of harm. Students have the right and responsibility to report harassment, bullying, intimidation, hazing, or threat experiences, and to have that report processed by a knowledgeable staff member. A confidential process for students and parents to report acts of bullying, intimidation, or harassment is provided through the school’s Silent Witness Program. Students found to be involved in these activities are subject to disciplinary consequences that may include warning, censure, suspension, or expulsion from school, depending on the severity of incidences and/or frequency of offenses. Counseling, mediation, community service, and other programs where the student takes responsibility for the action may be used as alternative consequences. HOMEWORK The Governing Board strongly believes that homework is a valuable learning activity. The purposes of homework are: ● Preparation – provides background for future lessons and units of study ● Practice – reinforces learning to help students master specific skills ● Extension – asks students to apply skills they have already met in a new situation ● Integration – requires students to apply many different skills to a large task, such as reports, projects and creative

writing Assignment of appropriate homework is encouraged. The Governing Board will support teachers holding students accountable for completing all homework assignments.

Communication between teachers and parents regarding homework is considered essential. Parents need to be advised of what is expected of their children and how they can reinforce the learning potential of the work assigned.

Homework should be seen as an opportunity to make mistakes and learn from those mistakes. As such, every assignment need not be used for evaluation purposes, but every assignment turned in to the teacher should be acknowledged with feedback, including, but not limited to, teacher comments, peer feedback and/or self-evaluation.

Make-Up Work It is the student’s responsibility to ensure all work is obtained and made up upon return from any absence. For a prolonged absence, the parent/guardians should request work to done at home. In order to provide time for teachers to prepare materials, request should be made to the teacher’s voicemail or a message left with the office secretary before 9:00 a.m. and picked up after 3:00 p.m.

Page 9: Parent/Student Handbook · 2019-06-26 · *If your child’s bike is stolen, it is the parent’s responsibility to call Crime Stop (602- 262-6151) to report the theft. BIRTHDAYS,

IMMUNIZATIONS

Arizona law requires documentary proof of immunity against certain childhood diseases for students entering Arizona schools for the first time. With some exceptions, students subject to this requirement who

lack documentary proof may enroll but not attend classes until proof is provided.

If your child is entering an Arizona school for the first time, please obtain from the school a detailed list of immunizations required.

LIBRARY Our library is very versatile. It contains a selection of non-fiction, fiction, and reference books. The media center is fully computerized with online capability. Ethical practice for using the web is fully described in district policy. Violations of ethical codes of conduct for technology use may result in restricted or suspended use of technology. Books can be checked out from the library as long as the student takes care of the book and returns it on the due date in good condition. Library books that are lost, stolen or destroyed must be paid for. LOST AND FOUND The school cannot assume responsibility for losses; however, if you report them immediately, every effort will be made to help locate lost articles. Our lost and found box is located in the multi-purpose room. The school secretary holds valuables. LUNCHROOM STANDARDS Lunchtime is an opportunity for students to interact appropriately with their peers. The following procedures have been established to insure that order may be maintained and yet allow students to communicate with those seated near each other. 1. Students will eat in the lunchroom unless approval is given and supervision provided by a staff member to eat in an

alternative location. 2. Students must sit at designated classroom tables. 3. Students may save a place for a friend as long as it does not disturb anyone. 4. Students will use good table manners, eat while seated, talk using quiet voices, and enter and exit the lunchroom in an

orderly manner. 5. Sharing food is PROHIBITED. 6. If a student does not have a lunch, a cheese sandwich may be provided according to food service guidelines.

Page 10: Parent/Student Handbook · 2019-06-26 · *If your child’s bike is stolen, it is the parent’s responsibility to call Crime Stop (602- 262-6151) to report the theft. BIRTHDAYS,

7. Uneaten food should be thrown away. (This is cafeteria trays per FDA requirements.)

8. Students will remain at their assigned tables until dismissed, and it is their responsibility to keep their area at the table and surrounding area clean.

9. Student’s not finished eating lunch before the next class arrives may be asked to move to an overflow table.

NURSE AND MEDICATION Our school nurse is on duty during regular school hours and can be reached at 602-449-4403. The nurse is prohibited by state law from dispensing medications at school without written permission from a parent. All medications, both over-the-counter and prescription medications must be brought to school in their original containers and be accompanied by a written permission note from a parent. The note must include time, dose and reason for medication to be given. Medications are to be administered by the nurse or a designee assigned by the principal. Dispensing medication to children by a school nurse is rigidly controlled by State Law. These requirements are made for the protection of all children. When students must take medication at school, either by a physician’s order (Prescription Medication) or by parent/guardian request (Non-Prescription Medication) the following steps will be required: ● The “Parent Request and Authorization for Medication to be Taken During School Hours” for must be completed by the

parent/guardian. ● All medication must be delivered to the nurse in the original prescription bottle or over the counter container. ● The prescription label must have the student’s name, prescription number, name of medication, dosage and the number

of times to be given. ● Non-prescription medications must also be in the original container with information from the parent/guardian as to the

date(s), time(s) and amount(s) to be given. ● If dosages should change while the child is on the medication; such changes need to be faxed to the nurse from the

doctor or a new prescription bottle provided with the changes listed prior to the new dose being administered. ● The dosage of a non-prescription medication must be within the manufacturer’s recommendation as printed on the label. ● Teachers only keep and administer medication on field trips.

**NO CHILD MAY CARRY MEDICINE TO ADMINISTER TO THEMSELVES State guidelines for schools prohibit the nurse from stocking any over-the counter medication. Parents must provide all over-the-counter medication along with written permission if they want their child to have them during the school day. PARENT CONCERN INVOLVING EMPLOYEE As partners, parents are expected to work with their child’s teacher(s) to solve all issues, problems, or concerns at the lowest level possible. Together, staff and parents should identify the problem, brainstorm solutions, and work to implement strategies in a professional manner. The school principal is available after lower level interventions have been attempted. If a parent is not satisfied with the outcome of a meeting with a teacher or staff member, parents may follow the Parent Concern

Page 11: Parent/Student Handbook · 2019-06-26 · *If your child’s bike is stolen, it is the parent’s responsibility to call Crime Stop (602- 262-6151) to report the theft. BIRTHDAYS,

Procedures in PVUSD Governing Board Policy 3.3.5. PARENT TEACHER ASSOCIATION (PTA) Our PTA is an active, vital part of Quail Run Elementary School. They organize and sponsor many of our family centered programs and activities. Quail Run PTA would warmly welcome your participation. For

more information please e-mail [email protected]. PETS/DOGS ON CAMPUS The safety of our students is our number one priority at Quail Run. Domestic animals, such as dogs, are unpredictable. It is difficult to tell what triggers an animal to react. In order to prevent an accident, please keep all dogs off campus. We also have many students that are allergic to domestic animals such as cats, bunnies, gerbils and their food products. In order to prevent an allergic reaction, please leave these animals at home. We appreciate your cooperation in keeping all animals off campus. PHYSICAL EDUCATION EXCUSES Physical education is required of all students. For a temporary physical education excuse of three consecutive days or less, a written parental excuse must be submitted to the nurse at the beginning of that physical education day. The note must specify the illness or injury. The nurse will complete the appropriate form for the student to give to the physical education teacher to excuse the child from participation in activities that day. If your child frequently needs a temporary excuse, please contact the physical education teacher and/or nurse. For long-term excuses of more than three days, the parent is required to obtain a written statement from the student’s physician describing the health problem and the length of time to be excused from active physical education participation. The note will be kept in the student’s health file and a copy sent to the physical education instructor. A second note will be required from the physician to allow the child to resume his/her normal activities. PROHIBITED ITEMS AT SCHOOL Non-school related items can be disruptive in the classroom and on the playground. Therefore the following items are prohibited at school: radios, *MP3 players, *iPods, *cell phones, *laptop computers, *any and all handheld devices, walkie-talkies, video games, skateboards, roller blades, roller shoes, heelies, scooters, trading cards, firecrackers, pop caps,

stink bombs, knives, candy, gum, hard balls, bats, toys, pagers, etc. The school assumes no liability for loss or damage to such items. If necessary the items will be confiscated by the administration or teacher and returned to the parent. Drugs and alcohol are not permitted on campus. The discipline policy regarding possession, use or sale of drugs and alcohol is strictly applied. Students who provide drugs and/or alcohol in the school are recommended for expulsion on the first offense. Students who are found in possession, or under the influence of drugs and/or alcohol on a first offense are suspended. A

second offense of use or possession will result in a motion for expulsion of the student. *These items may be carried to/from school, but may not be used during the school day, unless permitted by the teacher for a guided learning project.

PUPIL PROGRESS REPORTS Grades for students in kindergarten through grade six shall be issued approximately every nine weeks. In Art, Computers, Music, Spanish and PE, grades shall be issued at the close of each semester and conferences held with parent(s) as scheduled or as needed. Grades in grades 2-6 are consistently available online. SCHOOL BUS SERVICE Bus service will be provided for kindergarten students who live beyond 1⁄2 mile and first-fifth grade students who live beyond one mile from school. Buses will pickup/drop- off students at their designated stops. You, as a parent, are encouraged to be waiting for your child at the stop. This is particularly important for younger students during the first couple of weeks after your child begins school. This will help both your child and the driver to become familiar with the correct stop. Tell your child that if they are disoriented, scared, confused, etc. to let the driver know and to stay on the bus. Teach your child how to safely walk to/from the bus stop and remind them to respect private property at the bus stop. If a student is to ride a different bus or get off at a different stop, changes must be submitted in writing to the school office for prior approval. Remember that riding the school bus is a privilege and safety for all students is the highest priority. Conduct reports completed by the bus driver will be forwarded to the school principal for investigation and action. The principal may take action to remove the student from the bus. You may reach Transportation at 602-449-2251. SCHOOL BUS STANDARDS Observe same conduct as in the classroom. Be courteous; use no profane language. Do not eat or drink on the bus. No glass items allowed on bus. Keep the bus clean. Cooperate with the driver. Do not be destructive. Stay in your seat. Keep head, hands and feet inside the bus. No balloons or flower arrangements. Do not throw objects out the bus windows. SCHOOL COUNCIL

Page 13: Parent/Student Handbook · 2019-06-26 · *If your child’s bike is stolen, it is the parent’s responsibility to call Crime Stop (602- 262-6151) to report the theft. BIRTHDAYS,

The Governing Board of the Paradise Valley Unified School District believes that, in many areas of school administration, decisions are best made by those most closely involved or affected by the decisions. As a result, every school in the district has School Council. School Council members work together to provide input regarding decisions that are

implemented and effective for the site. The primary focus of Quail Run’s School Council is directed toward helping the students in general and the school and community as a whole. At Quail Run, the School Council is composed of two parents, two teachers, one community member, one classified employee, and the school principal. School council meetings are open to the public. Notices of meetings are posted in the office and published in the school newsletter. Minutes of the meetings are also available. STUDENT EDUCATION RECORDS – ANNUAL NOTIFICATION TO PARENTS The Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act of 1974 (FERPA) provides for a parent’s right to inspect, review and seek correction of a child’s educational records. Copies of this policy are on file in each school office and at the District Administrative Center. If you wish to review your child’s record, you may request the school principal to set up a convenient time for such a review. If your child is enrolled in a special education program, you should contact the Director of Special Education to arrange such a review. The district will comply with your request as soon as possible. If, when reviewing the records, you feel that the information on your child is inaccurate, misleading or otherwise in violation of the privacy rights of your child, you may request the deletion or modification of the records or enter into the records your own statements of clarification or explanation. Upon reaching the age of 18, a student has all of the legal rights and responsibilities previously given to a parent or legal guardian. Parents who claim a student 18 years or older as a dependent may still have access to all records. Student records may be released to authorized district personnel or another school that the student wishes to attend. Student records will be released to others only with the signed, written dated request of the person legally responsible for the student. Directory information will be gathered and issued for each student. This information includes, but is not limited to: student’s name, address, telephone number, date and place of birth; yearbook information such as major field of study, dates of attendance, school organizations and awards received; sports information such as height and weight. If there is personal information that you DO NOT wish to have included in directory information, the person legally responsible for the student must notify the district’s public relations officer in writing BEFORE September 10 of each school year. Send any correspondence to: Public Relations Officer, District Administrative Center, 15002 N. 32nd Street, Phoenix, Arizona 85032. The releasing of directory information to any agency with a profit motive is prohibited unless specific approval of the Governing Board is granted.

STUDENT PLACEMENT

Our staff makes recommendations to the Principal after careful thought, taking into consideration such factors as balance of boys and girls, heterogeneous grouping, balance in class size, and student academic and behavioral needs. We believe in creating a group dynamic that allows all children to exceed to their own potentials. Parents may provide the school principal with information that would aid in class placement. A formal letter or Parent Placement Form outlining your child’s needs, strengths, and/or learning style may be turned into the office by April 15th for consideration. Specific teacher requests are discouraged. If parents object to a class placement, the Principal will review written requests for reconsideration after a three-week trial period. The Principal may involve members of the Placement Review Committee in reviewing the placement, however, the Principal makes the final decision. TELEPHONE The school telephone is for business purposes and should not be used by students for personal arrangements. These arrangements should be made at home or the day before. Messages from home will be taken and given to students as needed and when appropriate. TEXTBOOKS/LIBRARY BOOKS All textbooks and library books are loaned to students free of charge. Your participation in the volunteer program means more individualized instruction can be given to each child. In addition it provides an enriching and rewarding experience for you the parent, grandparent, and/or guardian. Every volunteer who works for the Paradise Valley Unified School District must complete a Volunteer and/or Chaperone Application and Agreement before he/she begins work. (This includes parent volunteers.) Please request the Application from your teacher. All classroom volunteers and those using any workroom machines must attend a Volunteer Orientation. Please contact the office for dates and times. In accordance with our district policy, volunteers who do not have a child in the school where they will be working, MUST complete an application at Quail Run and be approved before beginning to volunteer. VOLUNTEER CODE OF CONDUCT Quail Run is indeed a fortunate school and community because we have so many actively involved parents and community members who are willing to assist teachers and learners in the educational process. We feel that one of the true strengths of Quail Run is its volunteer program. We seek volunteers and we know the positive impact the volunteers have on the program. Volunteers should always be professional in speech and actions and keep information learned at school to themselves. ● Information learned about the student in the classroom should remain confidential. ● Information learned about the parents of students in the classroom while in the process of volunteering should remain

confidential. ● Teaching styles vary and volunteer’s opinion of various teaching styles should remain confidential. ● Any information the volunteer comes across relating to a student’s performance or lack of performance, behavior, or

inability to control behavior should remain confidential. This document is not meant to prohibit volunteers from thinking and asking questions. If volunteers have questions about students or teaching styles, those questions are appropriately broached with the homeroom teacher involved or the principal. It would not be appropriate to ask questions or to share information with other parents or people outside the teaching staff or administration that do not have first hand knowledge of the school, its policies, programs, teachers and/or its students. To maintain an appropriate learning environment, we ask that cell phones be turned off or set to vibrate. If you find yourself needing to make a telephone call, please do so away from the learning environment. WITHDRAWALS It is necessary to come into the office to properly withdraw a student. At that time the parent will receive paperwork that is needed to register the child at his/her new school. Please notify the school at least one week prior to withdrawal.
